Do you eat more than your husband?

Iamblossom · 26/04/2018 21:08

I do. Almost everyday.

Me:

Big banana, 0% Greek yoghurt with lots of seeds and blueberries

Satsuma, grapes and 2 hard boiled eggs mid morning

Low fat chicken salad sandwich, popcorn and some (lots of) monkey nuts for lunch

Big bowl of turkey vegetable bean chilli with sprouts

Him:

2 pieces of toast and marmite

Tuna salad with a lemon juice dressing, packet of squares crisps

Same turkey chilli tea as me.

He does a very physical job, I drive a car and a desk all day.

I find this fascinating. How is he not hungry?

I normally eat as much or more than DH. Same portion sizes at mealtimes and I often have a toast or other snacks between meals.

He's a fair bit taller but I'm probably more active, currently training for a long distance run. We're both slim by the way (I'm a size 8).

KellsBells99 · 26/04/2018 21:29

Any possibility he eats more at work and you simply just have no idea about it...?

CheshireSplat · 26/04/2018 21:30

Was thinking the same as Kells. DH eats so many biscuits at work...

Iamblossom · 26/04/2018 21:55

He deffo does not.

Does not have access to food at his work and only has what he takes with him.

No. I used to. I'd always eat more during the day than he did and in the evening whichever one of us was making dinner would serve us both the same big portion.

Then I ended up a stone and a half overweight and realised that I'm sitting behind a desk all day in a very sedentary way while my husband (7 inches taller and 4 stone heavier) is outside in a garden all day lifting stuff, carrying stuff, chopping stuff etc. Of course he needs more fuel than I do.

I started to cut down my portion sizes (among other things) and hey presto I realised I had been eating far more food than I actually needed.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 27/04/2018 09:47

Nobody on this planet eats more than my husband.

Justanotherzombie · 27/04/2018 09:49

Your body is used to more food so asks for more food. I eat breakfast so if it’s too small I’m starving by 11am. For years I didn’t eat breakfast and my hunger only kicked in at lunchtime.

You really don’t need the mid morning snack but it might take a little time for your body to get the message.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 27/04/2018 13:09

I probably do as I'm a plate clearer and he is quite happy to leave things on his plate.

I do try and serve myself a smaller portion.

itallhappensforareason · 27/04/2018 13:11

Yes I eat more than DH. He also has a physical and very busy job where he is on his feet all day and quite often doesn't eat breakfast or take a lunch break. I don't know how he does it - I would be on the floor!

Babybearsporij · 30/04/2018 23:06

No. But he is twice the size of me!

ReturnofSaturn · 30/04/2018 23:18

No nowhere near as much. I probably eat the same as your husband.
You could easily cut out the fruit and eggs mid morning i dont see why you need these if youve had breakfast already.

CaseStudyResearch · 30/04/2018 23:24

We were eating the same sized portions and both got pretty big - I was the same weight then as his ideal weight.

I cut my portion sizes massively and started moving more.

Average day is:

Cappuccino/Latte with skimmed milk and no sugar.

Salad/sandwich on the go - normally no more than 600 cal. Today was a 6 inch subway and half a cookie.

Tea can be anything, as long as the portion size is right. Tonight was chicken stir fry with half a bag of veg each.

I normally end up averaging 1500-1600 calories a day over the week, cutting back if I know I’m out of certain days or over indulged. DH probably has around 2500 calories.

We walk about 11-12k steps a day and do a good 30 weights session 3 times a week too.

BackforGood · 30/04/2018 23:28

No. He eats more than me.
I think the amount you eat has a LOT to do with habit.

JustSeeingHowManyCharactersWeC · 01/05/2018 08:18

I could just about manage what your husband eats (one bit of toast though)but you eat a lot. I'd have to drop the first two meals.

Are you snacking because you're bored?

beela · 01/05/2018 12:44

No, but I could easily if I let myself.

3stonedown · 01/05/2018 12:47

Jesus no. Not to say you eat loads but DP is a bloody machine. He easily eats more than double your DH, probably closer to 3x.

Iamblossom · 01/05/2018 12:48

No I snack when I get hungry.

I average 1700 cals a day and do 1 Fast Day a week.

Yes I agree it is habit and my body is used to me snacking so expects it.

Justseeing I may eat frequently but they are low calorie choices in the main

Bluntness100 · 01/05/2018 12:51

Are you a healthy weight? Is he?

I don't eat more than my husband, but he is taller than me and larger framed, so needs more calories than I do.

Iamblossom · 01/05/2018 13:55

yes we both are

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 01/05/2018 13:59

Me and DP eat about the same. Though in fairness I'm a little taller than him. And I weigh about a stone more than him much to my disgust. He tries to assuage me that that stone is my boobs but I'm not convinced Grin

Both of us are a healthy weight though (his BMI is lower than mine)

LemonysSnicket · 01/05/2018 18:34

My P probably eats around what you do, he weighs 10 stone and is 6 foot. I probably eat 2,300 calories a day ( a lot more than him) because he has a stomach problem (chronic) so he is underweight. My BMI is 20. It just depends on what your body needs, your diet sounds good to me.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 01/05/2018 18:41

No my husband easily eats double what i do and pretty unhealthy stuff too hes thin im fat not fair

lljkk · 01/05/2018 20:26

DH does stuff like cycle 100miles twice a week. I exercise daily but not like that. He eats fair bit more than me Grin Was the first boyfriend I ever had who ate more than me, tbf. We both eat a lot less now than 20 yrs ago.

MangoBiscuit · 01/05/2018 20:42

I eat a fair bit more than DH. I also tend to eat healthier stuff, and far more protein. (I usually eat about 2300 a day, more if I've burnt more cals than normal.) He's bigger/heavier than me, but I workout more.

Caramelapplecake · 01/05/2018 20:50

We eat differently. I eat similarly to you with a couple of extra snacks mid afternoon and in the evening. I tend to graze but most of it is healthy apart from I may have a desert or packet of crisps.

DH tends to eat less in the day but then he will eat non-stop during the evening. He will also eat more unhealthy stuff then me for instance he never eats just one chocolate bar or one pack of crisps.

We are both slightly overweight- DH more than me but he carries a lot of muscle as his work is physical and he exercises more than I do.
