Mrs M - thanks for your useful and inspirational list of things you enjoyed about losing weight! Particularly fond of the bit about not seeing the shock in people's faces when they saw you were a bit chubby. For me, I am sick of being told I look "well". To me this translates as "you've put on weight love, and I can't think of anything nice to say". I have to say I feel like the "Before" picture from a makeover most days.

Re exercise - seems like the evenings and weekends are pretty much the only time you have spare at the mo. Any chance of taking up running a couple of evenings a week? Probably the most effective use of time/resources, just difficult to motivate bum off sofa in the evenings. Also contemplating bike rides at weekends, again pretty effective use of time/energy.

mrsmalaprop · 19/07/2007 10:22

Thanks MLB. Yes it does seem that the evenings are the only time I have, but you know how difficult that can be when you're totally knackered. I will try to do that for now, but I start teacher training in September, and the course is so intense that I really won't get a spare minute.

I am often told I look 'well' too. Makes you want to scream. (although it's at least better than my Grandad, who said 'Oh my God! What have you been eating?!)

Another great thing about losing weight - your choice of clothes to wear broadens so much when you're not having to dress to hide flabby arms, big bums, big bellies...etc. That is really refreshing.

Ceebee74 · 19/07/2007 12:24

Exercise - I am a complete gym addict and have really struggled since having DS a year ago in that I can't go as often as I used to or want to. I go to the gym every Saturday and most Sundays - and then if DH is working from home on a Monday and Tuesday (when I don't work) I also go in the mornings on those days (DS has a long sleep in the mornings so DH can work whilst babysitting).

So on a good week I go 4 times a week but it is, on average, more like twice which is nowhere near enough for me.

I have also thought about exercise DVD's and I do have some good ones already but (and this is really going to sound like an excuse) - our lounge floor is constantly covered in DS's toys and I can't be bothered to pick them up to do the video - that does sound really bad doesn't it - I really need to get myself motivated as I do like exercising and how it makes you feel.

Anyway, how is everyone doing today?

Great comment from Grandad! Relatives just say the best things!

Keep thinking Sept is miles away, and of course it isn't. Good luck with the teacher training, and yes, I can see that you won't have any spare time at all.

Just read my last message and would like to rephrase it - I meant that I was contemplating cycling at weekends, not that you should, really not trying to give you instructions at all. I figured that I really would find it difficult to do anything in the evenings, other than maybe walk the dogs if needed. But I remember two summers ago, I was cycling 40 miles in a day and not keeling over afterwards, so thought I might try again. however, this would mean cycling by myself as DH would be doing the childcare bit....very sad and lonely!

mylastrolo · 19/07/2007 13:15

I'm not doing so good my d/h just got letter from him saying wrong things to a women who is a stone over weight. tell you it is well he is away as i could swing for him.

My big thing is wine and sweetie stuff i eat healthy stuff too period is due just want to scream!!!!!!!!!

beam me up scottie and make me slimmer

mylastrolo · 19/07/2007 15:02

am going to send him men are from mars women are from venus book a little light reading before he comes home i really am!!!

mousemole · 19/07/2007 15:57

oh god dieting is so boring isnt it. Weigh in tomorrow at weight watchers and dreading it. Have been very good but dont 'feel' thinner ! Trying to remember how quickly time flies and how nice it will be to be slim for the winter and xmas.
Is it weightwatchers that say 'nothing tastes as good as thin feels ' ?!

lillypie · 19/07/2007 22:09

I did really well yesterday and then dp came home with a bar of chocolate for me!!Of course I ate it and then felt like shit.
Today has been better, haven't eaten any crap and been for a long walk.
I also had a huge incentive today,my sister sent me a picture of herself looking slim and gorgeous. The last time i saw her (last year)she was 5 stone over weight. My competitive juices are flowing.I'm off to the gym tomorrow!
Oh,and I've told dp not to buy me any more chocolate.

mylastrolo · 19/07/2007 22:41

did someone mention chocolate well best get rid and then no more will darken my door or mouth more like

mousemole · 20/07/2007 10:40

well it was the big weigh in today at WW and lost 3lbs. Was a bit gutted as home scales showed a loss of 4lbs but it is all in the right direction. 23lbs to go !
Giving myself a few treats today, feel like I deserve and back on the wagon tomorrow !

MadLabOwner · 20/07/2007 10:54

Lilliepie - great incentive for you that your sister is looking good! Am sure is very shallow and not the best thing in the world, but sibling rivalry works for me every time when trying to lose weight! Are you going to stick the picture on your fridge and kitchen cupboards?

