2018 - Thread 2 of Help Me Mumsnet I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/12/2017 17:17

Hi everyone,

It's the day after the day after Boxing Day, Thursday 28 December 2017!

Just over a year ago, on Boxing Day 2016, I was 14 stone exactly (My highest weight ever was 14st 5, I'm 5 foot 2 ish). So I needed to lose 4 stone just to get to a healthy weight. After a false start, I lost 3 stone, getting down to a low of 11 stone exactly through stopping binge-eating. I also went to (private) CBT therapy and started going to the gym. I had popped back up to 11st3-4 in the run up to Christmas, mainly as a result of complacency and dropping the gym visits due to the dark evenings.Having eaten more than usual and some salty foods over Christmas itself, as of this morning, I'm 11st 5. I need to lose at least 2 stone really to be a healthy weight and perhaps 2.5-3 to achieve peak gorgeousness!

(I also had £10k worth of debt, mainly on credit cards. I re-mortgaged and I now have £5k on a 0% credit card for 2 years. I've worked out I need to pay it off at £200/month)

In terms of weight loss, the general rules are to err on the side of low carb, unprocessed food. I need to get in more salad/veg and restart the gym sessions. I also need to watch portion sizes and ditch the snacks, treats and extras.

Rowgtcfc has been an amazing help throughout and I hope she will join me on this shiny new thread! Would also be delighted to see new comrades of any size, shape or "diet" plans!

I've attached a pic of me at my heaviest plus one at the end of last year.

Some of my best tips which I hope help!

  • every day is every thing. it's what you do every day over the course of a year which makes a difference. In a year, what will you wish you did today?
  • it's ok to just not eat crisps/chocolate/sweets/cakes/biscuits, easier, even, than trying to moderate
  • eggs for breakfast
  • salad and veg are your friends
  • low sugar but good fats is anti-ageing too!
  • You need less food than you think. You won't die from hunger.
  • The secret is: there is no secret. Most slim folk have to prioritise it and work at it.
  • Practice being slim. Act like you're slim.
  • Do what suits you, find your own path. Eg don't assume breakfast is vital for you.

Yay, well done Chicken! Star
Aww, Coffee, it's OK. Sometimes you just need the chocolate. Don't be too hard on yourself. (((Hugs))) We all slip up so don't beat yourself up about it. Tomorrow is another day! Flowers

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 04/04/2018 11:16

Thanks for being so kind again Kitty. I really appreciate it Smile. I know everyone has bad days, but I'm so cross with myself. There were some obvious triggers (mostly tiredness as I had been up for the entirety of two nights back to back) and in the morning I promised myself I'd stick to the diet, but by afternoon I was just mainlining chocolate Sad. I'm now back up to 13 stone, and imagine I'll gain a bit more when all that chocolate catches up with me Sad.

Anyway, how are you getting on today?

Great news Chicken, I'm glad things are going so well! Long may it continue!

Rowgtfc72 · 04/04/2018 15:19

Well done chicken Grin

Coffee, sleep is the trigger, or lack of it!

73kittycat73 · 04/04/2018 22:00

Hope you manage to get some sleep Coffee. Flowers Don't beat yourself up, I think most of us would have caved too! Just do what you can to survive until you can get back on an even keel. One thing at a time. Sometimes your priorities have to shift for a bit. Doesn't mean they can't shift back in time. Take care, I really do hope you get some sleep. Smile
Hi Row, Chicken, how are you ladies doing today? I've managed to stick to my calorie allowance the last two days (1400) and I have cycled both days too. Tomorrow will be a blip as have my nieces round all day. To many treats around...! Grin

Rowgtfc72 · 05/04/2018 18:57

Well done on sticking to the calorie count kitty. Apparently weightloss is 90% diet and 10% exercise.
My fitbit loves me. I've just got an award for doing 26 miles this week. Apart from an impromptu visit to a and e tues all I've done is work and back. It's counted my hAlfie hour there, half hour back bike ride and the fact I spend seven hours on my feet at work.
Imagine what I could do with a bit of exerciseGrin
No snacking either. Need to get over the five day hump tomorrow the the snacks and sweets are out of my system.
Weight watcher lady gets weighed tonight and I have a work medical tomorrow including weight check.......

ChickenVindaloo2 · 05/04/2018 21:16

Hey ladies! I'm riding the crimson wave at the moment so weighings are a bit unreliable.

