2018 - Thread 2 of Help Me Mumsnet I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/12/2017 17:17

Hi everyone,

It's the day after the day after Boxing Day, Thursday 28 December 2017!

Just over a year ago, on Boxing Day 2016, I was 14 stone exactly (My highest weight ever was 14st 5, I'm 5 foot 2 ish). So I needed to lose 4 stone just to get to a healthy weight. After a false start, I lost 3 stone, getting down to a low of 11 stone exactly through stopping binge-eating. I also went to (private) CBT therapy and started going to the gym. I had popped back up to 11st3-4 in the run up to Christmas, mainly as a result of complacency and dropping the gym visits due to the dark evenings.Having eaten more than usual and some salty foods over Christmas itself, as of this morning, I'm 11st 5. I need to lose at least 2 stone really to be a healthy weight and perhaps 2.5-3 to achieve peak gorgeousness!

(I also had £10k worth of debt, mainly on credit cards. I re-mortgaged and I now have £5k on a 0% credit card for 2 years. I've worked out I need to pay it off at £200/month)

In terms of weight loss, the general rules are to err on the side of low carb, unprocessed food. I need to get in more salad/veg and restart the gym sessions. I also need to watch portion sizes and ditch the snacks, treats and extras.

Rowgtcfc has been an amazing help throughout and I hope she will join me on this shiny new thread! Would also be delighted to see new comrades of any size, shape or "diet" plans!

I've attached a pic of me at my heaviest plus one at the end of last year.

Some of my best tips which I hope help!

  • every day is every thing. it's what you do every day over the course of a year which makes a difference. In a year, what will you wish you did today?
  • it's ok to just not eat crisps/chocolate/sweets/cakes/biscuits, easier, even, than trying to moderate
  • eggs for breakfast
  • salad and veg are your friends
  • low sugar but good fats is anti-ageing too!
  • You need less food than you think. You won't die from hunger.
  • The secret is: there is no secret. Most slim folk have to prioritise it and work at it.
  • Practice being slim. Act like you're slim.
  • Do what suits you, find your own path. Eg don't assume breakfast is vital for you.

coffee yes I just searched for post partum core exercise routine on youtube, came up with a nice American lady and was very easy, she's actually 8 weeks postpartum after c section herself so it feels like she knows what she's doing. She is annoyingly slim though! Haha!

womble I'm with you on the little and often. I'm thinking of buying an exercise bike, my DD wont take a bottle do I cant join a gym yet!

Unfortunately my bug has set off my chronic hives so I'm in bed a swollen blotchy mess! DH has bought me chocolate and shortbread, I haven't date any yet but I haven't eaten anything at all and breastfeeding so may have some given situation.

Gutted, hate being ill xx

iamlosingweight · 07/03/2018 14:03

Hello ChickenVindaloo2 and friends, excuse me, I'm the Blush girl from the Too Fat for Frankie's? post. I just need a little help here on what diet to use. I'm thinking 'The Diet Groove' but is it going to be as good as a personalized one like '90 Day SSS' ? Do you need a personalised plan? Or what do you recommend? I like your opening advice.
Thanks, ...and I AM going to be losing weight Confused

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 07/03/2018 16:36

Awww Sib, I'm so sorry you're ill. That sounds miserable. I really hope you get better soon.

Ha ha, sorry, I don't like skinny women so I can't watch that Grin. Jokes aside, that sounds like a good starting point. I don't want to injure myself!

10,000 steps down. BOOM! It's a small step, but it's the most I've walked since the CS (actually since a few weeks before the CS).

Iamlosingweight - I just read your post and I am so sorry that happened to you. I don't know much about the diets you have mentioned, but as a general starting point I would say to just aim to cut down on the bad stuff you eat and start exercising a little bit more (even if it's tiny improvements like taking the stairs rather than the lift, cutting back on the alcohol etc). I wouldn't have thought you would need a personalised plan/expensive diet, certainly not at the start, just a few small changes to your diet and exercise. Good luck!

