2018 - Thread 2 of Help Me Mumsnet I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/12/2017 17:17

Hi everyone,

It's the day after the day after Boxing Day, Thursday 28 December 2017!

Just over a year ago, on Boxing Day 2016, I was 14 stone exactly (My highest weight ever was 14st 5, I'm 5 foot 2 ish). So I needed to lose 4 stone just to get to a healthy weight. After a false start, I lost 3 stone, getting down to a low of 11 stone exactly through stopping binge-eating. I also went to (private) CBT therapy and started going to the gym. I had popped back up to 11st3-4 in the run up to Christmas, mainly as a result of complacency and dropping the gym visits due to the dark evenings.Having eaten more than usual and some salty foods over Christmas itself, as of this morning, I'm 11st 5. I need to lose at least 2 stone really to be a healthy weight and perhaps 2.5-3 to achieve peak gorgeousness!

(I also had £10k worth of debt, mainly on credit cards. I re-mortgaged and I now have £5k on a 0% credit card for 2 years. I've worked out I need to pay it off at £200/month)

In terms of weight loss, the general rules are to err on the side of low carb, unprocessed food. I need to get in more salad/veg and restart the gym sessions. I also need to watch portion sizes and ditch the snacks, treats and extras.

Rowgtcfc has been an amazing help throughout and I hope she will join me on this shiny new thread! Would also be delighted to see new comrades of any size, shape or "diet" plans!

I've attached a pic of me at my heaviest plus one at the end of last year.

Some of my best tips which I hope help!

  • every day is every thing. it's what you do every day over the course of a year which makes a difference. In a year, what will you wish you did today?
  • it's ok to just not eat crisps/chocolate/sweets/cakes/biscuits, easier, even, than trying to moderate
  • eggs for breakfast
  • salad and veg are your friends
  • low sugar but good fats is anti-ageing too!
  • You need less food than you think. You won't die from hunger.
  • The secret is: there is no secret. Most slim folk have to prioritise it and work at it.
  • Practice being slim. Act like you're slim.
  • Do what suits you, find your own path. Eg don't assume breakfast is vital for you.

P.S. I've now watched the first two episodes of 'fit to fat to fit'. I actually find some of the people really irritating GrinGrinGrin. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out!

Well, cut my treat days to Fri and sat. No snacks in between and trying to exercise everyday (aside from the 50 odd miles a week I bike for work)
I'm now 6lb heavier Hmm
However my jeans are looser and there's less chub rub when I walkGrin

ChickenVindaloo2 · 20/01/2018 20:22

Had a very stressful week at work. Had a few "extras" here and there. Nothing unhealthy or bingey, just too much food. I'm back up to 11st 1. And I FEEL fat.

It's ok though, it will be pass, I just need to cut back a little and keep going!

Rowgtfc72 · 20/01/2018 20:50

14.7 here this morningHmm

Figure that one out.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 20/01/2018 21:07

2.5lbs off this week. A slow start, but I'm pretty inactive. Puppy quarantine ends Tuesday so the walking will commence!

Stress is so hard to deal with when you're used to eating to cope with it. Hopefully you will have an easier week next week Chicken Smile.

Coffee just started to watch this. Some of them are awful!

Row you do a lot of exercise - do you have rest and recovery days?

Rowgtfc72 · 20/01/2018 22:10

Exercise is not really my thing. I bike 50 odd miles a week out of necessity, I don't drive, but have spdone it for 20 yrs so my body is used to it and it doesn't burn calories.

I'm on my feet at work for 8 hours. Sometimes continuously lifting stuff, sometimes not.

On a Wednesday I do 40 mins run/walk to pick the kid up from karate as I don't drive.

I may hit the punchbag on passing, skip if the ninjas left her rope out, run if the bus is late for school pick up.

I lead quite an active life but not sure any of its burning calories. I have wear and tear arthritis in a knee so try to be careful.

2.5lbs I the recommended amount to keep the weight off so doing well Kinky!

Chicken,fist bump back.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 23/01/2018 21:09

Still slightly over that 11st mark. 11st is my NEMESIS!!!!

Had been feeling a bit down tbh - work was a bit much plus the shit weather feels never-ending.

HOWEVER - exciting news today of course is that Britney is coming to the UK this summer so fingers poised to buy tickets!! That means 6 months to get to goal weight (under 9st tbh). I reckon this deadline has been set by Britney herself! So who am I to say no!

I'll probably try and go to Scarborough on 17 August and Glasgow on 24 August.

SO ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR GOAL WEIGHT BY AUGUST 2018!!

How are we all doing - it's a little quiet...are you just plugging away?

