Hi, so I’ve recebtly lost a stone taking me from 10.6 to 9.6 at 5’4. This puts me at a BMI of 22.8 so right in the middle of healthy bmi. I’m now a comfortable size 10.

I have narrow hips but it’s this waist to hip ratio that’s worrying me from a health perspective as this is where I hold weight.
My waist is measuring now at 27 inches and my hips at 31.5. According to calculators this puts me at moderate risk!
Does this theory hold true if you naturally have narrow hips or do I need to accept to be healthier I need to be very slim to keep my waist measurement down as this is where I hold my weight?

Wherebouts are you measuring your hips? I’m 5’4 and 9st 4 and am quite muscular and straight up and down - an athletic build. I would describe myself as having slim hips, but mine are 36.5 inches compared to a 26.5 inch waist. I measure my hips as around the widest part of my bum, so below my pelvic bones. If I measured around the top of my pelvic bone it would probably be a measurement similar to yours. Of course, I may have been measuring wrong all this time, but I think you’ll find you have no cause for concern!

Ps - congrats on the weight loss!

Yes same comment - where are you measuring your hips? I am 5'3 (and a half!) and 9st 7, also a comfortable 10, and my hips are 38", waist 28". I don't have slim hips though, I'm an hourglass.

You need to measure around the widest part of your bottom.

To be in the healthy range, your waist measurement should be less than half your height, OP. In your case, a waist of less than 32 ins is fine. Stop fretting and be proud of your weight loss!

I’ve just remeasured and right round my bum it comes in at 32.5 so may have been putting the tape a little high before but still not much difference. Think I’m just narrow at the hips! Thanks guys that’s made me feel better. X
