She sounds as if she's being very brave, bless her.

I have a little problem. Dh is away and there is a 2 litre tub of cherry ice-cream in the freezer ...

JackieNo · 17/07/2007 22:28

Ooh - dangerous. Could you just go to bed? Brush your teeth? Talk to me? (no letter yet, by the way, but I'm at home with her tomorrow am, so will keep an eye out for it)

WigWamBam · 17/07/2007 22:41

I ate the ice-cream.

Well, some of it anyway - I was actually incredibly good and didn't scoff the lot straight from the tub!

How annoying about the letter; the other one I posted at the same time arrived OK, and that wouldn't have mattered if it was late. Hopefully she'll get it tomorrow.

JackieNo · 17/07/2007 22:47

Well done you - eating it straight from the tub is the slippery slope, isn't it. One minute you've got a full tub, the next it's a case of 'might just as well finish it off and buy a new one'.

No worries on the letter - I didn't tell her it was on its way.

WigWamBam · 17/07/2007 22:51

Ah ... you've been there before as well then

I'm actually feeling pretty proud that I didn't pig the lot straight from the tub; maybe I'm getting better at controlling my eating.

She won't be able to miss the letter; it's in a bright yellow envelope. I hope it hasn't got lost in the post; dd worked so hard on it and was so proud that she'd done it all herself. She won't be impressed if she has to write it all again!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 17/07/2007 22:54

Oh yes. All too often. And you definitely deserve a gold star for not eating the lot.

(I was going to do a halo, but when I googled, all that came up was pics from the computer game, which, incidentally, is what DH is playing in the next room).

WigWamBam · 17/07/2007 23:10

Mmm, not sure I deserve a halo but the gold star is making me puff my chest up with pride.

Although maybe puffing my chest up isn't such a good idea ... could have someone's eye out.

Dh has just got to his hotel and rang me to make sure I hadn't eaten all the ice-cream ... I think he knows me too well

. Is he away for long? Mine's off on Friday for 9 days.

DD's letter arrived this morning - thank you (and your DD, obviously) - she's really chuffed with it. Already planning what to say in her next letter, and wants to get DH to do some pictures for her to put in with it. I'm very impressed with how long the letter was - she obviously has a bit more sticking power than DD, who has the attention span of a gnat. When your DD said your cat was a wuss, DD looked doubtfully at the photo of her with the penguin and said 'So is that a wuss?', obviously thinking it was a particular type of cat.

Kewcumber · 18/07/2007 10:09

just a quick post to crow about how good I've been. Actually thats not technically correct. Just a quick post to crow about how I haven't been appallingly-eating-uncontrollably-non-stop-all-week.

I don;t buy cheery ice cream for the cole reason that it tastes so much better straight for the tub in very large quantities. Low-fat vanilla only in the house this week.

Not a magnum nor a cake have passed my lips...

Kewcumber · 18/07/2007 10:10

lol at the wuss cat

JackieNo · 18/07/2007 10:44

Well done you too, Kew - another gold star for you too.

WigWamBam · 18/07/2007 10:47

How is the pox today, Jackie?

at wondering whether the penguin was a wuss ... The cat is actually completely neurotic, but dd can't spell that

Not sure about the sticking power ... it was written over a couple of days because she also has the attention span of a gnat. But she always has lots to say (boy, does she ever have lots to say ...)!

She wants to get some new photos done to send - she was quite disgusted that we don't have any of her wearing her glasses. But I think I've convinced her that we don't need to post photographs with every letter.

Buying the cherry ice-cream was probably a mistake but sometimes a bit of what you fancy does you good. But you're right; it does taste so much better straight from the tub. The low-fat stuff tastes like wallpaper paste most of the time ...

Hi WWB - definitely on the mend, thanks. Though she still looks dreadful, they're all scabbing over nicely, but are all the more noticeable for it. Definitely more herself. I did suggest we take a photo of her with all her chicken pox spots and she was horrified at the thought, so probably won't do that. Well, not while she's looking anyway.

WigWamBam · 18/07/2007 10:56

I think dd would have smashed the camera if we'd tried taking photos of her with her spots! Although she was oddly proud of the amount she had ... strange child.

