Has anyone lost weight by going Gluten Free?

Recently diagnosed with coeliac disease so I obviously have to cut out the gluten.

I'm hoping this may be the thing that shifts my excess weight seeing as all my favourite foods contain gluten!

So has anyone lost weight cutting out gluten? Whether coeliac or not?

It massively depends on what kind of stuff you eat and what substitutes you make. If you join the coeliac groups on facebook you will see a very common complaint is people putting on weight on a coeliac diet.

A lot of processed gluten free stuff has lots of sugar and salt in it to make it taste better.

If you already cook from scratch a lot you probably won't notice much different.

Gluten free isn't generally 'healthier' in a dietary sense apart from people like you and others with coeliac disease where it's basically a poison.

What kind of stuff are you thinking you will have to miss out on?

I'm terrible for snacking... embarrassingly, one of my favourite things to eat is a bag (or 2!) of quavers in the evening.
They are not gluten free, so they will have to go.

What I'm thinking is, if I have to check the label to see if something is GF, it gives me more time to think about whether I actually need to eat.. rather than just mindlessly shoving something in my mouth. If that makes any sense.

I don't really have any intention of buying special GF foods... they're so expensive! I was considering going back to basics, eggs, meat, veg, potatoes.. I hadn't really considered that people may not lose the weight as they are just continuing to eat the same foods but GF
