2018 - Thread 2 of Help Me Mumsnet I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/12/2017 17:17

Hi everyone,

It's the day after the day after Boxing Day, Thursday 28 December 2017!

Just over a year ago, on Boxing Day 2016, I was 14 stone exactly (My highest weight ever was 14st 5, I'm 5 foot 2 ish). So I needed to lose 4 stone just to get to a healthy weight. After a false start, I lost 3 stone, getting down to a low of 11 stone exactly through stopping binge-eating. I also went to (private) CBT therapy and started going to the gym. I had popped back up to 11st3-4 in the run up to Christmas, mainly as a result of complacency and dropping the gym visits due to the dark evenings.Having eaten more than usual and some salty foods over Christmas itself, as of this morning, I'm 11st 5. I need to lose at least 2 stone really to be a healthy weight and perhaps 2.5-3 to achieve peak gorgeousness!

(I also had £10k worth of debt, mainly on credit cards. I re-mortgaged and I now have £5k on a 0% credit card for 2 years. I've worked out I need to pay it off at £200/month)

In terms of weight loss, the general rules are to err on the side of low carb, unprocessed food. I need to get in more salad/veg and restart the gym sessions. I also need to watch portion sizes and ditch the snacks, treats and extras.

Rowgtcfc has been an amazing help throughout and I hope she will join me on this shiny new thread! Would also be delighted to see new comrades of any size, shape or "diet" plans!

I've attached a pic of me at my heaviest plus one at the end of last year.

Some of my best tips which I hope help!

  • every day is every thing. it's what you do every day over the course of a year which makes a difference. In a year, what will you wish you did today?
  • it's ok to just not eat crisps/chocolate/sweets/cakes/biscuits, easier, even, than trying to moderate
  • eggs for breakfast
  • salad and veg are your friends
  • low sugar but good fats is anti-ageing too!
  • You need less food than you think. You won't die from hunger.
  • The secret is: there is no secret. Most slim folk have to prioritise it and work at it.
  • Practice being slim. Act like you're slim.
  • Do what suits you, find your own path. Eg don't assume breakfast is vital for you.

Keeping my face out of the fridge!Grin

No, seriously. A lady I work with has always been bigger than me, started with slimming world and now weighs the same as me. Not bloody having that!Angry

Wrongwayup · 11/02/2018 19:18

back from holiday - lots of hiking. but also lots of wine - own fault went to a wine region!

OohOohMrPeevly · 11/02/2018 19:49

Rowgtfc72 that's hilarious re the woman at work and I wouldn't have it either!

73kittycat73 · 13/02/2018 01:15

Hello everyone, I hope you don't mind me popping in again unannounced? I have been away because of a medical issue. On the off chance, during an unrelated call, I asked if the Dr could give me a blood test to see if I was menopausal as my periods had come back. He said no and probed further. To cut a long story short I was given an urgent referral to hospital. Turns out I have womb cancer. It's been really hard because of the agoraphobia. I've been having to take 2 diazepam every time I go. Anyway, had an MRI Friday week and went for the results last Friday. Good news, it hasn't spread! Grin I have to go for a pre-assessment on Wednesday, then in for a hysterectomy next Tuesday. I am a bit scared but trying to think of the positive, no more periods every, I can buy nice undies! Lol Hopefully that will be it, no more hospital trips!
I hope you are all keeping well? I shall read back some of the thread. Oh yeah, I have kept to healthy eating, bar one takeaway and a slice of birthday cake. I weighed myself yesterday (Doing it monthly.) and since 8th January I've lost 19lbs!!! I couldn't believe it, I though maybe (I was hoping. Grin ) half a stone. I've never lost that much weight before in my life!
Got a bit carried away with myself earlier. The TV shopping channel IdealWorld are selling a vibrating exercise machine at a lower price for 24 hours. I've lost inches from my bust, hips and waist, but the least amount from my waist. All my fat is in my stomach and I wanted some help to tone it down. It was £149.00, down to £99.00. I was thinking of spending the money I have saved up for Christmas and new clothes on it. Luckily I spoke to my mum about it, said I was interested and she pointed out to me that I wouldn't be able to do stomach exercises for at least 8 weeks because of the surgery. Doh! Lol Luckily I hadn't brought it by then!
Right, sorry for going on, will catch up a bit with the thread now! Smile