73kittycat73 · 07/03/2018 20:09

Hi Sib, yes, the Pepsi Max does feel like a treat doesn't it? I try to stick to two cans a day, but sometimes have three...Grin So sorry to hear you are feeling poorly, is hubby doing a good job of looking after you?

iamlosingweight, I agree with Coffee about cutting out the bad stuff and moving a little more. I'm trying to stick to the no S diet. No snacks, no seconds, no sweats I think it is, there is a thread in the weightloss section about it. Good luck. Smile

Hi Coffee, congratulations on your steps! How did it feel? I know I should but I haven't faced going out yet (I can get to my local newsagents.), too cold! And I still have to wear my anti-DVT stockings so figure I should go out when they come off next week. (Daft really because the exercise will probably do me good!) Sorry you are disappointed with the scales, the positive is you haven't gained! That's got to be a win right? Are you measuring yourself in other ways? I do waist, hips and bust. Maybe you are losing inches instead of pounds atm?
Well, I remember last night stuffing two Soreen banana bars down my throat in the early hours (I'm a weird sleeper.) and thinking what can I eat that will ruin this?! (My weightloss.) Why subconscious why?
Wow, that sounds a bit deep doesn't it? Confused Blush Grin Anyway, luckily I didn't have anything else in to binge on so stopped. I ate around 1400 calories including the bars so not too bad, though I'd like to get back to 1200 calories. Monday can't come quick enough!
I hope all you lovely ladies are doing well. Flowers

73kittycat73 · 07/03/2018 20:09

Bloody hell, I wrote a novel there! sorry. Blush

73kittycat73 · 07/03/2018 20:11

No sweets* More Blushes.

73kittycat73 · 08/03/2018 13:53

Well today I've had an (At home) eye test, and paid £45.00 for a pair of glasses! Shock They are nice though, and I suppose they'll help with the eye strain. Smile
I'm also blitzing the bathroom. The smell of bleach is in the air. lol I always forget behind the sink skirt and have had to attack it today. Not a nice job but someone's got to do it! Grin

Sib86 · 08/03/2018 19:38

Hi kitty yes DH has done a great job of looking after me and my girls, he's done everything basically.

So after 2 days if not eating (apart from Lucozade) I have dropped 8lb Shock!!! Maybe we should all get a sickness bug!!
However today was not good food choose wise, I had to force myself out of the house today because my youngest had immunisations at midday. I still hadn't eaten anything so when I came out I walked into town to kill time before picking DD1 up from school and suddenly felt so weak! So I got a cheese salad, then tonight ive had half a steak, sautéed potatoes followed by 2 pancakes with syrup! I was starving!
I'm letting myself off for this as I really needed a good feed!

I think I'm well enough to do some light exercise tonight then having an early night to try and get back to optimum health so I can continue on diet/exercise path! I am also going to revive my old myfittnesspal account to start tracking ny calories!

How is everyone today?

DiscombobulatedWomble · 09/03/2018 10:19

Wow Sib that's an excellent loss, just a shame you had to feel so rubbish for it! Hope you are back in the best of health soon 😊

Coffee good work on the steps! I stopped wearing my fakefitbit towards the end of pregnancy because it was depressing, I keep thinking I must dig it out but honestly at the moment I think it would be just as depressing!

Kitty I know what you mean on the sabotage front.. it's like if there's something in the house to eat that will make me gain weight I will hunt it down & eat it!

Well I have done rubbish on the exercise front since my reasonable start.. I've had a very clingy baby after she had her 2nd set of jabs who will not be put down. I've managed another couple of walks but that's it!

I told myself I would only weigh once a week on a Monday but I cheated & peeked thismorning.. 13st 1lb so 4lb down I'm so pleased! Wondering if I can break into 12st before Monday so fingers crossed for that 😁

I really need to take some measurements but I keep forgetting. Will endeavor to do that tonight once little pickle is asleep!

Hope everyone is doing well!

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 09/03/2018 11:25

Hey - how is everyone doing?

