Can diets actually not work, even if you stick to them?

I've been going to slimming world since November, lost nearly a stone and a half by feb and was nearly at my target weight, but then started putting it all back on. I assumed it was because it coincided with the pill, so stopped it, but I'm still putting weight on now. I had been sneaking treats here and there - but no more than when I was losing weight.

For the last three weeks I've stuck rigidly to it, thinking that as I've lost with it before I will again. Today, my jeans are tighter than they were last week! I'll be gutted if I've gained weight.

I do an okay amount of exercise, I walk around 2.5 miles a day. I'm planning on joining the gym and doing two exercise classes a week the start of july. Where am I going wrong?

I think you'll find the weight loss easier once you start doing some exercise that increases your heart rate ie: the gym and the exercise classes. They're much more effective at fat burning than walking.
Good luck.

I found that with sw all the carbs on a green day did me no favours what so ever.

I agree about the exercise. It does help and makes you feel better as well. How much 'sneaking' are you doing though . I find that once the 'sneaking' starts it tends not to stop .

Could there be something you are eating that doesn't suit you and makes you retain water. I find that wheat flour does these days. Also is it near TOM? That will cause bloating.

I'm doing no sneaking now at all! I did whilst I lost weight but now I've stuck to it and am gaining I'm sneaking nothing!!

Maybe it's the carbs as I do mostly green days (don't really like meat) but I've always done mostly green...

I just don't understand why now, you know?

No idea about TOM, AF hasn't returned since having dd 10 months ago. Incidentally have only had one AF in 3.5 years(!)

Maybe it's your portion size? Try eating smaller portions as well as doing more exercise.

you sure you arnt excpecting again????? could of been caught while on the pill??? haha i always think that could be an option no matter what...specially if nothing else explains it..!

Luna - I lost more weight by not dieting but doing exercise instead ... I think sometimes your body gets "trained" to expect less food so when you give it what you normally like to eat, the weight comes piling back on. But if you build muscle (which will be burning your extra food for you all day), that works better to lose weight. Exercise is more fun than dieting if you can find some kind of cardio that you like. But contrary to what you might think, weight lifting actually helps a great deal to lose weight because it builds that fat-burning muscle. A high-protein diet, in general, helps too.

Here are what "Men's Health" magazine terms their "flat abs" foods; you might be surprised at some of them; I certainly was.

?Eat More to Weigh Less: Add at least six of these powerfoods to your diet each day and your body will have the fuel to become a fat-burning machine.?

Almonds and other nuts
Beans and other legumes
Dairy
Eggs
Extra protein powder (the whey kind)
Oatmeal
Olive Oil
Peanut Butter
Raspberries and other berries
Spinach and other green vegetables
Turkey and other lean meats
Whole Grains ? breads and cereals
