I used to eat absolute crap. Bacon sandwich every morning, cooked breakfast on a weekend, crisps and chocolate and buns, doughnuts etc and takeaways. Everything was fried and full fat. Big portions. I estimate I ate around 4000 calories per day and I ballooned up to 14.7 stone.
I have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis (idiopathic but I think my appalling diet of 28 years is to blame) so have had to change my diet (very low fat and cut out sugar) but I don't seem to be losing much weight. I have only lost 10lbs in 3 weeks. Normally big people like me lose like a stone in their first month and when I used to diet when I was younger I could lose 9lbs in my first week!
I do feel miles better however and I did tell myself I would not get obsessed with the weight loss but just get myself healthy and pain free but I just can't help it!
I have decided to throw my scales out because I get too obsessed and disappointed and just focus on how my clothes fit and how I feel.
I have a banana for breakfast at around 7am and I get home about 2pm. I don't get a break at work and have no time to eat anything on the commute home as I have to be back to pick Dd up from nursery so eat nothing for 7 hours. I just drink water.
At 2pm I have a small snack like a cup a soup and 1 or 2 slices of dry wholemeal bread or I will have a few Oat crackers and fat free cheese triangle or if I am really hungry I will have scrambled egg white and a slice of dry wholemeal toast.
Tea is usually something like spag bol made from scratch with no fat, sugar or salt and a handful of wholemeal pasta. My plate is mostly vegetables and I might have a sprinkle of low fat grated cheese. Other meals are chicken and veg with rice or a tuna salad with no dressing.
Snacks might be 2 or 3 oat cakes with choc chips in them or frozen yogurt or maybe low fat popcorn but I don't always snack.
I have maybe 3 or 4 coffees during the day decaf with skimmed milk and a sweetener. I don't use any oils to cook and cook everything from scratch. I try not to eat more than 20 grams of fat per day and try not to eat refined sugar. I don't drink alcohol at all.
I know my calories are very low but I can't afford to buy loads of fresh food twice a week to bulk up my calories and have to portion out my veg plus I have a very small freezer and can't store much in there otherwise I would batch cook and buy loads of frozen veg.
I don't exercise but I am planning on starting. I am quite active though at work on my feet all morning and then Dd and I walk everywhere and I have to chase around after her. I am going to start getting off the bus a few stops earlier and going for long walks. I have also started walking to the supermarket twice a week which is about 2 miles away. Just start of slowly and build up to more strenuous exercise.
Am I doing okay or do I need to take away or maybe add anything to my diet?
Any light exercise anyone can recommend for me to start with?
