Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

What AF said.

And yeah BMI is deeply deeply flawed but it’s a useful tool for me to avoid getting sucked into the temptation to aim really tiny (ie don’t let myself drop back into ‘underweight’ unless I’m back to hill running and it’s because of using my body for joy, rather than denying myself decent food.) Does that make sense?

ElspethFlashman · 18/07/2018 11:22

I don't really know that much about it except that lots of girls in work are on it, so could help me out with it.

But they all eat basically salads for breakfast. They eat loads, mind you, but the menu planning is off the charts. They have the time though, as they have no kids so only have to feed themselves and can buy only SW friendly stuff.

Yesterday one was extolling the wonders of Quark. I dunno....

Actually fuck it. I don't want to eat fucking cauliflower rice. I want to eat regular rice! I'm not going!

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 11:26

I get you Verbena - sometimes it's useful and a good safety mechanism to have some measurable and empirical boundaries of what you will/won't do to your body.

Yes Elspeth! 😍💃 Quark is grim and so is cauli rice - give your body what it wants and needs and keep it moving, and you'll be healthier and healthier every day.

His treats are actually in a top cupboard! But when he has the packet of biscuits it's like I think "oh just one to be sociable"

But it's never just one!

Verbena87 · 18/07/2018 11:39

Cauliflower rice really annoys me because cauliflower is so delicious if you don’t abuse it! (Best in curries, or roasted with either garlic/lemon/pesto, or garlic/lemon/chilli/cumin seeds. Mmmmmm!)

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 11:43

I'm so bad for that too Elspeth - my family laugh at me because I just sit there like a sad little puppy when someone else has something nice until they give me a bit 😂 I've started getting my own nice but healthier snack when I'm jealous of someone else's - half the time I dont actually want their biscuits, I just want something!

I've never got on with cauliflower but those ideas sound quite nice Verbena so I might give it another shot!

AF I’d roast it if you’re trying to sell it to yourself. Bit of olive oil, good squeeze of lemon all over then whatever else you fancy. Bung in at 180c and shake every so often, splash of water if it looks like it’s drying out. Poke occasionally and eat when perfectly soft.

Will make cauliflower rice look like a bad joke.

tommytimmy · 18/07/2018 15:10

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 15:45

Hehe I feel like I'm having a job interview Grin

Well, I have lost a small amount of weight since Xmas but in a bit of a rut with taking to food and drink for comfort (my alcohol consumption is another story but am seeking help for it). Want to get the ball rolling again, going to a gym class tonight.

While I want to lose weight, dealing with the alcohol is my priority healthwise so not putting pressure on myself, going to start using exercise to help with my anxiety and I find when I do exercise regularly I naturally want to eat healthier foods. Win/Win (I hope)!

Ooh this is like therapy Grin

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 16:19

Tommy - It's good to get things out in words sometimes! Im glad to hear you're working on the alcohol, I hope that goes well 💕 Let us know how you get on with your class tonight!

Thanks. It's one I've not done before so I'm a bit nervous. I'll update you later (if my arms still work!) Grin

CantankerousCamel · 18/07/2018 17:01

tommy so common to be nervous, we all are when we first start. You’ll be amazing and all that anxiety will just make you exercise more ;-)

Verbena87 · 18/07/2018 17:19

Hiya tommy !

Sounds like you’re already heading in the right direction to me. For me, cardio is the best medicine for anxiety, but I think anything that takes you away from analysing and thinking and gets you up and moving is great for being present in the moment and feeling capable.

I do a bit of mindfulness meditation when I get time as well. But getting sweaty is a quicker fix.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 19:12

What's for dinner tonight lovely people? No pressure to share if you dont want to, equally no pressure to lie and make it sound healthier than it is 😂

I'm having lemon roasted chicken, paprika and garlic roast potatoes, chorizo, roasted peppers and onions and broccoli 😍

M+s garage something

tommytimmy · 18/07/2018 20:09

I HAVE SURVIVED!

Thanks camel and verb Smile

I've been going to the gym for a while now but been very off and on the last couple of months. I need to take responsibility for my health NOW. No more excuses.

tommytimmy · 18/07/2018 20:13

Ooh af that sounds lovely.
I had chicken, roasted carrot and swede with some baked beans.

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 20:15

Well done Tommy!! Sometimes you just need a little kick up the bum to get back into a routine. Hopefully we can help you stick with it 💕

Wagamama 😬😆

CantankerousCamel · 18/07/2018 20:46

Some sort of pasta/bolognaise type thing with garlic bread and salad.

CantankerousCamel · 18/07/2018 21:58

I weighed myself today, 17.11

I would like to be down to the 15’s by September

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/07/2018 22:12

OP and all

Wondered what people
Thought about plant based diets ?

I have been one this and it’s worked . It also fits with my vegan friendly desire ( not 100%)

I do eat the odd carb and small piece of cheese but as a general role I eat mainly fruit and veg , the odd boiled egg

Don’t calorie count really

It’s really worked for me and wondered if anyone else had tried this ?

I’ve lost 2.5 stone in 6 months

argumentativefeminist · 18/07/2018 22:18

Im sure you can do it Camel! Try not to weigh yourself too much though, just focus on how much better you're feeling!

stop - I've never really looked into plant based diets and I definitely couldn't do one! I'm really reliant on protein for energy and fullness. But if it's making you feel good and keeping you healthy, then I say go for it! Just don't get too restrictive 💕
