Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

Oooh licquorice, fennel is gorgeous! Welcome to a whole world of vegetabley joy Wink

argumentativefeminist · 15/08/2018 14:31

Got next semesters timetable this morning - Tuesday and Wednesday off so hopefully will fit in a swim and a cycling class every week! I'll need to take lunch once a week so healthy lunchbox ideas are appreciated - I'm a bit funny about dairy or meat!

Husband is off work for 2 more weeks!!
He’s been here like the whole summer which is fab but rubbish for the diet

CantankerousCamel · 15/08/2018 14:38

Lunches;

Salad of
Pepper
Cucumber
Lettuce
Sweetcorn

With cooked and sliced breast of chicken (in marinade) or salmon or ham

Accompanied with a granola bar and a pot of fruit

Is basically our staple

It costs us £60 to feed four of us (plus infant) that every week every day and is delicious

PixieN · 15/08/2018 22:26

Verbena I can’t block book unfortunately as it’s my local leisure centre and you can only book the week before for the following week if that makes sense. Everyone wants to do Pilates.

I’m the same with vegetables especially the more obscure ones - I don’t know what half of them are! I started a subscription to Hello Fresh, which is great as it’s helping me to learn how to cook from scratch. I don’t do it every week as it would be too expensive, but I keep the recipe cards and have made some lovely meals.

argumentativefeminist · 15/08/2018 22:31

Sounds good Pixie - I might get it for just a few weeks and see what recipes I get!

PixieN · 16/08/2018 08:24

You can pick your recipes and they’ve got quite a good selection including vegetarian options. You just need to select them the week before they deliver. Have a look at their website. I would recommend giving it a go, but for me I probably only do it once-twice a month because of the cost. I also get the box for two and have a smaller portion to DH, so I save some for lunch the next day.

argumentativefeminist · 16/08/2018 09:34

Might be a winner in exam season actually, otherwise I end up living off takeaway and pesto pasta 😂 hopefully back to swimming tonight after 3 weeks off - hope I can still remember how to swim 😂

Big plate of leftover Bolognese for lunch - but bulked up with mushrooms, tomatoes, sugar snap peas and carrot to make it 4 of my 5 a day! Probably way too massive a portion with all that veg, but I need the energy for swimming otherwise I literally give in after 10 minutes 😂

I have finally exceeded 10000 steps a day 🎉

Also, it’s our wedding anniversary so we had fillet steak for tea and it was heaven.

argumentativefeminist · 16/08/2018 22:43

Hope you had an amazing day Verbena 💕🌹 I really love steak, but not feeling too jealous as I did have Chinese to celebrate my brothers A Levels (They grow up so fast 😭😭)

CantankerousCamel · 16/08/2018 23:42

I Lurve filet steak!!

It’s just So tasty and no fatty surprises like with regular steak!

PixieN · 17/08/2018 08:56

Happy wedding anniversary Verbena 🎉🥂 Well done on the step count too - what changes did you make to reach that? Is it an accumulation of small things (ie stairs not lifts) or consciously going for a walk each evening? Some days I seem to do loads of steps, but others I hardly seem to do any. I tend to use my phone to check though and don’t always have it on me so it’s not the most accurate reflection of what i’m doing.

Verbena87 · 17/08/2018 13:16

Ah thanks all!

pixie our house is tiny so it meant 2 walks during the day which I don’t always find time for, as everything is kind of within reach in the house even when I’m up and down stairs a lot!

Currently dealing with teething Velcro-baby who will only sleep on me so today will not be so good, I fear. Oh well. Will hop on the turbo trainer this afternoon and get sweaty instead.

argumentativefeminist · 17/08/2018 13:31

Hope babyVerbena feels better today! Day off today, Chinese leftovers and then fish and chips later. 😳 feeling crap mentally so probably won't do any yoga but have managed to get my recommended exercise levels in this week without overdoing it, which is an improvement on before when I went too hard a few days a week and then did nothing. Trying to even it out a bit more!

Feels better soon, I mean - I doubt a miraculous recovery will happen today unfortunately!

I love fillet steak. I like to eat it with fried mushrooms and onions and sweet potato wedges. Yum. Sadly, I'm a bit of a salad dodger.

Verbena87 · 18/08/2018 10:08

Oh apples yes! We did new potatoes, steamed broccoli and mushrooms with loads of garlic, butter, lemon and black pepper cooked in the steak pan with all the leftover cow juice. Bloody lovely.

Did manage to get on the turbo trainer yesterday so that’s good, and I think we’re possibly out of the woods with the new tooth 🤞🤞🤞. Seeing friends for the weekend so will be indulgent eating but good for our souls.

What’s everyone else got planned?

argumentativefeminist · 18/08/2018 10:12

Still in bed at the moment, feel a bit poorly/knackered/sad. But hopefully yoga today or tomorrow, and then I'll have done my recommended exercise for the weekm Im trying to stick to the NHS exercise guidelines for now, and then build upon it when I've been doing it consistently for a while.

One thing I am looking forward to is the massive incoming Paperchase delivery of stuff for my new flat - this year I really want to make an identity in the stuff I have and the things I wear. It feels very grown up!

Steak and mushrooms sounds yummy Verbena I would have added homemade chunky chips, but I do have a bit of a chip obsession - probably why I’m struggling to shift those extra pounds lol 🙈 😁

Just had boiled eggs with asparagus soldiers and one slice of wholemeal toast so feeling quite good so far. Not done any of my exercise DVDs this week (been busy, but not really an excuse!), but have been trying to increase my step count with lots of walking & planning a lovely long walk with DH today.

Enjoy getting your flat sorted Af Love decorating & getting new stuff delivered.

argumentativefeminist · 18/08/2018 11:22

Enjoy your walk Pixie! I've also just ordered a new lunchbox which is making me strangely excited 😂

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 18/08/2018 11:26

pixie chips would have been gorgeous but we got some lovely new potatoes and they kind of needed to not be messed about too much.

af I’ve got a new insulated water bottle which I’m ludicrously excited about, so I share the lunchbox buzz Wink. Hope you feel brighter soon. I think the cloudy weather gives me a bit of an energy/mood knock.

argumentativefeminist · 18/08/2018 11:32

Verbena Thank you lovely 💕 I think it is the weather and also being in the last month of uni holidays - I just want to go and get stuck into all my new projects but also don't want to go! I'm proud of myself for getting back into exercise after my break though, so that's cheering me up. Anyone got plans for lunch? Need some inspiration for my food shop!

I’m having a party today!! Bbq to start and then much exciting house party afterwards

Very excited

Pluckedpencil · 18/08/2018 12:12

This is a lovely thread. Just what I am trying to do. I'm dipping in and out of different home fitness videos as its way too hot to run until about 9pm here, which is pretty much my bedtime! I have done really well making good food choices this week, and moreover keeping to reasonable portion sizes. Fully enjoyed tagliatelle with ragi yesterday lunch though!!!
