HELP! Need diet advice

I started out this year convinced that I could lose 4 stone - worked out at 1lb every week. It is now late August and I weigh the same as in January. I wake up every morning swearing today will be the day I don't buy chocolate or cakes or pick at the kids' tea but it never happens. I'm getting fed up of looking fat & frumpy and need some tips on a good diet to follow. I'm not the Weight Watcher / Slimming World type. I would prefer something that will help me to get into good eating habits and stick to them, won't involve a huge hike in my weekly shopping budget and is easy to follow. Any one got any advice?

I have a book called the obvious diet - Ed Victor which is very helpful and lets you make your own diet to suit you. You keep a diary and sort out the things that make you fat and what you should cut out.

Have to say that exercise is one of the best things too. I am sure I wouldnt lose as much without the gym and wouldnt feel much better as well it lifts your mood.