Rowgtfc72 · 23/01/2018 21:13

I'm east coast so we've heard the Britney hype all day!
I've found lots of food that "needs eating"
However, losing inches.
My 10 yr old weighs 9 stone! She's 5ft 5 though and has turned into the food police recentlyGrin

ChickenVindaloo2 · 23/01/2018 21:14

Just done my calculations - 29 weeks to go so 1lb week exactly to be just under 9st by Britney playing in Scarborough. What a weird sentence!!!!

Haha, come and see me Row!

I wonder if she will do Meet & Greet?!

Weather getting me down too. Been to lots of classes. Trying to include yoga etc. Roughly what work do you do chicken? Off on holiday Friday heading south so that will help weather wise. Will try to be stricter when I return. Hoping as that will be mid February that it will be spring!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 24/01/2018 07:21

Hey Wrong, well done for keeping up the exercise during this crappy weather (can hear the wind howling in the chimney next to me!)

I don't mind saying here that I'm a conveyancing solicitor. I've written about my job elsewhere on MN and have blown my anonymity anyway in so many ways! Grin

Have a great trip and here's to some sunlight soon!

OMG absolute LOVE for the Britney shows! So excited. I wanted to go to Scarborough but am away that weekend (which also rules out Manchester) so am seeing if some of my friends are up for a trip to Glasgow. I definitely think Britney is setting the weight loss deadline Grin. Clearly we'll all be looking fabulous by then Grin Grin Grin TBH I'll probably still be looking like Britney circa 2007

ChickenVindaloo2 · 24/01/2018 12:31

Hehe Coffee - don't know if you saw my previous posts about meeting Britney in Vegas last year?!

OP posts:
CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 24/01/2018 13:15

Omg no way! You met her? Was it the best moment of your life? Grin. I went to Vegas a few years ago for a wedding and was GUTTED to find out I was there while she had a two week break from performing. Devastated Sad.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 24/01/2018 14:04

Yeah I met her and yeah it was the best moment of my life! We shook hands (yeah I touched her) and she did an impression of my Scottish accent! I have a photo of us together and a signed poster.

🙌🙌🙌

So much jealousy here right now...

ChickenVindaloo2 · 24/01/2018 14:31

I'm not even sorry if I made you vomit! Grin

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 25/01/2018 08:08

I'm from Scarborough. Had no idea she was playing there! We'll be over at the time of year anyway, and have a chalet on the North side which is just behind the Open Air Theatre - assuming that's where she's on. Might have a sneaky evening down there. They often drive the tour buses straight along the pedestrainised sea front. That will be a good deckchair day Grin.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 25/01/2018 09:31

Arghhhhhh O2 Priority isn't working at Glasgow. This is killing me! Literally logged on at 9am when the pre-sale started Sad.

Ha ha Kinky, can't believe you hadn't heard the hype already. Definitely have a sneaky evening down there!!!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 25/01/2018 14:17

OMG Kinky! Can I pick your brain about Scarborough? I got a ticket! Should I drive down from Edinburgh? Take the train? Where should I stay?!!! Can you do a recce for me?!!!

I got a ticket for Glasgow too cos I'm greedy like that.

Couldn't get meet and greet anywhere though.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 25/01/2018 18:47

Driving should be fine but the A64 is always slow through summer as it's only got a couple of stretches of dual carriageway. I'd always be tempted to go over at unsociable times so I don't hit the queues. Obviously, if you want to chill, train from Edinburgh to York or Leeds, then Scarborough train.

Where to stay depends on budget - the Crown Spa hotel is very nice, although on the South side, but Scarborough really isn't that big and taxis are reasonable. Ox Pasture just outside town is lovely (all my wedding guests stayed there when I got married) and probably comparable in price to get taxis in, although it is a more remote location (just into the woodland on the outskirts of town). If you're driving, not a problem. I wouldn't drive to the Open Air Theatre on the night itself just because parking would be a right pain. I have no idea what they do, but I'd bet there would be a lot of queuing. It's actually really easy to walk to the theatre from the town centre - about 20 minutes if you didn't want to sit in traffic.

Unfortunately, she plays on the day I go on holiday Sad.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 25/01/2018 18:49

I would get accommodation booked, btw. It books up quick in summer anyway.

There are tons of cheap B&Bs on Columbus Ravine which is just up the road from the Open Air Theatre, would take 5 minutes through Peaseholm Park. Google them, you'll see Smile.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 25/01/2018 18:58

Can't believe you've got tickets to two concerts! I couldn't get any 😢. Well, I could get a single ticket but want to go with my mate, so it's worse than useless! Absolutely gutted. Clearly Britney is trying to avoid me, after choosing to take her two week Vegas break when I happened to be there...