73kittycat73 · 13/02/2018 01:56

Sorry for the essay there! Just reading about cutting out snacking. That's basically what I did. Shows just how much I was eating before! (I must admit, I really really miss cake! Cake )
How's the rambling going Chicken?
Hi Coffee, how's it going with you?
Hi Row good luck on beating the other woman! Lol

73kittycat73 · 15/02/2018 01:14

Oops, I think I killed the thread. Blush

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 15/02/2018 02:10

On my phone in hospital so can't reply to everything, but SHIT Kittycat Sad. You poor thing. That's awful. I am so so sorry. How are you feeling about the hysterectomy? It must all be a total mind f*ck Sad. I really hope the op goes smoothly for you x x x

OohOohMrPeevly · 15/02/2018 07:38

Kittycat sorry I read your post and wanted to say something but struggled to find the right words. I'm so pleased the cancer hasn't spread and you sound really positive which I know is a massive help to recovery. Best of luck and sending lots of love your way xx

73kittycat73 · 15/02/2018 20:41

Hi guys, sorry to have bought the thread down, didn't mean too!
I am feeling very positive about it all. Hysterectomy on Tuesday and then that's it, done. I'm more dreading having to stay overnight! lol
Are you in hospital getting ready for the baby Coffee? I hope all is well?
Hi MrPeevly, thank you for your kind words. Smile Both of you really touched me, thank you. Flowers
How are you both doing on your diets/healthy eating? I've been mega craving cake! I keep thinking, I've lost the weight, now I should be able to eat! lol Truth is, I've got about another three stone to go! (That cake keeps popping in my mind though. lol.) I saw an ad today (QVC) where someone was 'icing' a chocolate sponge cake with runny chocolate. Yummmmmm! lol instead of thinking of cake I'll have to keep motivated by browsing Ebay for summer dresses, and I quite fancy a jumpsuit.
Thanks again for your kind words, I hope you are both in good spirits and doing well. Flowers

Wrongwayup · 15/02/2018 21:25

Hi Kitty
Not posted much but just wanted to add my very best wishes. will think of you on Tuesday. you are doing great. x

OohOohMrPeevly · 15/02/2018 23:30

I'm doing good thanks Kitty and still sugar free. I do have the odd glass of dry white wine which has a bit of sugar in it but other than that I am doing well. Best of luck with the op on Tuesday and will send positive thoughts your way. Looking at summer clothes on ebay is a lovely distraction although I also keep looking at winter coats as I can't believe it will ever be warm. And just to inject a bit of Britney into the proceedings, I saw her name come up in the whole Paddy McGuiness/Nicole Appleton debacle as apparently Nicole spent the night with JT when Britney was with him (or so it said in the daily mail comments Hmm Anyway I googled it and it seems that it is true - there was photos of the two of them ducking down in the back of a limo.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 16/02/2018 15:18

WHAT? JT! After he brought out 'Cry me a river' and played the victim card for Britney cheating?!

Also...Paddy McGuinness. What is it with all these men?!

Well done with your improved diet though. Sounds like things are going really well.

On a serious note, Kitty, I can't believe how brave you are being about everything. I would be a lot less composed than you have been! Have you got plenty of support in real life? Very best of luck for Tuesday Flowers.

Well Babycinno arrived on Wednesday. I'm totally in love! I am in a lot of pain though from the c section, so am mostly lying on the sofa terrified of standing up!

73kittycat73 · 16/02/2018 19:22

Thank you Wrongwayup, that's very kind of you. Smile
Hi OohOohMrPeevly, are you trying to go sugar free then? I don't think I could manage that, like my Salad Cream too much! Lol I have it on everything except breakfast. Have since I was tiny. Still craving that cake. :p Mum and me have decided that when we get weighed next month we are having a treat of a bit of Sainsburys' coffee cake each. Is it next month yet?! Lol
I used to really like Britney's songs, she's a great dancer too. Does she have anything new out?
Congratulations on the new arrival Coffee! Flowers I hope you feel better soon. (((hugs))) Is this your first child? You should be being waited on hand and foot anyway. You've brought a whole new person into the world. I hope you are having lots of lovely snuggles. Smile
I'm keeping myself busy in the day to take my mind off things. I must admit it has been on my mind a lot in the evenings. More the agoraphobia than the op. I started a thread in Chat about it last night asking for any advice. I was reassured by one lady who said she mostly slept for 24 hours afterwards. Last time I had a big anaesthetic (Spl? lol) I was the same so I'm hoping that will be the case this time.