Mousemole - congrats on the 3 lb loss, not to worry about the extra pound - am sure it will add to next weeks total loss instead.

mousemole · 20/07/2007 12:30

Madlabowner -1/2lb is great - all in the right direction !Lilliepie, sibling rivalry is a great motivator isn't it. My sister has just been to Thailand on a detox and looking very thin so that has spurred me on ! Come on girls, we can do it !

lillypie · 21/07/2007 12:04

Hi ladies, how's everyone doing?I'm feeling happy and motivated, had two good days.No cheating and I've been to the gym,TWICE!!
Come on girls we CAN do it.
KEEP IT UP 2 3 4

zookeeper · 21/07/2007 17:14

Hi everyone - got Davina wotsit's DVD today so as you are sitting on your sofas tonight think of aa 14 stone plus of me puffing away.

Guitargirl · 21/07/2007 18:02

Hello, can I join you too please? I don't actually know how overweight I am but I know it's AT LEAST 3 stone....

Most of it (but not all!) is baby weight but DD is 6 months now, am going back to work in September, am still in maternity clothes and am sick of feeling yucky all the time.

Have just reserved some scales from Argos, will go and pick them up tomorrow, then the moment of truth will dawn and I shall no longer have any excuse...

Ceebee74 · 21/07/2007 18:59

Welcome Guitargirl - hope the weigh-in isn't too traumatic for you. You sound like me 6 months ago - I had to go and buy a whole new wardrobe for work cos nothing fitted (and to my shame, I am still in those clothes despite them only being a temporary measure )

Zoo - I am imagining you now - have also got that DVD but never actually watched it so you will have to let me know what it is like.

Good day for me - went to an exercise class today which is VERY high impact aerobics - certainly the hardest class I go to - but I absolutely love it - it is my Saturday treat (I used to go 4 times a week to these classes and now it is 2 at the most). One of the teachers had a baby a month before me and she has absolutely no fat on her whatsoever - puts me to shame anyway! Great motivation though.

Have good evenings all

hi everyone, hope you are all doing well. I started off the week been very good, eating healthy meals cutting my portions down

BUT... this weekend I have eaten too much, had chocolate so annoyed with myself
I probably haven't lost anything now, all that hard work for nothing!

oh well back on the wagon now, had bran flakes and coffee for breakfast. having a vegetable stir fry with noodles tonight.

MadLabOwner · 23/07/2007 09:10

Did brilliantly last week, lots and lots of walking, sticking to WW point allowance etc....then it all went pear shaped at the weekend, too much treacle tart with custard whilst reading Harry Potter.

As a result, weight the same as last week, 13 9lb. Am very cross with myself, and spent the first hours of today metaphorically beating myself up over this. Then went for a walk (getting some fresh air before the rain sets in again - have you seen the forecast!) and have resolved to get over last week and start afresh this week. Have set some minigoals for myself this week, which I'll write down here to add yet more motivation to the heap

  1. Get out bike and use at least twice in evenings/weekends. (Not used bike for at least 18 months)

  2. Find and do at least one of the exercise DVDs I'm sure I have somewhere. Doesn't matter if it is the thai chi one or the boxercise one, aim is to actually have a go.

  3. Declutter the house - take at least 2 bags to charity shop this week, and recycle mountain of papers and bottles - reclaim the utility room as my own!

Any other ideas?

Hope everyone else had a better start to the week today, and have lost lots of weight!

zookeeper · 23/07/2007 11:14

same here - disastrous weekend foodwise - after a good week - weigh in tomorrow

I do seem to eat less when I drink loads of water so if I do nothing else this week it is to remember that

Ceebee74 · 23/07/2007 11:21

Had a good week and managed to stick (roughly!) to my WW points (I tend to estimate how many points are in food so not always accurate) but lost......3lb! So now 14 stone and 1lb so target for next week is to get UNDER 14stone so at least 2lb loss.

Been to a spinning class this morning and my legs are now hurting!

Ladies - staying the same is better then putting on. Good luck for this week

lillypie · 23/07/2007 12:50

Hi ladies hope you all had a sin free weekend .
Yesterday was good, only healthy eating and a lovely long walk in the country pushing the buggy.
Everything going to plan so far today and off to the gym tonight.
Best of luck to those of you weighing in today.

mousemole · 23/07/2007 19:57

well done everyone. Its hard to be motivated with this awful weather. Just want to curl up with big bar of choccie and magazine.
Madlabowner - I am 13.9 as well, after 3lb weight loss at WW last week. Want to be 13.6 this Friday when I weigh in but today was only so so. Going to go swimming tomorrow and try to do more exercise.
