Hi all
I have two and a half stone to lose to get down to my pre kids weight. I'm getting married next year and want to look good.
Id also love to fit into my old wardrobe.
I need a simple easy diet to follow. Is low carb best? I tried Slimming world ages ago and it didn't really work well for me. I lost the first couple of weeks then pretty much stayed the same.
I need something easy ideally no measuring etc.
Your advice tips would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Trying our path online mentoring and support atm better than any other I have tried

A few years ago, I watched an amazing programme where 6 different people tried a different duet each for six weeks. The woman who lost the most (just over a stone) was doing The Scarsdale Diet, an old plan from the 70s.

I bought the book, followed the plan, and lost 3.5 stone in 4 months. No weighing. No measuring. You just eat what he tells you to eat every day for 2 weeks, then follow an easier "maintenance" plan for 2 weeks, etc.

Sample food:

Monday
Breakfast - grapefruit or fresh fruit, 1 slice toast, black coffee.
Lunch - cold meat, tomatoes, salad.
Dinner - Fish or shellfish, veg, more fruit for pudding.

I loved it because it totally trains you to eat really healthily. It's not like SW where you spend your time trying to fit your existing foods into the diet; Scarsdale is really clean eating.

I kept the weight off for 8 years, till I quit smoking and piled 3 stone on in a year. I've just lost 2.5 stone on WW because I find it hard to do a diet more than once. But I eat the Scarsdale way even on WW and it works for me.

Good luck!

Lippy thank you for your suggestion. Is it a paid subscription?
Whatsgoingoneh that's an amazing weightloss. I have never heard of it. Were you hungry on it. I've just ordered the book for 2 quid on eBay. Thank you for the suggestion.

Definitely not hungry after about the 3rd day. But if hungry, you could just eat more of the allowed foods for that meal (except bread; he's v strict about bread).

It's a bit like SW Red Days, really. Meat, veg, fruit, fish = good. Starch, pasta, rice, bread = bad.

LCHB.

A bootcamp has just started over in low carb diets, get yourself over there! >>>>

Jenala · 15/10/2018 12:37

Low carb high fat. 4 stone lost and counting (2 more to go). Lchf has totally changed my life.

The low carb bootcamp is starting over on the low carb board today. Why not join for 2 weeks and see what happens? It's just a few simple rules to follow.

I have tried everything over the years. WW, SW, Atkins, low carb bootcamps on here, and a few others. I’m currently calorie counting using My Fitness Pal which is a free app. There is a My Fitness Pal uk Facebook group which is supportive.

I’m finding it really good. I’m eating healthy foods to within my calorie allowance. Not too many carbs. But if I want something I can hav it once I track it. LCHF made me feel queasy all the time and made me very all or nothing on it. As if you have carbs it really triggers cravings and you gain back the weight really quickly.

Low carb high fat seems to be what a lot of people are doing at the mo. My dp has lost a lot on Keto. I find the fat hard to stomach and prefer leaner food with no oil but could adapt and do low carb at least we could still eat dinner together.
Thank you for all the suggestion just need to stick to one now. X

As mentioned I’m doing calorie counting with MFP but I try to limit carbs. Especially in the evenings. So I quite often don’t have carbs with my evening meal.

I find the fat hard to stomach too - in fact there is a thread in AIBU at the moment about not finding Keto that good health wise that is worth a read. But it’s possible to go lowish carb. Doesn’t get you into ketosis obviously but if you replace all the crap carbs we tend to eat with vegetables and healthier options with some good fats you will lose weight. Maybe not as fast but more sustainable in my view.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 16/10/2018 08:07

OP, what you need to think about is not a diet but permanently changing the way you eat. If you go on a diet but go back to how you ate before, you will gain weight.

If you think that you could spend the rest of your life basically eating a Scarsdale or low fat high carb diet, good. If not, you will need to find another way.

lesstonicmoregin · 16/10/2018 10:12

Follow Robbie Thompson on instagram. Will give you lots of good genuine advice on how to drop the kg's by simply sticking to 1200/1500 calories a day. Are you planning on exercise or just diet ?

You'll love Scarsdale, then. It's plenty of meat and fish, but with visible fat removed and cooked without oil. The intro to the book suggests you'll go into Ketosis if you follow it strictly. I don't think I ever did as I'd often crack and eat some dark chocolate 😆 but it's all still low in calories so I lost weight anyway.

I loved it.

BiscuitsAndGravy · 16/10/2018 10:33

Low carb definitely works. I lost 4 stone 15 years ago and have kept it off.

ladytmp · 17/10/2018 14:39

@MaggieMcSplash I know you said SW didnt work for you, but have you tried it recently??
I tried all sorts to lose weight (even buying pills of the web... i know... stupid) then my mate was like, come to SW i get a free week and i had nothing better to do on a Wednesday afternoon Grin so i did...
best life choice ever.
I lost 5 stone in less then 8 months...and i cant say i was strict... i cut out cider, but still had wine, i still had Chinese food , but had boiled rice not egg fried... i ate way more fruit and veg then before which helped, but didnt buy anything else specifically for it...well apart from frylight!
No exercise involved, and i never weighed out my cereal or milk.... i just eyeballed it and never used all my syns that day.
I think going to group helped the most...the shame of gaining was worse for me, even though the group was lovely... its more the shame i felt!! But it spurred me on!
I just picked foods i liked that were free, ate loads of veggies and stuck to them. And no pizza...because even now i cant not eat the whole thing Grin