They do look worse once they start to scab over; and what amazed me was how long some of the marks last. Dd had hers over Christmas, and still has some marks left from some of the bigger spots.

MrsJohnCusack · 18/07/2007 10:56

hello mofos
still the House of Sick here, but it seems that we're all better now except DS who is teething - grrr. And DH is in my bad books for various waking up offences in the night (Both me and DS). I seem to have spent most of today crying, it's just all been too much, just general post natal/crying baby misery. I suspect there may be a weight gain this week from me as well.

sorry DD is ill Jackie. I am now beginning to realise how awful it is when they're sick - we have been so lucky with DD so far, but I think she's well and truly caught up over the last few weeks

FS, my friend here had a stomach bypass op on Monday. She was told the risk was 1 in 10o . But she has come through it OK so far, I hope this continues. She had it done via laparoscopy so physical recovery should be quicker. Good luck with your surgery, I think it is an immensely brave thing to do

MrsJohnCusack · 18/07/2007 10:58

1 in 100 even
and i loved the wussy cat

JackieNo · 18/07/2007 10:59

Hi MrsJC - to hear you're all still having a tough time. Virtual hugs wending their way over the ocean to you. I think I'll be joining you in (another) weight gain this week.

WigWamBam · 18/07/2007 11:00

Oh, MrsJC - sorry things are so crap today.

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 18/07/2007 11:12

oh it's not too bad really
just screeching babies and not enough sleep and it's cold and I just feel depressed at the moment.
think I will risk going to bed and hope to get some serious zzzzzzzs in tonight.

thanks for the kind words

JackieNo · 18/07/2007 11:13

The not sleeping's dreadful. DD slept through last night for the first time in a week and a half - hope your lot let you do the same.

ForcesSweetheart · 18/07/2007 14:50

Hope your friend recovers well MrsJC. I think the stats for risk change depending on where you read them. 1 in 100 is quite shocking though! All the more reason why I want the band rather than the bypass!

There's quite a good website for Weight Loss Surgery support in case your friend is interested. It's fathappens.com. It's been set up as "Anne Diamond's weight loss buddies", but really I think it's more just a forum for anyone who has had or is considering WLS, I've found the members really friendly and helpful. There are members who work in the field who are very good at answering questions etc.

Am totally with you all on the ice-cream straight from the tub thing. I find it very hard to put an unfinished tub back in the freezer. Doesn't help that Ben & Jerrys is half price at tesco atm! I have 3 tubs in the freezer (there were 4 a week ago!). One problem with knowing I may get the surgery soon is that I find myself using it to justify giving in to things. I think, once I've had the surgery I won't be able to eat this, so I better make the most of it now!

TigerFeet · 19/07/2007 12:18

Morning all

A gain for me this week (unsurprisingly) 2lbs on so back to 16st.

Hey ho, another week and a fresh new start...

MrsJC sounds like you're having a rough time of it atm, hope you are sleeping soundly whilst those of us in the UK are busy working, and you wake up feeling refreshed.

Glad to hear dd is over the worst JackieNo

FS, it is a brave thing you are doing and I really admire you for going ahead... i totally get the "well I might as well while I still can" idea.

agalch · 19/07/2007 13:44

Hi all

Things can only get better Mrs JC(surely to goodness) xxx

lost a pound this week.Went early to class to get weighed as i wanted it over and done with, wasn't sure that i wouldn't have put on again.

Never had the chicken pox myself but ds1 had it twice, not too bad the first time but was awful 2nd time round.Ds2 not had and dd1 had it really badly.Dreading dd2 getting it.

Better go get my girls organised. Have a good day xx

Kewcumber · 19/07/2007 14:03

Well I've stayed the same this week and hoped I might lose. But I has PMS and weighed on a differnt Boots scales so it could be hiding a pound.

Feel much better though having soldiered on all week. Had the odd bacon sadnwich and the odd large (enormous) meal but actually have been surpringly better compared to recent weeks.

Hopefully will catch up with some weight loss next week.

TigerFeet · 19/07/2007 15:17

It'll be water retention Kewc

Big loss expected next week then!