Rowgtfc72 · 17/02/2018 09:21

Coffee, congratulations Flowers Enjoy your baby snuggles!

Kitty, wondered where you'd gone to. Sorry to hear you've not been well but sending positive thoughts for Tuesday and hoping the op goes ok. Flowers Did you mention cake............?

Tea last night was a lovely Morrison's salad. All pasta and potato not a piece of salad in sight. About a pound and a half of it. Followed by half a kingsize viennetta. And two bottles of beer. Have given dd my last bag of chocolate, think im now allergic to viennetta and have made healthy homemade lasagne for tea. Bloody food.

And the lady at work gained 5lb this week!

Anyone watch the Joe wicks programme the other night. Their weightloss was amazing.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 19/02/2018 20:35

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been away for a week, MN put me on the naughty step! Grin

Kitty - sorry to hear about your health issues and well done on the fab weight loss - that's nearly a stone and a half in a month! Incredible! I'm definitely a "cake person" too so I feel your pain. Especially when someone brings cakes into the office! Britney's last album was Glory, out about a year ago...the single was Make Me (oooh-oooh-ooooooh)

Coffee - congratulations on the new baby! Hope you are feeling ok after the caesarean. Time to relax for a bit and then lots of walks with the pram just as the spring days start!

We need to get Team Row Tshirts made to show our allegiance against Dieting Colleague (DC) You will definitely beat her!

My rambling is going well, really enjoying it. I did 9 miles on Saturday and wasn't even sore the next day!

Fuck me though a bowl of pasta afterwards can put stack on the pounds! I know it's temporary but it makes me feel icky.

I just feel like there is not enough time for everything I want to do. I'm trying to keep up with work - it's about to get really busy - trying to keep on top of stuff in the house and do food prep/shopping/exercise. Fuck knows how folk with families and long commutes do it, seriously.

73kittycat73 · 19/02/2018 21:12

Hi Chicken nice to see you. Smile Well done on your walk! (I was craving pasta the other day funnily enough.) Cake...yes...yum, lol. Might be indulging in a Thortons toffee one instead. It was on Sainsburys on line and I was going to get it for my mums' birthday (4th Feb.) but they suddenly took it off! Shock However, whilst checking out the coffee cake yesterday (I was just looking, honest. Grin ) I noticed they have the toffee cake back. Decisions, decisions. Grin
Hi Row. Smile I did watch that Joe Wicks programme. I don't know if I could keep up all that exercise! Do you watch any other weightloss programmes? There were a few on but most have now finished. However, I watch 'My 3000lb Family' on TLC and 'MY 600lb Life' on Quest Red. My TV guide says the Jow Wicks programme is pat two of two. That's a shame, I thought there'd be more.
Well, I have most things ready for tomorrow. Up at 6am then straight into a shower! Shock Got to wash with that Hibi scrub stuff. They have said I can take three Diazepam instead of two, so I really hope that works! They are also trying to arrange it so my mum can stay with me. I'm really touched she's coming, it will be a boring day for her. The op takes up to an hour and a half, then I'll be in recovery for a couple of hours (She's not allowed in there, health and safety and all that.), then hopefully I will just doze and not realise where I am. One can hope! lol So I shall say bye for now and see you all on the other side. Smile Good luck with all your goals this week.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 19/02/2018 23:33

I'll send a proper reply in the next few days, mostly because I want to know why Chicken was put on the naughty step!

For now, I just want to say a massive Good Luck to Kitty for tomorrow. I really hope it goes as well as it can do Flowers x x x

Rowgtfc72 · 20/02/2018 05:00

Thinking of you today kitty Flowers

Chicken, what did you do?!

Love watching my 600 lb life. I have the capacity to eat loads but can never see myself ever getting that big. Dont eat fried food though, kost of the people on there live on fried chicken.

