Impossible weight loss after gallbladder surgery

Cheekychop84 · 03/07/2019 14:20

Hi all.
I had my gallbladder removed nearly a year ago. At the time i was about 86 mg. Now i weigh almost 15 stone.
Has anyone else put on weight after gallbladder surgery? I thought id be losing it quite easily. I eat healthily and exercise everyday. I almost have almost constant heartburn so my appetite is weak due to that. Im also finding myself easily confused and distracted and just feel really weak all the time. Has anyone else experienced this?

You were 86mg?

That's some weight gain alright.

It can take a long time to recover from surgery on your stomach, are you mixing up nausea and hunger maybe? Can you go back and speak to the surgeon about it?

If you feel weak you may be short something, have you had your bloods taken recently?

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, i wasn't sure if it would be worth going to the doctor's and asking for bloods to be done. I eat little meals rather than over filling and nothing too fatty.
I had a follow up with the surgeon who said everything went well and i was healing well about 6 weeks after surgery

I know a few people who had that surgery and they all had lost weight before the gallbladder problems, then they got it taken out and found it hard to eat certain foods after the operation. I don't think any of them put on weight though.

Go and get some medical support if you are not right. Good luck.

So it's about 10kg weight gain, 1.5 stone. Is that right?

Aquamarine1029 · 03/07/2019 18:02

How old are you, op?

Mooey89 · 03/07/2019 18:04

Yup!
Since gallbladder removal almost impossible to lose weight. Comes off so so slowly even when I am eating really well and exercising. 4 years on for me!

Yep about 10 kg weight gain. Im 34. I hadn't lost any weight before surgery.
I was avoiding bad food because it made the symptoms worse and now with constant heartburn i still avoid rich fatty foods as they would make me sick.
Im eating heathily and even watching my calories and incresing activity have done nothing to help. It sounds silly but i am starting to feel depressed with it all. The heartburn Is really getting me down and occasionally im sick due to it building up. But i was worried id not be able to ask the doctor to test my bloods.
