I was you last year op - 4 st overweight and borderline diabetes too.
So........Throw out EVERY bit of sugar related food you have.
Went cold turkey, and yes to the cravings for the first few days, but each time I wanted something sweet, I walked to the end of my street and back - craving then gone.
Food -
Breakfast - own made museli (oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, hemp seeds, etc of unlimited amount, topped with grated apple.
Lunch - pitta stuffed with - eg falafel, tomato, cucumber etc
Dinner - small potato/rice/pasta with lots of veg and maybe a small piece of pie, a fishcake or hotpot etc.
I don't bother counting calories or weighing anything, just used common sense. Oh, and yes to the nuts too, I found nibbling on a small handful stopped any hunger pangs for the first few weeks. I don't get those pangs anymore as my body has adjusted.
I also began to walk a fast one mile walk every other day (I now do it every day).
In that year I have lost 3.5 stone and am now no ,longer pre diabetic. Am fitter, healthier, happier and yes, I do have a sweet treat if I go out with my partner (who followed my regime with me and also lost weight) and we fancy maybe a tea n cake, and even then we share the cake.
All I've written is about my experience and not necessarily what I think YOU should do op. What I'm saying is YES, you CAN lose that weight, get fit, feel well, by doing it in the way you feel works for you.
Good luck
