My weight thankfully hasn’t been a problem until last year. I went through a very stressful time and lost quite a bit of weight. It then piled back on and more in December. Since then Iv tried losing it and I can’t. I’m currently half a stone more then I was before last year and I can’t shift it. I actively went on a ‘diet’ and today is 20 days .... I lost 2lb by weighing myself today Iv put thre 2lb back on!!!! Iv been eating healthy, vegetarian and cook meals at home, no takeaways no snacks or if they were it was carrot and hoummous or an apple. No alcohol (don’t reallg drink anywAy) and about 1200 calories a day max but today as Iv put it back on I don’t understand?! I’m not period and don’t have periods so I can’t blame that. I never had to watch what I ate or weighed until this happened. I’m 5 foot 2 so this half a stone is having a big affect on me as my clothes don’t fit and it’s all sitting on my hips and stomach and I feel fat. Any ideas?

Have you tried changing your diet abit to eat more protein and less carbs & fats? Eating lean protein and maybe doing some body weight exercises at home such as press ups, pull ups etc could help build lean muscle to burn fat? Or trying herbal teas? I have a thermal herbal tea twice a day on Herbalife which helps speed up my metabolism.

I have fibro too so I do understand.
I'm 55 and 3 years ago weighed 12 1/2 stone, and size 14/16. I'm 5'3".
I got my act together and I'm now hovering between 9st 2 and 9st4 size 8/10.
I cut chocolate/sweets and junk food, loosely follow LCHF, did short HIIT routines and walk a lot.
Have a look at the boot camp threads on here, so much info.
I'm not often hungry, don't count calories or weigh or measure portions.
It's true about the muscle burning fat and speeding your metabolism, I've been quite ill lately and the scales are reflecting my lack of exercise!
Re weighing yourself, how often do you do it?
I weigh several times a week and take a rough average. Even though I'm post menopausal my weight fluctuates. If I weighed weekly and that coincided with my heavier days I'd be very despondent!
Mind you, it was a bit depressing as I weighed 9stone on Monday (post fasting/ colonoscopy) and 9 1/2 stone by Tuesday (but 9 stone 4 today)!
I know lots of people say throw out your scales and let your clothes judge your weight gain/ loss, but personally I think I'd put on half a stone before my clothes felt tight and that's a lot of weight to lose.
Re the increasing steps, there has been recent research which indicates that fewer but more purposeful steps are more effective, so walking flat out for a few minutes so your out of breath and raising your heart rate (sort of walking HIIT) is far more beneficial.
I like Davina Mccall's HIIT routines, 7 minutes plus warm up/ cool down. I tend to do the fat blaster and the tone and sculpt so around 20 minutes in total.

Get your thyroid checked! It’s just a quick blood test, but if your thyroid levels are low then that will seriously impact your chances of losing weight.
There’s a reason that artificial thyroxine is used illicitly for weight loss!

Thanks everyone for replying.

I had bloods done last month and thyroid and everything else are all ok....

I don’t eat high amounts of carbs as can’t eat bread, pasta, oats or white potatoes as they give me stomach ache so my carbs comes from fruit and veg and other things?

bird what tea is it you drink please??

I was weighing once a week but someone suggested every day and take average which I’m now doing. Today 9.2. I can’t get any lower. I even resorted to slim fast and did shake that weight, so was on 800-1000 calories a day and i Still couldn’t get below 9.2. I can’t function on lower than that as my blood pressure is naturally low and I get very dizzy which isn’t good! By the way I know slim fast etc is not good etc and won’t be doing again!

If you only think you have 7lb to lose and you’re already quite light (9.2 is light to me, even at 5.2) then you’re probably going to have to be patient. I was the one who suggested weighing every day & taking an average. You started the thread 4 days ago, so take it from now. Forget slim fast, eat the food you like, just at a level that brings a calorie deficit. Get as active as you can, aim for doing a decent number of steps, eat a decent amount of calories but track to the gram - if you managed 10,000 steps a day I’d bet you could eat at least 1,500 a day and lose .3-.5 a week. You don’t need gyms, you don’t need hiit, your lifestyle doesn’t support it from what you said. Go for walks, march in front of the TV. When you lose the weight you have to keep it off, eating what you like in smaller amounts now means you can eat what you like in bigger amounts later. Btw, trying to take my own advice and I’m 2+ stone heavier than you eating 1800 a day with 15,000 steps. When I’m at 100% I lose 1-1.5 a week, when I’m a bit lax, around .5-.7 a week. It doesn’t have to be hell but it take time, patience & discipline. Best of luck

I am mid 30s and found that i lose weight noticeably and without much effort if i stop eating bread, pasta and sweets (that includes sugar-free ones) and hit the gym seriously with resistance training. None of that zumba or body pump etc, exercises need to be with weights or body weight. Apart from building up muscle, I feel less hungry when I train often. So eat less overall. Got to drink water too, obviously.
