Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

YANBU. The thought of some boot camp regime makes me terrified. But I don't think calorie counting is that bad, and it does give you an idea of why you are gaining weight or not losing weight. But when done obsessively then no it's not a good idea. I am beginning to think that no eating between meals is the way to go as well as not eating late at night. And of course not eating too much of non-healthy foods.

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 13:18

That's really good progress Forever! Hope you enjoy Down Dog - I'd start with Intro to Yoga if you're totally new, Restorative for something chill, or Beginner 1 for something more active. Beginner 2 is quite hard for me still!

Everything in moderation Vivienne! 😊 Just the phrase boot camp makes me shudder 😂

*meant that my weight loss seems slow going compared to crash diets, don't want to be disparaging to any rate of weight loss

SnartyFartBlast · 08/07/2018 13:36

Ooh can I join?
I've been loosely following sw but it's not for me, I get all obsessed with the rules and make myself miserable.
I'm trying to just eat more unprocessed plants and move my body in ways that feel good!
Now, off to look at the app!

By the way, how do you all measure success? Scales? Measuring your body? Feeling good?

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 14:49

Of course you can Snarty - welcome! 👋 It sounds like you've made a really good start on identifying what makes you feel horrid and finding something better!

I measure success by feeling happy, definitely. If I've been inactive and eaten lots of processed rubbish, it does make me feel crap physically. So if I'm feeling good physically, I must have been doing something good!

Agree with that... I've had a few crappy weeks & have felt crappy... started fresh this morning & I feel much better already.

Just been downloading music for my run!

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 16:04

Not sure what you're into whiskey but I just search on YouTube for artists that I like and remix - e.g. "Beyonce remix" and then download them on a YouTube to mp3 website. Its songs you recognise and like but more beat, thus faster running/swimming! Just don't click on any dodgy websites 😂

Great thread op. I want to focus more on looking after myself than worrying what I look like or getting obsessed with treats. I go to the gym a regularly but I could do more. There’s some hiit stuff on amazon prime I’ve had a little go at and some Pilates too. I’ve 1.5-3 stone to lose depending on your viewpoint and I can’t shift it at the moment and I think it’s because I’m focusing on the wrong things.

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 16:16

Don't get too focused on how far you've got to/want to go Golden - think about how far you've come already in making healthier habits and taking care of yourself better. 💕

Can I just search for the HIIT things on Amazon prime video?

@whiskeysourpuss I’m jealous of your loch-side run. Hope it was beautiful and not too hot.

whiskeysourpuss · 08/07/2018 16:33

Not been yet @Verbena87 will go just after 5 when it's a bit cooler... here's a pic from the last time I was there it is lovely. I'm really lucky in that I've got lots of really nice places to go running as I think I'd give up if was just running around the local streets.

Ah whiskey that’s beautiful! I’m lucky where I live for footpaths too, but no stretches of open water and a lake/loch/bit of sea/big river is so soothing in this weather.

Had a v v v sweaty walk earlier and am now hiding from the sun inside!

whiskeysourpuss · 08/07/2018 18:03

I did it... I had to slow down for the last 2 runs but I did it!

It wasn't any bloody cooler though

Congrats to whiskey and verbena for getting out and about today in this heat! I've got steak, marinated prawns and salad for tea - very excited!

Verbena87 · 08/07/2018 18:22

Well bloody done whiskey! It is so sweltering here.

Argumentativefeminist your dinner sounds gorgeous. We’re having spinach and feta pie and salad, if we can stand putting the oven on!!

whiskeysourpuss · 08/07/2018 18:47

Dinner here is grilled chicken, jersey royals, broccoli & sugarsnap peas... will do an extra chicken breast & potatoes to chuck in a salad for work tomorrow!

You can keep your prawns Argumentative but I love steak & salad so have added that to this weeks menu

I love anything with feta in it Verbena - beetroot & feta salad is a lunch staple for me

Verbena87 · 08/07/2018 18:51

Have you tried beetroot, soft goats cheese and pesto on pizza? Heaven!!

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 19:02

Ooh some lovely ideas here tonight! Absolutely adore broccoli 😍 I dont think I've ever eaten feta but might give it a go now!

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 08/07/2018 19:42

Another one here obsessed with Beetroot and feta in salads...... I'm having it every day at work at the moment. I would happily eat half a jar of Beetroot!

(Don't buy "salad cheese in cubes". It's not the same as feta, its tasteless)

ElspethFlashman · 08/07/2018 19:44

Oh and pineapple goes lovely with it too. I bought a wee tin today for salads next week.

argumentativefeminist · 08/07/2018 19:48

You all have much more exotic salads than me! 😂

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 08/07/2018 20:02

Nah, I just hate tomato. You have to really think hard about salads when you're a tomato hater! 😂

GoldenWonderwall · 08/07/2018 20:03

Thanks feminist Yes I think I searched fitness or something and there’s loads of different stuff included with prime (plus plenty you can pay for).

ElspethFlashman · 08/07/2018 20:04

This is my salad list for the supermarket btw:

Feta

Chopped red pepper
Carrot in jars
Beetroot
Sweetcorn
Bulghar
Shallot
Tuna
Roasted butternut squash
Mushrooms
Sundried tomatoes
Chopped pineapple
Grated cheese
Boiled egg
Chopped chive
Black pudding

I usually get about 4/5 a week. Also add leftovers.