Chicken - Hope you're ok and haven't been banned from Mumsnet for bad behaviour again?

Kitty - I don't blame you for not going out. You'll naturally feel a bit rubbish post-surgery, and the weather's been so bad lately it's hardly going to push you out the door! As for the sexy stockings...Grin.

I think a lot of us self-sabbotage when it comes to healthy eating. I know I've done similar things. I'm really sorry. On the plus side, 1400 cals is still really low and is a great achievement!

Well done on the grim household chores as well. On the plus side, it's not only exercise but will keep your mind off eating! You've reminded me that I need to clean the bathrooms (and the rest of the house) as we have both sets of parents coming this weekend.

I haven't been taking any other measurements as I'm so bloated full stop by the pregnancy/CS. I also don't know where our tape measure has gone! I think I'll go by what the scales say and also how my clothes are feeling etc.

Sib - Great loss but I'm so sorry it's because of illness. How are you feeling now? How horrible for you. I hope the rest of the family don't get it.

Womble - I'm so sorry about the injections. Is that the 16 week ones? They were awful for DS. I remember he was in hysterics for about 24 hours. He had an awful fever and nothing would bring it down. I hope things improve soon. As for the weight loss, that's amazing! Especially considering you didn't do as much exercise as you would have liked. Hopefully you'll hit 12 stone next week.

I cheated and weighed today, even though I wanted to leave it a few days. I'm still 13 stone 3 Sad. It always makes me want to reach for the chocolate! It's crazy that when I don't lose weight/gain weight I just want to eat eat eat...but when I lose weight I get the 'high' and can quite easily diet/eat healthily. We are wired in such strange ways!!!

As motivation, we're going on holiday in 4 months. I will hopefully have no clothes (apart from one pair of maternity shorts which are super tight!) as all the clothes I'm wearing now will hopefully be too big (not to mention they're not appropriate for a sunny holiday!) yet I won't be able to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes within 4 months. I'm hoping to treat myself to a nice dress or something 'summery' so I feel a little less dowdy Smile.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/03/2018 13:09

I'm back! Briefly. Tablet died, couldnt remember password....

Lady at work had a good week and I may have eaten a whole bag of broken biscuits. Still weigh less so the last two weeks good food and exercise must still be kicking in. Have learnt my lesson. The sugar hangover was horrendous Blush

Sib86 · 09/03/2018 22:03

You all sound like you're doing well to be fair!! Well done!

womble the immunisations suck! My daughter had her second lot yesterday so know how you feel. They must be similar ages? Mines 13 weeks and a chubby cherub at 16lb 7oz! Shock. I hope you're little one recovers soon.

coffee I was the last to have the bug so thankfully looks like its left our house now! I feel much better today thanks!

Today I think ive done ok, I bought some choc for my oldest daughter and didn't eat any! But did start the day off with a costa and two sugars! But rest of the day ok I think! We shall see anyway! I will weigh again on Monday and also start measuring as some of you've suggested. I'm also going to get on my fitness pal.

I have been tempted to take some "before" photos also as a motivator! Anyone else done this? chickens are very impressive and I think its such a visual motivator!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Keep up the good work! I'll catch up with the thread on Monday!

I will be so happy if I've managed to keep the 8lb off!! Doubt it as I was probably just dehydrated! Haha!

Rowgtfc72 · 10/03/2018 07:50

Aimed for 14 7 today. Just got weighed-14 5 (almost 4!)

Have a good weekendSmile

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 10/03/2018 12:01

Well done Row.

Sib - Well done on resisting the chocolate! You're a better woman than me. I think taking progress pics will be really helpful. I think I may do the same. I took one the day before DD was born, but haven't taken any since because my body is so puffy and bruised and cut up Grin. It's certainly a good motivator if you start seeing a change.

Today probably won't be a great diet-day for me. We're going out for dinner tonight as a celebration for DD being born/various birthdays and I'm letting myself have a night off (i.e. have pizza, a few drinks etc) as I haven't been out for a meal in a year!

