Excess skin

Can anyone help me on ways to deal with excess skin after weight loss? I seem to be gathering heaps and heaps of it and it's really getting me down... I'm worried about having to have it all removed.

I don't want to drip feed, so I'll add that I also have a connective tissue disorder which means that it is less springy than most people's skin so doesn't spring back- and it tears very easily, so my worry is that it will get lots of tears and be difficult to care for.

Any suggestions?

Hi OP, how much weight have you lost and over what period of time? Are you finished losing weight now? I believe there is not too much you can do to get rid of the excess skin unfortunately (aside from surgery of course) but working on toning your body and building muscles to help ‘fill out’ the skin again (but obviously in a much healthier way) can help a bit particularly for areas with big muscle groups like chest, arms and legs. Making sure you drink lots of water and keep the skin hydrated with moisturiser (maybe coconut oil?) is another tip but I don’t know if there’s much science to back that up. Have you spoken to anyone about supplements to help the skin’s elasticity? I don’t know anything about it at all but would something like collagen be useful? I’d talk to your GP about the issue. And ultimately remember that you’re so much healthier with the weight loss and that is worth more than the excess skin as difficult as it may be to deal with.