First sunny day here for ages. Can't wait to get out of this cave of hibernation!!!

OP posts:
73kittycat73 · 06/04/2018 00:53

Hi Row, thanks for the encouragement. Smile Sounds like you are on your feet a lot! Well done on the no snacking too. Star Congrats on your award too. Good luck with tomorrows weigh in.
Hi Chicken, glad you had a sunny day. I've had my heating on one minute, then the fan, then the heating...couldn't find a good balance! lol
Well, I have been brave tonight. I brought some new undies...In a size 18! Shock According to M & S my waist size is a 24 (!) but hips are 18. For there dual sizes I'm also down as an 18. So I went on Ebay (Lol) and ordered some pants. They are coming next week. Who knows if they'll fit...Grin
Hope all you ladies are doing OK? I didn't do too badly today with my nieces around, have come in just under my calories and managed to do my 20 minute cycle ride. I hope you are all OK. Come back and talk to us anyway, we all have good times and blips!

Rowgtfc72 · 06/04/2018 04:48

Kitty my waist measures 46 in round the biggest part. That makes me a size 30 something! I actually wear an 18 Smile

Chicken we had sun too! Managed half hour gardening!

OohOohMrPeevly · 06/04/2018 06:48

Still keeping on keeping on here. I am trying to do daily HIIT with free weights at home as I've read that the more muscle you have the more fat gets burned. I am also avoiding the scales for a few days more until my TOTM is passed as although I know any increase will probably be due to that I still hate to see a higher number on the scales. I have an event next week that I'd like to look really good for so that is keeping me very focused at the moment and stopping me having a second glass of wine on an evening. Sometimes I just need a particular event or occasion coming up to give me a push - like Chicken with Britney. Coffee hope the sleep situation has improved - I suffer terribly with insomnia and it's awful because all you want is junk food the next day to keep you going. Kitty well done on the cycle ride. Anyway just psyching myself up to get up and do my HIIT........

Rowgtfc72 · 07/04/2018 06:45

Morning allGrin

Well on the 1st April I weighed 14 st 12.
Just got on the scales and it's flicking between 14 7/ 14 8. That's a definite 4lb off. I love my fitbit. It tells me at ten to the hour that I haven't done my 250 steps and off I go.
Need to up my game now. My step target is 10000, I average 12000.
Hiit is on my to do list!

Have a good weekend !

OohOohMrPeevly · 07/04/2018 07:22

Well done Rowgtfc72 - great work so far! To do the HIIT at home all you need is a kettlebell and a couple of hand weights and there are loads of instructional videos on youtube.

Rowgtfc72 · 07/04/2018 07:44

Follow the Body Coach on Facebook so thinking of trying a couple of his videos. Was looking at kettlebells the other day. What's a good weight to use? Bearing in mind I'm not a delicate little flower and lift heavy things at work!

73kittycat73 · 07/04/2018 15:01

Yay, well done for all your hard work Row, and congratulations on the 4lb! Star Well done! Thanks for the tip on sizes too! Smile
Hi MrPeevly, I get periods of insomnia too. Good luck with the weightloss for next week. Smile Hope you enjoy your event.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 07/04/2018 15:21

Hi everyone! I've just been to lidl and stocked up on eggs, salad etc etc. Going to the circus tonight randomly Grin and thinking of heading out with the ramblers tomorrow. Had hoped to get some gardening done but it's raining!

OP posts:
ChickenVindaloo2 · 07/04/2018 15:23

I HATED kettlebells when I tried it - always gave me a sore back.

I have these girly wee handweights but you might want something harder:
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0086VAYD8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

I like those stretchy band things for resistance.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 07/04/2018 15:23

Great work by the way, Row! under 14st for beginning of May???

OP posts:
Rowgtfc72 · 07/04/2018 15:29

Hadnt even thought of that chicken. Suppose there's no reason why not.Grin

73kittycat73 · 07/04/2018 20:53

Hi Chicken, enjoy the circus. Have you seen a weather forecast for tomorrow, or do you not mind rambling in the rain (I'd love that, love the rain me.)? I tried a new salad today, Asda's egg and potato. 200 calories a go. It was delicious! I've got their Mediterranean salad to try too, will have that tomorrow.
Not cycling today but managed to go to the shop instead. Haven't been since before Christmas. I did Ok. Well, better than OK as I actually did it! Grin I thought I'd struggle on the fitness side but those bike sessions must have been doing something as I felt fine, good in fact.
Hi Row, how's your weekend going? I have my nieces round again tomorrow and Monday, and my mum has bought them a ton of cakes...Must resist! I sometimes eat before I've realised it. Must stay focused and not pick, would rather weigh less! (Keep saying it to yourself Kitty, keep saying it.)

