1200 calories for ten weeks and not much change

Realitea · 14/06/2018 22:02

I’m getting a bit fed up here. I’ve done my fitness pal for about ten weeks and lost a pound a week since starting. It’s just so slow. Why?
I’m really active aswell. I haven’t had a gain since starting but was hoping I’d lose 2.5 stone by August.
Anyone have any advice or tips?

Get rid of the carb, sauces and diet lemonade. Prepare green tea, infuse it for 10 min then pour into a jug and add frozen berries and a sliced piece of fruit ( orange, peach, ...) Not need to put sugar or sweetener. Or do a cold brew of hibiscus tea. Leave the cup in the fridge. Delicious.

If I eat 1500 cal I put on weight.

Realitea · 15/06/2018 06:59

I think the diet lemonade has to go Sad
I have tried not eating back the calories but I don’t have enough energy, it makes me feel really weak.

Exercise calories are usually over estimated unfortunately. But 10lbs is a great weight loss.

If you are feeling weak, try eating more protein. Also do you drink enough water? I have sparkling water with a slice of lemon which is refreshing.

thenightsky · 15/06/2018 09:26

butlerswharf Glad its not just me.

Strongbeatsskinny · 15/06/2018 12:33

Can’t help but laugh out loud at Paddy’s response obviously doesn’t understand a petite lady doesn’t require heaps of calories.

Are you actually weighing out your protein and Fats and carbs? Fats will give you enough Energy and keep you feeling fuller longer.

My guess is that you are probably unaware that you are taking in more calories than you think your eating unintentionally. I think you need to cut out the lemonade and replace it with at leat 2 ltrs of water.

tobee · 15/06/2018 16:08

My gp nurse told me 1,200 per day Paddy.

gryffen · 15/06/2018 16:55

My pre op liver shrink diet was 800kcals and I lost 6kg in 2 weeks. Now after surgery on 1200 calories at a year post op and down 72kg.

Had to bump up to 1500 due to pregnancy.

Quick query - are you snacking and not knowing?

Sauces hidden or added can be lethal for weight loss - water intake?

Diet lemonade is ok as long as it's not 2l a day etc.

I am very much a protien rich diet due to the surgery so I like a milkshake made with the Morrisons own brand of Slim fast shakes - quite thick but very filling.

Realitea · 15/06/2018 19:04

I think MyFitnessPal is overestimating the calories I’m burning but even so, I am following the slimming world diet.
Maybe it’s the medication I take. I used to lose weight a lot quicker before that. I take amitriptyline and although the doctor says it doesn’t effect weight, I have heard people say it does.
I will up the water intake from now on and make sure I have at least a quarter of my plate vegetables instead of half carb half protein and a little bit of veg. That’ll probably make a difference.

OP definitely definitely cut tour carbs down.
I used to be able to lose weight easily just cutting my calories.
As I've got older it takes longer to lose the weight.
You are better off cutting bread out and fewer carbs . I would never have butternut squash and sweet potatoes together for instance.

After a few days of no/lower carbs I don't feel as hungry either.
Also definitely up your water intake.
Good luck !

Imfinehowareyou · 15/06/2018 19:27

I wouldn't count the exercise calories at all (just whilst trying to lose weight).
I am the same height as you and recently weighed over 11st. I have lost 18lbs over the last 9 weeks following the 5:2 diet. If you Google the 5:2 calculator it tells you your daily calorie allowance. When I fill my details in I always choose 'sedentary lifestyle' even though I am pretty active. I have consistently lost 2lb each week and have drunk lots of diet lemonade!
My current daily allowance is 1480 which I have 5 days a week. The other 2 days I have 500 calories which is surprisingly easy to do if you have a very busy day.
Once I am at the weight I want to be I can add in my exercise calories.

Imfinehowareyou · 15/06/2018 19:30

Here is the calculator.

SluttyButty · 15/06/2018 19:47

Paddy you need to watch the programme that was on itv last night and the night before about reversing type 2 diabetes.
They were on a liquid diet of 800 cals for 8 weeks with variations.
It was medically supervised and had spectacular results health wise.

I'm sure those doctors supervising would love to hear your thoughts Hmm

SluttyButty · 15/06/2018 19:49

Oh and Op I gained a ton on a higher dose of amitriptyline but am fine on between 10-20 if I mix it up a bit, 10 in the week and 20 on fri, sat, sun.

GetInMyNelly · 15/06/2018 19:55

1200 calories is NOT dangerously low.

I've been advised because I'm "obese", to do a TDR (Total Diet Replacement) and only have 600-800 calories a day for 3 MONTHS without a break.

So 1200 is nearly double what I've been advised.

bridgetosomewhere · 15/06/2018 20:06

I’d cut out the carbs too. No rice, bread, potatoes, sweet pots, pasta - just have lots of green or colourful veg instead

Ie cauliflower cheese, roasted BNS

Drink more water

Job done!

aaronburr · 15/06/2018 20:22

Don't be ridiculous @PaddyF0dder

I'm 5'3". I'm currently eating 1200 a day as well as hitting well over 10,000 steps a day and I'm still only losing a pound a week. If it were dangerously low surely I'd be losing a lot quicker?!

You can eat quite a lot for 1200.

halfwitpicker · 15/06/2018 20:24

paddy no, it really fucking isnt, its called being nearly forty and female!

You may be blessed with an excellent metabolism , but alot of us aint

^

Sad, but true.

Sounds like you're doing amazing, OP.

halfwitpicker · 15/06/2018 20:31

Maybe I should up the fruit and veg instead of carbs?

^^

Each to their own but personally I don't do well off bread, pasta and rice. Potato is OK, including sweet potato, but pasta simply doesn't fill me. I have more veg, lentils, and more protein.

Veg can be interesting too, soups, salad, crudités, sauces, stews, chilli, curry etc etc - doesn't have to just be simple veg on a plate.

KingIrving · 15/06/2018 21:38

The calculator a post linked puts my basal metabolism at 1193 calories so if I want to lose weight, I should eat less than 1200 calories!

BlondeB83 · 15/06/2018 23:17

Don’t eat back your exercise calories. The apps/machines overestimate.

BlondeB83 · 15/06/2018 23:19

I also cut out most carbs with the occasional bit of bread/potato/pasta.

I’ve lost 16lbs in 7 weeks which I’m happy with.
