Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

Thank you Golden, I'll definitely check that out! And thank you for reminding me of the existence of sundried tomatoes Elspeth! 😍

Liking the sound of the yoga app!

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 20:19

With the Down Dog yoga app I would give the free version a few tries and then see if you think the paid one would be helpful for you! I definitely think it's worth it but it is my main exercise!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 08/07/2018 21:21

Did 25K steps today - hike in the beautiful sunshine! Fridge is full of fresh lovely food for the week ahead.

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 22:08

Very proud of all of you lovelies today - keep growing and glowing! 🌻💃

Kalinka you legend! Are you in the U.K.? And if so, how did you not melt?! Wink

ElspethFlashman · 08/07/2018 23:56

Yes! I like carrots but no flipping way am I boiling one carrot for a salad! Obvs there's frozen but it's still awkward to defrost etc.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 09/07/2018 08:12

Have been swimming in the lido outdoors in the sunshine this week and it's glorious! You get the vitamin D and exercise Grin highly recommend! Happy Monday folks Thanks

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 08:27

Kalinka I'm exhausted and have sun burn just thinking about that - very well done!

Smiled - that sounds absolutely lovely! Happy Monday to you too 🌻

I'm very politically minded so not sure if I'll have time for much exercise with everything kicking off today 😂 but going to get my weekday 6 minutes of Fitness Marshall dance in before breakfast, if only I can get off Twitter...

Posting to read up later! I have a history of disordered eating so wont do diets or calorie counting but have liked the intuitive eating book whoch is more about being in tune with your body.

Ive started swimmimg as I genuinely like it rather than the gum whoch ive felt ove done to make up for being fat.

Id love to do yoga but im obese!

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 08:36

Hello Adventures! Swimming and yoga are my main exercises, and I'm obese too! Down Dog beginner 1 and restorative are totally possible with my body, especially after a few weeks practice. I can't always stretch as much as the lady in the videos, but I just do my own limit/my own slightly tweaked version. So I wouldn't rule it out! If you search plus size yoga on YouTube, there's likely to be some videos on there too that you could follow!

Adventures definitely don’t write off yoga. I’m a skinny minnie and when I went to a regular class there was an obese woman there who could absolutely run rings round me in terms of flexibility and fluid movement. I think have a go; I bet you’ll surprise yourself.

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 08:53

Having looked on YouTube it looks like there's some excellent stuff on there with fat ladies demonstrating the moves, so that might be a good place to start!

I’m in Bavaria - it was about 23 degrees but much of the path was forest so a bit shadier. Chomped by mosquitoes though!

Will have a look at some yoga vids too. I know lots of people love the Adrienne ones but she sends me to sleep!

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 09:50

Kalinka - oh no!! Hope your bites aren't too bad. Let us know if you find any yoga you love!

Oooh Kalinka, I met a couple from Bavaria years ago when travelling. It sounds beautiful. Sorry about the hungry mosquitoes though. I’ve tried all sorts to repel them and the only thing that really works is DEET but it’s such a horrible chemical I think bites are better (unless you’re at risk for malaria). Antihistamine cream is handy if they’re very itchy.

So far today I’ve done my pelvic floor exercises, put all my houseplants in the bath and drenched them in an attempt to save them from the hot weather, and failed to tidy the bathroom. So not brilliant so far!

Meredith501 · 09/07/2018 14:10

@noonelikesfruitcake I just wanted to say thanks for mentioning "Intuitive Eating". I'm only a couple of chapters in and it's already changed my life! It literally describes me and how I am with food.

I don't hate myself anymore, I leave food on my plate, I don't need to binge today because "from tomorrow I'm never eating anything bad again" (repeat x 1 million). It's amazing!

whiskeysourpuss · 09/07/2018 14:38

I've done 4,023 steps today IN HEELS

Downloaded the yoga app so will try that out this evening!

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 14:51

Amazing work everyone! Verbena at least you were up out of bed and moving about - some days that's a big achievement!

Meredith I'm glad to hear you're finding something that suits you and makes you feel better! Keep us updated on how you get on 💕

Go go go whiskey! Look forward to hearing your feedback later! Maybe give yourself a nice foot bath and moisturise later if you have time - I find it makes them hurt less the next day after I've been in heels!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 09/07/2018 18:11

Bloody hell Whiskey, I can’t even get to the other side of the room in heels! Go you!

JackietheBackie · 09/07/2018 20:30

Adventures, please check out Nolatrees for yoga - she does lots of very body positive yoga for bigger people, including lots of practical stuff about protecting your wrists and other joints. It isn’t about achieving perfection all the time - it is about challenging your perceptions and moving yourself in a way that is loving and respectful of the body you have.

Had a fun day of crabbing in rock pools and a gorgeous dinner of steak and spuds. Happy days!

argumentativefeminist · 09/07/2018 21:12

That yoga sounds great Jackie! I've got a dodgy knee so I might get some tips from her to add to my routines!

I like this thread. Started reading it a couple of days ago but was so inspired by it that I went and did some yoga!

Also like the idea of "gaining" something rather than losing.. I'd like to gain more strength in upper body. And also learn to listen to what my body really wants food-wise...am hoping it'll be healthy stuff!

Thanks for starting the thread, OP.

argumentativefeminist · 10/07/2018 15:52

Hey there curtains! Really glad to have you with us 💕 well done on the yoga! I agree on the upper body strength too - need to be able to open jars before I move into my studio flat!