OohOohMrPeevly · 08/04/2018 07:37

I think the general consensus on weights of kettle bells is the heavier the better as lifting heavy weights is apparently one of the best things we can do to get in good shape (there is so much stuff on the net about this that's worth reading). I have been using a 6kg one which isn't that heavy but I'm going to order an 8 or 10 now to squat with etc as I have got a bit stronger.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/04/2018 08:40

Thanks for that. Tens a bit much for my knees so will go looking for an eight I think.
Can join the punch bag in the garage!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 08/04/2018 19:10

Hello! Well I stripped down to my tshirt out rambling today! Managed to get home before the (light) rain came on. 8 miles.

Then had turkey salad for dinner (and, ok, 2 icelollies! )

Kicking it!

OP posts:
CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 09/04/2018 14:14

Wahoo Chicken, that's great! I'm pleased the rambling is going well. 8 miles isn't bad either!

Good luck with the kettle bells Row. Back in the day when I was much fitter, I used to work out with kettle bells and they absolutely killed me! They were great for toning though...about the only time I could see defined tummy muscles. Well done for the weight loss BTW.

Kitty - How is it going with your nieces? Have you managed to resist the sweet treats? Well done for going shopping. That's great news that your fitness is better than you thought it was. It must encourage you to keep at it.

I'm doing ok. I was a little down as I weighed myself the other day and I was back up to 13 stone 0.5 Sad. It really knocked me, especially as it means I'm unlikely to hit my target of 12.7 by 1st May Sad. I'm down to 12.12 today, which is great news and has spurred me on, but I doubt I will hit my target as I never drop much weight quickly and I would need to lose 5lbs in 3 weeks. On paper, that sounds achievable, but I know my body and think it's unlikely...especially as my period has returned despite only being 7 weeks PP and exclusively breast feeding and that usually makes me fluctuate upwards by 2-3lbs. Anyway, I'm still going to try my hardest and am making a start by finding YouTube videos showing me how to work on my core. I can then hopefully hit the gym in the next few weeks! I've been getting loads more steps in (18,000+ the other day) so I'm slowly getting there!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 09/04/2018 18:27

I'm well fucking pissed off today. 11st 7.

Meh.

OP posts:
73kittycat73 · 09/04/2018 18:43

Hi Coffee, nice to see you back! Smile It went really well with my nieces thank you. I walked past mini Battenburg cakes so many times and didn't eat a nibble! I did eat a mint Viscount though, but did include that in my calorie allowance. Have them again on Friday and it's the little ones' 9th birthday so there will be more cake!
I don't know if it will help, but on another thread the other day someone posted this YouTube video, it's a standing abs workout:

Might be easier on the tum than floor work? Congratulations on getting back down to 12.12, that's awesome! You must have put in some hard work. Well done on all the steps too. Smile Can I ask everybody a question? When did you first see a difference in your body after losing weight? I've not really changed shaped yet, or noticed baggy clothes. However, a lady started a thread yesterday asking how she could reward herself for losing weight. A few people on there then said they didn't notice much change until about 2 1/2 stones lost, then it was immediate and noticeable. Have you been the same? How much weight did you lose before noticing a difference. I've lost 2stone 3lbs so hopefully it'll happen soon! Good luck ladies, we can do this! Grin
CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 10/04/2018 13:27

Sorry Chicken, that really sucks Sad.

Thanks for sharing that video Kitty, I'll check it out. Well done for avoiding all the cake!

I don't really know when people will start noticing my weight loss now that I'm bigger. I'll let you know! It's a bit of an odd one for me because I was pregnant (twice in 2 years) and so people obviously expect me to lose weight. When I was much slimmer, people would notice after 7-10lbs (but that was going from, say, 9 stone 10 down to 9 stone 3...so a very different body altogether!). Remind me, what was your starting weight and what is it now?