73kittycat73 · 10/03/2018 21:43

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well? Have moved weigh in day to tomorrow so we can have cake earlier. Grin I was feeling confident but not now...Went to take my measurements and they are practically the same as last month. Shock It's given me a kick up the bum. After tomorrow, back on it!
Hi Womble, it's amazing where you can hunt out chocolate from isn't it? lol I still have Christmas chocolate and it was out of sight (Obviously not out of mind!) but I still remembered it and found it. Blush Hope baby is now OK after the jabs? Well done on your 4lbs loss, that's really good! Smile
Hi Sib, glad to hear you are being looked after properly. Smile Congrats on the 8lb! (Though sorry for the way you had to lose it.) I have some photos I took last time I tried losing some weight. I don't know where I've put them to be honest. I think mirrors are more motivating, for me anyway. I don't have a full length mirror but my mum has so I check hers occasionally.
Hi Row, is that almost 4lb lost? Congratulations! I hope the biscuits tasted nice, lol. We all give in occasionally but hopefully that didn't impact in a big way if you still lost 4lb?
Hi Coffee how are you doing? Hope things are going Ok with all the parents? Hopefully you won't be too worn out looking after them and baby too! Are they here for Mothers Day?
I hope all you lovely ladies all have a great Mothers Day. Flowers

73kittycat73 · 10/03/2018 21:46

Sorry Coffee, didn't show your post before I posted. Hope you have a great night. Hope your body heals really soon, and don't worry about a night off! You obviously work hard at weightloss, you never know, you might kick start you metabolism like Row and her biscuits! Smile

73kittycat73 · 11/03/2018 14:20

I lost 7lb! Not bad considering I ate two cream slices last night. Blush Still have that kick up the bum though. After today of course. Wink

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 11/03/2018 15:34

Amazing Kitty! Well done 👍👍👍

73kittycat73 · 12/03/2018 00:10

Thanks Coffee. Smile How's your weekend going?

DiscombobulatedWomble · 12/03/2018 08:41

Hi all, hope everyone had a lovely mothers day! Well done on all the losses 😊

Official weigh in today and I've just made it.. 12st 13lb so a 6lb loss last week. Happy with that!

Sib DD was 14 weeks Saturday so very similar! Although we had her weighed about 2 weeks ago she was 13lbs so not as cheruby as yours.. more long & skinny! I'm actually a bit worried she's not gaining enough& I'll have to supplement with formula, will find out next week!

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend& fingers crossed for a good week 😁

Sib86 · 12/03/2018 09:35

Well done Kitty and Womble!!! I have kept the weight off (shocked as had curry and cupcakes!). So official weigh in this morning and I'm in the 12s!! 12 stone 10! I'm so motivated now!!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

73kittycat73 · 12/03/2018 19:03

Congratulations on the 6lb Womble! Was that all in one week?
Congratulations to you too Sib on getting into the twelves! Smile
When you see a loss it really motivates you doesn't it? I want to loose 9lb this month, then I will be in the twelves too. Don't know if that will happen, but I can try! Grin
Well done again ladies, sterling work.

Sib86 · 12/03/2018 19:55

I was talking to my husband last night who's a personal trainer (trust me it doesn't actually help lol)! He said my gaol of losing a stone a month is totally unrealistic! So ive reduced it to 2stone which may also be a tad unrealistic but I don't care I'm going for it now! Done ok today food wise, hopefully I can get my exercise in tonight but running behind schedule! Both my DDs are still awake!! Confused

ChickenVindaloo2 · 12/03/2018 20:18

Just popping in to say hello - don't worry I've not been put back on the MN naughty step!

Been really busy at work but off next week.

Was 11st 5 this morning bleurgh.

OP posts:
DiscombobulatedWomble · 12/03/2018 20:35

Yes kitty all in 1 week, although it was the first week I really tried which is always easier, it's keeping up the good work that's the problem! 9lbs is definitely achievable but even if you don't get there at least you're heading in the right direction.. that's what I tell myself!
