But well done for just knuckling down and doing it - even if it is a bit of a chastening experience.

Kewcumber · 13/07/2007 22:09

well otherwise I was going to have put back on all three stone . The rot has to stop somewhere - if I can even keep my weight stable for a week or two that will be a good start, then need to work out how to eat healthily again, has all gone to pot a bit since I went back to work.

JackieNo · 14/07/2007 19:12

It's really difficult combining the two, isn't it. We struggle. Especially with the whole five-a-day thing. Some weekends we seem to eat nothing but carbs.

And the verdict on the Children's Food Festival? It was great (it's on on Sunday as well as today). DD made pasta, and they both 'made' some bread (ie, there was some dough nearly ready, and they rolled it about a bit, then put it into a mini bread loaf tin, which was baked for 10 minutes and then you could collect them). I did have an ice cream, plus half a fruit smoothie (not the milky kind). But did loads of walking.

Kewcumber · 14/07/2007 20:00

Doesn't sound too bad Jackie. I have got into the terrible habit of buying two (smallish) pizzas from Tesco and eating them fordinner oevr two evenings (ie the whole pizza in a sitting, though it isn;t ginormous, is deffo supposed to be a two person portion) with a small tub of coleslaw. It's so cheap (£4 for two) and so easy (10 mins in the overn and done no prep) and have been ignring the calories. Look at them last week [fainting emoticon]. Didn't buy any this week.
I'm hoping that at least changing small things like that will help me feel more in control this week and not buying a cake for lunch every day.

JackieNo · 14/07/2007 21:36

Yes - it's finding the balance between speed/ease and healthiness or at least not too many calories. What sort of stuff is your DS eating these days? I do find that I'm happy to eat fairly bland food, no sauces, plain veg, grilled meat, when I cook them for the DCs, though that tends to be in the week. It's snacks that get me - that feeling that I have to reward myself for getting through the morning, and then the afternoon, and then the evening etc, etc.

Kewcumber · 14/07/2007 21:49

he'll eat anything Jackie but I only feed him Fri- Sunday in the evening as he has tea at Cm before I pick him up so no escape. I do try to cook for me and keep him something but it doesn;t always work like that.

Hi all

Been offline for ages as pc died so back at last on our new one.
Lost 2lbs this week so hopefully on track again.

Haven't read all the posts yet, will catch up and post again later.

ForcesSweetheart · 15/07/2007 11:28

Hi everyone
So sorry I haven't been around. Went on holiday for about 3 weeks then just couldn't get back into it after I got home. DH still away, 10 weeks down, 6 more to go til his 12 day break at home.

GP has now referred me for bariatric surgery on nhs. Have found out it's only a 3-6 month wait depending on the hospital they send me to (could be one of 2) so I'm hopeful I can have it done by Christmas.

Will try and get a chance to catch up on the threads to see how you're all doing over the next few days.

L x

JackieNo · 15/07/2007 12:54

Hi ForcesSweetheart and agalch - good to see you both again.

ForcesSweetheart - sounds like positive news, though I'm rather to admit that I don't know what bariatric surgery is Ah - I see - do you know what sort of op they'd go for, or would this be decided at the appointment?

ForcesSweetheart · 15/07/2007 13:03

Hiya Jackie. I think that'll be decided in discussion with the surgeon (just waiting for my appointment now), but my preference would be for the gastric band, rather than the bypass for several reasons. I've read that the mortality rate with the bypass is approx 1 in 200, it's 1 in 2000 with the bypass. With the bypass there's a risk of not getting enough of certain nutrients because of the way the intestine is shortened, since I'm hoping to get pregnant afterwards I think the risks of malnourishment of the foetus with the band would be far less (the band can be deflated as soon as you find out you're pregnant). Also the recovery time from the band is much shorter, and it's more likely they can do the band by keyhole. I've read that although weight loss is much quicker with the bypass initially, over a 4 year period they tend to have evened out, and the band shows an average 60% improvement in type 2 diabetes in the first 6 months (although with the bypass the improvement is more pronounced and quicker).

WigWamBam · 15/07/2007 13:03

What kind of surgery do you think you'll opt for, FS? MTPW sometimes pops in here; she's waiting for surgery too.

LOL hi WWB, see below!

WigWamBam · 15/07/2007 13:20

Yes, I know - cross posts! I was just too lazy to make another post to say so though

OP posts:
JackieNo · 15/07/2007 14:25

Meant to say - DD has (predictably) now come down with the chicken pox. So it's another week of boxing and coxing at work with DH (who's off to the US on Friday), and a few more broken nights - she's had dreadful insomnia the last few nights, plus tummy ache poor thing. She's got loads of spots on her neck and face, much more than DS. Haven't had a good look at the rest of her, as she's still in her all-in-one pyjamas (Boden, but ancient and about 5th hand, and handed on to us by friends), so a bit difficult to see.

WigWamBam · 15/07/2007 15:27

Oh no - poor dd!

And poor you ... it's awful when they're ill.

Hope she feels better soon.

JackieNo · 15/07/2007 15:51

Thanks WWB - I hope so too. She's very annoyed about missing swimming (both at school, and her other lessons) and her sports day. Unlike me, she loves sports. Long may it continue. That's one of the things I really envy about children - the ability to just do stuff, and make their bodies do what they want so easily.

Kewcumber · 16/07/2007 09:56

poor DD - hope she feels better soon Jackie

katybump · 16/07/2007 10:05

Hope your dd feels better soon Jackie.Chicken pox is awful

TigerFeet · 16/07/2007 12:08

oh no, not more pox

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your bepoxed lot Jackie No

JackieNo · 16/07/2007 16:38

Thanks all. DH has been on pox duty today, and she's been a bit happier, though the spots are looking worse.

WigWamBam · 16/07/2007 20:31

Glad she's feeling a bit happier.

Get her to watch the letter box tomorrow; dd posted her letter today (I don't think she needs a translation ...)

OP posts:
JackieNo · 16/07/2007 20:40

Excellent - that'll cheer her up. Thank you in advance.

katybump · 17/07/2007 17:47

Hqs your dd Jackieno?

JackieNo · 17/07/2007 17:49

Hi katybump. She's blistery now, and very, very spotty on her face and neck. But increasingly cheerful, thank goodness, though they do hurt if she knocks them. I was on pox duty this pm, and will be tomorrow am.

katybump · 17/07/2007 17:56

Poor thing lets hope she's better soon and you get a break.Theres nothing worse than looking after poorly children, when they hurt and you can't do anything for them.
