Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

Hello all, might I join you? I want to be slimmer by 62lb but any previous Weight Watchers malarkey has resulted in misery and General Awfulness. Anything requiring counting of points and calories can bog off.

I'm having hypnotherapy in a couple of weeks in the hope that I can rewire my brain a bit and develop a healthier relationship with food. I'd like to be a 'no eating between meals and eat when I'm hungry' type.

MagicFajita · 19/07/2018 14:20

Can I join your discussion? I'm about 10lb more than I'd like, am 9 months pp and due back at work in 6 weeks. My work clothes are too tight but I'd love to be back in them by September.

I've done calorie counting in the past and it was fine but every time I try to get back into it I just get sick of weighing and tracking so obsessively and give up after two weeks.

I've decided to write a food diary and allow 3 healthy meals plus three low cal snacks per day and give myself the day off on a Saturday so that I don't drive myself mad.

I'm going to read all posts here for tips as it looks like my kind of placeSmile

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 14:22

So happy to hear that Camel! Hope it's made you feel all energised and good about yourself 💕

Hello Agatha! 🌟 We're definitely trying to avoid General Awfullness here, and any sort of counting! Let us know how hypnotherapy goes, it sounds interesting!

I'm wondering about a return to 1960s style eating - minus the tripe - less processed food and snacking, without being psychotic about calories and cutting out whole food groups.

ElspethFlashman · 19/07/2018 15:23

Oscha it's YT. I just played it on the big tv. It's v brisk walking, with a few kicks etc and 1 mile = 15 mins. I just did two sessions. But they have 45 min 3 mile ones which I may do another time.

It's just really good cardio. Only downside is this Steve Gutenberg lookalike in the background who looks way too pumped to be walking on the spot. Grin

But Leslie herself isn't too annoying. I much prefer walking to running so it's right up my alley.

Oscha · 19/07/2018 15:30

Thanks-I’ll look for it!

tommytimmy · 19/07/2018 15:38

camel that's really good Smile

Elspeth - Overeating and overdrinking, that's what Me too! Just get up if you fall and keep trying, you'll soon find what works for you through trial and error. Having a daily goal is a good idea, I find if I think of it as a one day at a time process it feels less overwhelming.

I am doing two classes tonight, eek! Legs, Bums and Tums then Freestyle Yoga, i'm not very bendy though. OMG, WHAT IF I SNAP AND FART Shock

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 15:40

tommy I was wondering how long until we had a snap and fart on here 😂 Try not to - it'll do wonders for your core and pelvic muscles holding it in 😂

Omg that will never get old..... 😂😂😂

Oscha · 19/07/2018 16:01

I’ve just cancelled Pilates for tonight because my head hurts so much 😣 I want it to rain so badly. My head can’t take the pressure!

CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 16:06

I’ve just eaten LOADS of quavers and chocolate ice cream with the kids.

I think I’ve got the pre period munchies

tommytimmy · 19/07/2018 16:15

ah camel period munchies are the worst. It's like a compulsion you just can't ignore. Gives me the rage I tell you Angry

tommytimmy · 19/07/2018 16:16

af got it, I shall clench my way to a six pack Grin

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 16:24

Hope you feel better soon Oscha - I've been so irritable, lethargic and achey these past few days and I swear it's the weather! It's so muggy outside like it's just waiting for a massive storm 🤞

I totally give up on everything when I'm hormonal Camel - my body is telling me what she needs and I'm not going to get in her way when she's angry 😂 at the mo I'm on hormonal contraception but still have peaks and troughs of rageyness and PMS symptoms every month. A little bit of light yoga normally chills me out and makes my body feel good.

I'm not sure whether this goes against the gentle nature of this thread, but are any of you weighing yourselves? Weighing is a bit of a disaster for me, if I've lost weight I see it as permission to eat more and if I haven't I see it as failure therefore I may as well submerge myself in chocolate fingers.

ElspethFlashman · 19/07/2018 16:34

I weighed myself last week. Horrible! But it gives me a baseline.

Might do it again in a month. But definitely not very often.

I figure it'll become apparent if I'm toning up.

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 16:50

I'm giving up weighing myself. Probably do it about once a month but I've found I only feel like I want to weigh myself when I'm insecure and unsure about whether I'm doing enough/making enough progress - it comes hand in hand with negative thoughts for me hence why I'm trying to stop. It sounds like you feel similarly so I'd try your very best to give up. The main goal is to feel healthy, energised and happy, and the scales can't tell you any of that!

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 19/07/2018 17:10

Healthy, energised and happy. I love that idea. Smile

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 17:26

I have so much more energy now after only 3 weeks of doing this exercising stuff properly. All it takes is something slightly boppy on the radio and I'm dancing around! Have gotten so much more uni work done too, somehow sitting down and properly powering through something with some coffee has become appealing again! I think it's all to do with feeling more confident in my body (not that that was ever lacking! 😉)

OP posts:
CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 17:55

I can’t do yoga because of the hyper mobility!
I did order some compression leggings that are clearly too big. So that’s really cool :-)

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 18:15

Ah Camel that's rubbish! 😣😣 Can you return them at least? Still annoying though.

OP posts:
CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 18:33

Yes I’ll just send them back

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/07/2018 18:50

I am cycling to work as main exercise plus swimming ( which I love love love )

I started in January so reaping the rewards now !

What used to exhaust me is now a fairly easy ride

I think slowly and surely is the key .

I also ate some carbs at lunch and had some dark choc as felt so weak

Everyone at work had a headache today too - really strange energy at the moment

Me too AF . I think cutting the Wine and extra energy has helped as also
Working really hard

argumentativefeminist · 19/07/2018 19:01

stop I love my swimming too especially after I got an underwater mp3! I'm concerned about your weakness and dizziness tbh - might be worth getting some blood tests alongside trying to get more energy in your food?

Cutting down alcohol is really good though! I hardly drink despite being at uni - a few big nights out a year and a couple of glasses of wine during the most stressful weeks, but it's not part of my day to day life. Save money as well as get healthier!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/07/2018 19:05

Bless you for your concern

I had tests only 2 months ago and all was good , bloods and cholesterol

So have I have ordered some vitamin B12 online today and am going to take a look at nutrition. And stop being quite so restrictive

It’s very commin when people switch to mainly vegan but need to address I agree
