What do you do in the evenings, to not mindlessly eat all the time

I need to lose weight, and I've basically decided I need to stop snacking and drinking fizzy drinks. But I realised I snack all the time! The DCs are in bed and my first thought is what should I eat now...

So what do you do instead? My evenings are very unproductive as youngest doesn't usually go to sleep on time, so I've got in the habit on not doing much and eating loads. I need inspiration to do the opposite, do loads and not eat much, but I don't even know what to actually do that won't wake the DCs up, especially the youngest.

Fuck around on the internet, watch telly.

Are yiu really eating that much?

Lovelydovey · 21/11/2018 07:29

I clean my teeth when the children go to bed. Stops me eating anything else that evening as I am too lazy to clean my teeth again....

Booksandpens · 21/11/2018 08:21

Yes, I really am eating that much. I probably eat a packet of biscuits a day and some chocolate on top, plus drink more Coca Cola than water... Blush
I know what I'm doing wrong, I just don't seem to be able to get out of the habit. Although I made a conscious effort the last few days, but I never last long.

Don’t have anything you don’t want to eat in the house at all.

flintfoxy · 21/11/2018 08:27

Don't beat yourself up OP I'm struggling to lose weight and need to shift a good 2 stone - I've my own bad habits (wine and butter and carbs I'm looking at you) - I wish I had a will of iron but exercise really would help. I feel so much better MH wise when I'm doing regular exercise

I have the same problem but I when I'm busy too. After I get home from work and put dd to bed, I have a couple of hours which I spend doing house work or doing work. All of this is in close proximity to the kitchen and I get too tempted.

bluejelly · 21/11/2018 08:30

You absolutely can't have Coca-Cola or biscuits in the house. If they're not there you can't eat/drink them. Stop buying them.

bluejelly · 21/11/2018 08:31

(And in case that sounded too headmistressy - best of luck to you on your weight loss journey OP. I'm 2 stone o/w and also struggling!)

I knit and game - sedentary but keeps me busy so I'm not thinking about food.
I'm supposed to exercise during both Corries (rowing machine or X-trainer) but whilst the spirit is willing, the body notsomuch

I do Rosetta Stone (French) on my laptop so by the time I've got it all sorted with headphones plugged in and near a socket, then booted it up etc it's too much effort to move and get food

I watch telly and avoid the cooking programmes.

GooodMythicalMorning · 21/11/2018 09:34

Hula hooping with weighted hoop.

Only eat sat at the kitchen table with a plate. It cuts down all the mindless tv snacking because you have to focus on what you’re putting in your mouth.

Don’t buy biscuits, chocolate and coke if those are your trigger items. I like savoury stuff. I bought crisps last week and enjoyed them as part of my lunch. Before that I think we bought crisps when we were on holiday in June. If they aren’t in the house I can’t eat them. I buy nuts, cheese and bread more often but with a plan so I can’t just eat them because I need the cheese for lunchtime sandwiches and to top a lasagna, etc. You get the idea.

Exercise on YouTube (free and loads of different types). Clean teeth after dinner. Drink loads of water/mint tea. And yes to hobbies! Knitting, sewing, whatever. Good luck.
