My wedding dress doesn't fit!!

So I order an wedding dress many months ago and the woman in the shop told me to order the size I had tried on even though it was a little tight. I said I was planning to lose a few pounds and she said that is all that it takes. Fast forward several months and I have not really lost any weight but have toned up. I go for my dress fitting and although it zips up it is far too tight around my hips and thighs. It almost ripples...I am convinced this dress is smaller than the one I tried on but there is nothing I can do at this stage. My wedding day is two months away!! How many inches do I need to lose from my hips and thighs for the dress to skim? How much weight is that in pounds? And is it possible in two months?

I weigh 144pounds ish and am 5'6. I exercise twice a week (mainly weights and resistance training).

I am planning to cut all carbs, avoid dairy and sugar, up my cardio etc. Am I setting myself up to fail? Is it possible to do? So stressed about it...

You can lose it in two months. But don't crash diet. Up your excersise and stop ALL junk. Three meals a day...porrige, fruit for brekky...salad and lean meat or fish for lunch and the same for dinner.

Add a scoop (SMALL!) of pasta or rice to lunch OR dinner.

Make sure you drink a lot of water....if you slip up don't give up. Carry on!

Thank you!! That is pretty much what I am planning...off for a run now and then a cycle later. I was planning to have 2 eggs and avocado for breakfast rather than porridge...does that sound ok?

I also plan to drink lots of water and sip lemon and hot water rather than tea to flush out my system. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol of course!!

I think two eggs and avocado sounds quite high in calories and fat.

Avocados are great but in moderation.

I'd have an avocado once a week on it's own.

I am loving weightwatchers. They may be able to give you an accelerated plan to lose in time??? You track everything you eat so stops the hidden pitfalls like tinned mango, pecans and chocolate cake etc.

I honestly think the BEST way to avoid "hidden" danger foods is to totally stop all processed, prepackaged foods.

Nothing from tins, nothing from boxes.

It's only whole foods then...much less risk.

Obviously things like homemade cakes and sauces should still be avoided.

Watch the weights - light weights, lots of reps to tone. Heavy weights will build muscle and therefore add bulk.

For the record the wedding dress you ordered may be the same size as the one you tried on but the one you tried on had been tried on by numerous other bigger people so may have stretched slightly.

I was just coming to say that the shop dress will have been stretched.
I'd get it let out, you don't need extra weight loss stress at this stage. If there's not enough seam allowance then they can use other added material.

Then keep trying the dress on, move around a bit, sit down, have a little dance. It all helps stretch it out a little.

Mine wasn't perfect until my wedding day, combination of the right around of wearing it in, new spanx and being too nervous to eat breakfast or lunch. Good luck

Thank you so much guys...I think that I will end up having it let out, the seamstress says there isn't much material to work with but I will ask her to do what she can. I am going to stick to my diet though as I feel like I am letting myself down if I don't? My mum is very particular and is VERY supportive of me dieting. So if I don't it will be even more stressful...does that make sense?

Heavy weights will build muscle and therefore add bulk.

  1. Women don't produce enough testosterone to get "bulky"

  2. To build any real amount of muscle mass you need to go on a bulk, which is eating at a large surplus. You'd then do a cut to shed the fat gained during the bulk, therefore exposing the newly built muscle.

  3. Lower reps of heavier weights is very effective for changing your body shape.

To lose/burn fat you actually need to eat at deficit.

Thank you...your messages are a relief as I am loving the weights that I have been doing. I am eating approx 800 - 1000 calls a day, am walking my 10,000 steps daily and doing 3 runs (only 3km as I am a terrible runner), and 2 weights sessions a week. I aim to keep this up until the end of December...so hopefully I see a difference!!
