Healthy habits for 2018 - join me?

I need to stop with diets. They don't work for me long term. I'm trying to build up healthy habits. I feel dieting is leading to compulsive overeating when diets end or binges when I fail. I want to get off this track this year. I'm committing to being healthy, or at least healthier, every month this year. I'm going to log a new practice each week or so and monitor if I'm managing to make them stick. Anyone going to join me?

Well reporting on Monday this time! Feels like a shit week because I've realised that I actuslly gained a kilo in feb- I now lost this kilo last week. But the speed with which the scale goes up and the effort involved in creeping it back down feels staggering. I gained 2 kilos in the week to 10 days I felt low at the start of Feb. It's taken 3 weeks to reverse my blip. It's stupidly difficult. Anyway I'm trying a gentle low carb. Basically bootcamp lite. Some berries, some nuts..
I hate ghats ghdn scale is putting dampener on a really good week
Juice 7/7
Veg 7/7
Exercise 3/3

Physio- didn't happen

Wave ay yumyum! I hope some more of you will resurface.
I think consistency is what is hard but it's also the key to proper lifelong healthy weight etc.
Anyway I started 30 DS again. I don't like it but it is very very effective!

I lost weight due to stress in january and have kept it off for 5 weeks and then just ate all around me being snowbound . My plan is to try not to eat anything from 8 pm til lunch the following day . Is that a bit crazy. It does work and then not overeat ??

lasttimeround · 06/03/2018 07:08

Hi radyward. Im not sure that sounds crazy. It sounds a bit like intermittent fasting where you restrict the times when you eat.

Again. Not much success. But i did well on green juice sll week. On veg until weekend. Did 3 sessions of 30ds as exercise. Thats not bad but im frustrated by my size and lack of any scale progress. I think i need to step back again and just focus on being healthy not losing weight

Well that didnt happen! Ive started the 8 week blood sugar diet. Im convinced im insulin resistant. Regardless of the truth of that im avtually finding 800 cals easier than eating more. Seeing some scale success is helping. I think k will go back to a healthy habits focus. At least i know that with those i stabilise- even though i dont lose any weight.

Really pleased. Im finally below 70 kgs (11 stone). In spitting distance of a healthy weight for my height. The blood sugar diet is really helping with my appetite too. Im doing another 2 weeks of this before i review again. Then up to another 4 weeks. Then back to a focus on healthy habits for maintenance. Feel super aware that my main challenge isnt just getting the weight off (hard enough) but keeping it off

Aaaand the rebound! ... as ever... 2-3 weeks of rigorous excited dieting then i fall off the wagon. Regained all but a pound of what i lost. Trying to stop eating like a loon.
When will i learn??? I know healthy habits will help long term etc etc and theres more to it than weight but still....every time!!! Frustrated with myself

Well done Lasttime - we seem to be dieting twins, my main goal at the mo is under 11 stone. I have not been able to get back to BSD properly - I have this with diets where they work once but so much harder to do it again.

I am not doing well with healthy habbits either but I think I am going to try and eat as much veg as pos while aiming for BSD and just stick with that! I am doing quite well with exercise though.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/05/2018 15:08

Ooh just seen there is a quite busy veg thread, I might join that to keep me on track - do you fancy it lasttime - not sure I can eat as much veg as some people on there though!

lasttimeround · 07/05/2018 09:16

Hi yumyum- will have a look at the veg thread.

Bit late to the party but can I join?
My eating habits are awful and I know they are, my aim this month is to make a conscious effort to eat better and stop with the unhealthy snacking.
I am on W6 of couch to 5k and don't want to ruin my progress by eating crap! My husband is on nights this week so there is a lot of snacks food in the kitchen and it's going to take a lot of willpower not to just eat it all. I struggle as well because the o my fruit I like to eat I am allergic to so I can't eat it. I do however love veg! Any ideas for healthy snacks that don't involve fruit or raw veg?

goingonabearhunt1 · 10/05/2018 10:26

Can I join? I need to get back into good habits after losing my way slightly.

My goals are:

Water-2 big bottles a day (have only been drinking in the morning and this tends to lead to snacking)

Steps-10,000 every day (usually hit this but some days I need to walk more at lunch time)

2 exercise classes a week minimum

Sleep-basically everything else stems from this one, need to go to bed on time so I get at least 7 hrs. I find when I do that I can get up for exercise, i snack less and eat less sugar.

lasttimeround · 12/05/2018 07:33

Hi Rocket and Goingonabearhunt - nice to have you. Im sort of starting again after beung ill for about 10 days and massively stressed before then.
My key habits are much like bearhunts. Water, steps and veg. Baby steps still as im not doibg to well on any. But s good outcome would be not to go completely off piste and eat lots of crap. I can be very all of nothing on health stuff and in a way thats the key thing to change long term.
Im not sure about healthy snacks that arent fruit and veg. Depends a bit on what you mean by healthy - low cal or nutritious. For nutrition i guess fruit and veg it is. Although greek yoghurt for calcium? Low cal theres plenty of stuff - rice cakes sugar free jelly etc. I ofren eat when im eating compulsively but i wonder how healthy it is. Sweeteners and other crap. Im a bit of a fan of peanut butter with apple or apple with a bit of cheese for snacks. I bought an icecream maker at lidl last week. Ice cream is a real weakness for me and i thought i might at least imprive the quality of the ingredients. Althoughbits still masses of fat and sugar.
Anyway will check in on Monday
