god yes, have been on and off low carb for a while.Haven't put any weight on but need to lose a few more stone so want to get back into it.
Right tomorrow back on the clark plan for me ,need to get into ketosis, tis sooo easy when I reach tht nirvana!

BonnieDarko · 22/04/2007 22:49

Sally, the rules of induction are burned on my brain in fiery letters

Haallooooo ggirl

I know what you mean about ketosis. I bought some ketostix for the first time in months last week.

Oh it's all quite emotional being back together. I've missed our ramblings.

I've been reading up on low carb in general, the various Clark plans,India Knight's book, and GI books.

I'm not actually following Atkins per se, just putting into practice everything I've learnt.

Bit pissed now, so will come back tomorrow for a fresh start, a weigh in (spurs me on), and hopefully mutual support.

how wonderful. i was beginning to think iwas the only one still doing atkins on mumsnet.
am down to 10 1 this morning. after a lull in weight loss, this is soooo good. my bmi is also down to 26. hooraah.

rules of induction.
lots of water.
meat, fish, poultry, eggs. eat as much as you like, but dont stuff yourself.
veg, i think salad is two cups, and varying veg have varying carbs. personally im at a point that i eat all veg now, though limit the carrots.
absolutely no:
bread
pasta
rice
potatos
coscous etc
fruit
alcohol
nuts
beans etc lentils etc
milk, youghurt, soft cheese

you are allowed limited amounts of hard cheeses.
unlimited butter. olive oil etc. well, within reason. dont go driking the stuff

stay away from caffeine, i went cold turkey for a while, but, three months on am now having my coffee with milk.

and of course, needless to say, no sugar
hth

Budababe · 23/04/2007 10:01

ooh ooh - can i join but start tomorrow please (as I have had toast for b'fast!!!). I did Atkins about 3 years ago and lost lots but have put it all plus more back on again.

DH also needs to lose weight and likes Atkins esp this time of year as we can BBQ a lot.

stitch · 23/04/2007 10:14

course you can buda babe, you can start right now if you like, but i would recommend stocking the fridghe first.

BonnieDarko · 23/04/2007 10:18

yay

All welcome .

I too have given up caffeine (even to the extent of drinking rooibos tea), but today, due to hangover, have just had a cafetierre full of strong real coffee

Am off now to have fillet steak for breakfast (I love this diet)

OP posts:
mumto3girls · 23/04/2007 10:21

I'd love to have a go at this but I know I will crave sweet stuff but also what do you eat as a side if you can't have pasta, rice or potatoes?

BonnieDarko · 23/04/2007 10:37

Vegetables. Just not potatoes, parsnips, carrots.

If you want to do this type of diet, please, please, please, read about it first, to understand the basic principles.

Low carbing gets such a bad press sometimes, but when you understand the hows and whys it makes so much sense. It also resembles the GI type diets in many ways.

Will cut back on the caffeine today - have only had one cup of tea so far will start on the water now. Will stock up fridge and plan my week.

Oh - blast - have a night out on Wed at someone's house! Will drive so can't drink and will eat before I go so am not tempted by anything I shouldn't have.

brimfull · 23/04/2007 10:56

Hi everyone,am back from the gym,had a good workout.
I had a piece of toast with brie this am,before you all gasp in horror it's allowed on the clark plan.I have soya and linseed bread which is the lowest carb on I could find.Must make sure I pick all those seeds out of my teeth as I have a hygienist appointment this afternoon.
Mackarel and salad for lunch I think.

Am def starting tomorrow. Just having a last carb-fest - crisps, wine and chocolate!

B'fast tomorrow will be ham and cream cheese roll-ups.

Then will go shopping and stock up on things I can have.

Talk to you all tomorrow!

BonnieDarko · 23/04/2007 21:30

Evening all.

Been suffering from hangover so haven't been eating much today;

Breakfast - fillet steak
Lunch - some cheese and an avocado
Tea - 2 lamb chops and salad

Lots of coffee, just about enough water.

I drank far too much last night and have felt rotten all day.

Am knackered now, so going to go to bed soon with a book.

Oh, Sally, Charles Clark has done a few books. I've got "The New High Protein Diet".

It's basically an english Atkins. Same principles but he allows up to 40g of carbs, and that can include one slice of preferably very grainy/linseedy fibrous bread. I used to like Bergen loaves (full of seeds),and you can get them in most supermarkets.

He's done further books on low carb and low GI. Much easier to read and understand than Atkins. His Low GI/Low Carb book allows small portions of pasta (wholemeal), new potatoes, pulses and fruit.

You can pick them up on Ebay

Morning all!

Hope your hangover is better today Bonnie Darko!

Thoroughy enjoyed by carb fest last night although DS was being a bit of a pain and wouldn't go to sleep - impossible to get him to wake up for school today of course.

Have had my ham and cream cheese roll-ups for b'fast. Am just about to have my one cup of tea that I allow myself. Will try to be really strict for the next three days - usually takes that long for the cravings to go as I remember.

PLanning an omlette with peppery boursin cheese for lunch and chicken and salad for dinner.

And water water water!

OrmIrian · 24/04/2007 09:33

Well! What a coincidence! I restarted yesterfday. Was doing oK 'eating sensibly' for about 3 weeks then it all went t*ts up. Not sure how much I put on but according to the weight when my GP weighed me I would reckon about 5lbs - an inch on hips and waist. I can't run atm because I've torn an ankle ligament so intake is more important then ever.

stitch · 24/04/2007 09:39

well done bb, the next couple of days will be hard, but youve done this before so know all about it.
i alwasy find breakfast the hardest. so sick of eggs for breakfast, and the thought of meat just isnt right. this morning i had edam cheese, cashew nuts and coffee. oh well.
what are these bread types that are possibilities. id be really interested as am a huge huge bread fan, and have really suffered these last few months.

also, why do som many peopel put weight back on. is it coz they go back to eating lots of pasta potatos etc? please tell, as i am so pleased at the weight i have lost, really really dont want to go back to beign clinically obese.

BonnieDarko · 24/04/2007 09:41

Ormirian ...the prodigal daughter returns.

Presumably the karate is out of the window too?

Thanks Budababe. Feeling all better again.

Never not ever will I ever drink again

Cup of creamy coffee (decaf) and lots of water up to now. Must go and boil an egg.

OP posts:
stitch · 24/04/2007 09:41

ouch oi, sounds painful.
what about doing some weights? also in my gym theres is a great machine, which i absolutely love that is a bit like a cycle for your arms. absolutely fab workout for upper arms and shoulders.
perhaps something like that?

BonnieDarko · 24/04/2007 09:45

Stitch, there isn't a website as such for Charles Clark, just the books.

He promotes a low carb and low GI way of eating. I'd recommend reading one of the books.

My trouble when I'm trying to lose weight is that I'm an all or nothing. I find it impossible to stick to just one slice of bread, just a couple of potatoes, etc, and find it easier to cut them out completely.

Budababe · 24/04/2007 10:55

Hi stitch - I am in Hungary so don't know if you can get in UK but we get some German breads that are basically nuts and seeds. They don't taste like bread and are much heavier but good as a base for something. I will avoid just yet but will have next week prob - the fibre is good for constipation which I remember being an issue on Atkins!!

BonnieDarko - I belive you re the drinking! Not!!! Till the next time!

Am also an all or nothing person with diets - which is why low-carb is good for me.

Budababe · 24/04/2007 10:56

Also bumping for singyswife!
