My fitness pal and sugar

I’ve had a crazy work day and didn’t get chance for lunch. All I’ve had so far is 4 apples and a strong mint and yet MFP is saying I’ve had 20g much sugar. Today is not a normal food day for apples really that bad for me? And if they are, how can I get enough fibre without a couple of portions of fruit?!

Sorry, my phone didn’t something odd and posted before I’d finished - I was change it to say ‘today is not a normal food day for me but are apples really that bad?’

MFP doesn’t differentiate between added sugar and the sugar which occurs naturally in diary, fruit etc. It just sets the level at 15% of daily calorie intake. NHS guidance is no more than 30g of added sugar a day but not to cut back on fruit. Other countries (Australia for example) recommend no more than 2 pieces of fruit a day because of the sugar content - so it’s fair to say there isn’t a universally agreed approach.

The MFP forum is generally pretty good. There’s a FAQ about how the app treats sugar here:
