Hi all.

I feel like I'm just ballooning.

I'm active. Average 12-15,000 steps a day. I walk a lot (power walk/hike) I would say I'm actually reasonably fit.

I diet and eat well especially in work. I use MFP and eat under 1200 calories most days.

I've just started the couch to 5k and I'm on week two.

I don't look huge (although I feel it) I wear size 8/10 jeans but I don't know why I'm gaining and gaining weight.

I've had my thyroid checked but I'm the heaviest I've ever been... what am I doing wrong?

When I got pregnant with my youngest DS (nearly 5) I was 8 stone 4 and after I was about 9 stone for three years. It's the last year and a half my weight is increasing and increasing.

Could it just be age? Or am I missing something.

I'm really trying and I'm noticing my clothes are starting to feel even more snug than ever I've not really had to lose weight before so I just don't know if I'm doing it all wrong and making it worse.

I'm a single working parent so can't gym in the evenings.
I have been doing the couch to 5k in local park with the children playing on the grass where I can see them.

Sorry I'm rambling. Any tips to get my body to do what I'm trying to get it to do?

Hi Snap, oh I so relate to the struggle of losing weight!
I was 13.7 stones after my youngest's birth last year and I am now slowly losing weight and currently at 10.5 stones.
I am also 5'4 and I am amazed that at 13 stones you are a size 8/10?.
I was a size 18 at that weight!
Anyway, have you been to the doctor to rule out anything medical as you are eating a low calorie diet and exercising loads so shouldn't be gaining?.

Prinlllu · 23/04/2019 14:42

My mistake, I read that as 13 stones Blush, sorry!
Ignore me Grin

churchthecat · 23/04/2019 14:44

I'm 5ft 3, 10st2 and a 12-14!

Where do you carry your weight OP? Do you have enormous boobs? I'd never get my arse into a size 10!

snapandfartaftermartialarts · 23/04/2019 17:12

This is the whole point !!
I don't look big really especially clothed.

So where is the sudden increase in weight coming from?

I'm definitely not pregnant. Unless i am the Virgin Mary.

I'll post pictures maybe if I can be brave enough.

Yes my breasts are large but my stomach is rapidly getting flabby too.

I am a lot heavier than I look and all my clothes are getting too small but now I'm actively trying I'm only getting bigger Blush

PS thanks for being kind. I went to my local WW with a friend and got completely shamed. I know it's not huge in the grand scheme but it is really bothering me.

Also my weight and stomach increases throughout the day I end up larger throughout the afternoon and then I'm bloated and balloon like all evening x

Yes. I'm currently seeing dr and asked for my thyroid testing and I have really enlarged lymph nodes in my right neck and collar bone for some unknown reason. No infections in blood. No thyroid issues. Nothing to explain the constant weight gain and expanding stomach. X

I'm having this problem at 5'1 and 10 stone 9. I cannot get the weight off and most days, I don't eat anywhere near my supposed TDEE. And I don't drink alcohol at all or eat bread/grain products on alternate days.

I wonder whether it's a consequence of consecutive pregnancies, plus age and sleep disruption. But what's interesting is that both my DH and DM are having the same problem. My DM's weight has crept up two stone, and DH is finding it hard to lose despite regular training.

And we eat very healthy. I prepare most meals from scratch and we rarely eat grains, potatoes or rice.

I really don't know what to do.

Prinlllu · 24/04/2019 00:34

If you have enlarged lymph nodes in your neck, has sarcoidosis been ruled out?

ppeatfruit · 24/04/2019 08:59

Have a look at your intake of coconut products, houmous, avocadoes ( i put on immediately I LOOK at an avo nowadays!)

Also if you drink a lot of coffee and teas, cut them down, drink water and or herbal teas instead (keep drinking ,not alcohol though) Your stomach will shrink in no time.

I could have written your post OP. I've been the same weight pretty much since I was 17 (around 60-63kg) but in the last 6 months have started ballooning to 66kg+. I'm active and do an average of 14k steps a day and run 4km three times a week (and have done for a decade). Not eating more than usual but clothes and pants feel tight and I feel gross. Digestion is a bit sluggish - despite a veggie diet and lots of probiotics... am 43. Is this the middle aged spread? Confused

ppeatfruit · 24/04/2019 09:27

Yes it is dogrilla (sorry emoticom) ! it happened to me and I started eating differently, not eating fruit after a meal. Just eating it on an empty stomach. I have a homemade smoothie for breakfast. Cutting right down on caffiene. That worked well.

dogrilla · 24/04/2019 09:31

Thanks ppeatfruit** do you think cutting down on caffeine makes a difference?

ppeatfruit · 24/04/2019 09:46

Yes esp. if you like it strong and all day! I got a headache when I did it I was only drinking one freshly ground coffee a day Grin (it's best to do it over a weekend when you don't have to rush anywhere). But it did get the weight moving in the right way! The odd thing is when I have one now every week or so It speeds my metabolic rate but not every day strangely. Oh and the fruit thing.

Siameasy · 24/04/2019 11:32

I’m the same height as you. You aren’t that big but yes I hate being over 10st so I know how uncomfortable it feels. I was 11.7 last summer despite exercising every day but like you I looked ok in clothes it was all stomach. Ugh.
I am on the Low Carb Bootcamp on here and have lost almost two stone. If you’re interested in that - all the bloating foods are eliminated and there is no calorie counting.
Building muscle has really helped me - as you don’t go to the gym you could still do body weight exercises at home (altho lifting heavy is best)
I have had to completely stop eating all grains, soft drinks, fruit juices and potatoes (😭) and cut back on fruit and milk as they are all bloating.

snapandfartaftermartialarts · 24/04/2019 19:04

I have stopped drinking as I was drinking quite a hot December time having friends round to mine as I have the kids watching films drinking wine but started getting bad anxiety so I replaced it with cups of tea. Maybe caffeine is a factor.
I just seem to get bigger throughout the day.
I've noticed my legs are bigger now too.

Perhaps I should get back on the gin instead 😂

I don't really want to buy new clothes for the summer but none of mine fit me as I feel like acceptance is a slippy slope but whilst I'm still wearing my size 8 (stretchier topshop ones) or 10 jeans they are getting a bit snug and I'm not wearing fitted tops anymore.

I don't know it's hard to tell people you're feeling unhappy with weight when not really massive it's just been frustrating as I've never really dieted or worked out and now I am and it's getting worse.

Thanks for all your input I really appreciate it.

I am going to browse the groups and join a couple.

Do you have progress photos? You could be losing fat still, but gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat hence the weight gain? Progress photos are far more beneficial in the long-term than weighing alone for this reason

If thats not the reason then I'm really baffled! Hope you find the solution soon OP

MrsFDJR · 30/04/2019 01:52

You are eating too few calories. 1200 calories a day is far too low for any adult female. MFP always recommends 1200 and that’s not even enough calories to allow normal human function. Up your calories by 200-300 and I think you will see a change.

Decormad38 · 30/04/2019 02:13

You are exactly the same height and weight as me. I’m trying desperately to lose it too. It’s probably fat laid down around organs. The 5:2 shifted weight last year but I’m struggling to get started again.