No snacks yesterday and made a chicken stir fry for tea. Boy do i feel smug Halo

Wrongwayup · 20/02/2018 21:33

Kitty sending positive thoughts. Chicken who did you swear at?

ChickenVindaloo2 · 21/02/2018 21:39

Hope you are safely through the op, Kitty, look forward to hearing from you when you're up to it. Meantime, keep watching the Fat Porn (as my brother calls it!) for inspiration as to why one ought not to let oneself get to 600lbs before doing something about it!

Agreed Row - there have been times in my life I have subsisted on takeaways and junk and I have never got seriously huge. Probably I just move enough and yoyo diet enough to stay below a certain threshold. Now I'm in my 30s though, it's time to be Sensible and Stable.

Yeah, I slagged off a couple of folk on another thread. Mustn't talk about it here though or they might come on and ruin this thread too.

OohOohMrPeevly · 22/02/2018 07:02

Kitty hoping all went well - give us an update when you get chance. Still staying off the sugar and weight is going slowly down although a bit of a setback this morning when I put new batteries in my scales and found that they weight a couple of pounds heavier than the manual ones I'd been using in the other bathroom. I am waiting for husband and daughter to wake up to make them both weigh on both sets of scales and then deliver their verdicts on which ones they think are right. Coffee congrats on the new arrival and chicken well done on the 9 mile ramble. Going to try a bit of a fast day today using Charles Saatchi's 4 boiled eggs strategy (plus a bit of raw veg) as I have a lot of meals out this weekend and don't want to gain.

73kittycat73 · 23/02/2018 02:29

Hello everyone! Smile Thank you so much for the well wishes. Flowers They said I could take 3 diazepam instead of two on the day to get me there, and it worked! It's all a bit of a blur at the moment but wanted to update you all. They kept me in an extra day as my hemoglobin (Spl?) level was 57 so they gave me two transfusions. Was absolutely busting to come home and they finally let me today. Got 28 days of injections to do (To stop my blood from clotting.) and iron tablets to take, plus antibiotics. I already take 3 lots of medication for my diabetes, and two for my anxiety, I'll be rattling like a maraca! lol
Diet went out the window I'm afraid. I had toast for breakfast with jam on, and one morning I had to have a special drink as my blood sugar was to low. That drink on it's own was 300 calories! There wasn't much of a vegetarian choice. With my first meal I had jacket potato and baked beans but couldn't eat it as the potato tasted foul. In the end I gave up trying to diet there and ordered a pudding, a chocolate sponge cake. It was delicious! Grin Back on the wagon tomorrow though. Smile
Hi Row, it always amazes me on my 600lb life when they fry everything and think they're being healthy/dieting! Haven't watched Jow Wicks yet, was it any good?
Hi Coffee, hope you and baby are doing fine?
Thank you wrongway. Smile
Hi OohOohMrPeevly, I recon the right scales are the ones that say you are lightest. Grin
Hi chicken, hope you are behaving! lol Grin Love the term 'fat porn.' It always amazes me how the people on there don't loose loads of weight simply swapping full fat for lower, lighter calorie food etc. It would be really easy to loose a lot of weight fast. I suppose though it is an addiction and must be hard to change your whole life like that.
Anyway, I've rambled on enough for now. I hope you all are having a good week?

73kittycat73 · 23/02/2018 02:30

Blimey, that was long! Wink Grin lol

ChickenVindaloo2 · 23/02/2018 20:42

Woohoo! You made it Kitty! Well done! Delighted to see you and hope the toast and jam was good!

I ate some salty popcorn the other day, felt awfully thirsty and bloated, went back up to 11st 6, then today back down to 11st 4 and have been trying to subsist on salads for lunch. Fuck me I ended up hungry!!!!

Anyway, great plans for exercising are afoot for this weekend!

OohOohMrPeevly · 23/02/2018 21:54

Kitty so pleased you're out the other side and sounding chipper and don't worry about the pudding and toast and jam - under the circumstances most of us would have had the same.
Chickenvindaloo - salt makes me bloated and water retentive too. I knew a french lady once who made all of her own bread as she couldn't bear to eat any salt and was convinced shop bought bread was full of it.
