If it's still available the Y Plan Fat Breaker video is a bit old-fashioned but easy to follow and effective. Just ignore a simpering Anthea Turner saying at the start "You won't see me again until Level 3" (because I'm thin and you're a bunch of lard-butts).

I swear by Tae bo exercise videos/dvds. You can buy different workouts, some quite basic and some much more advanced. It's a form of exercise based on kick-boxing and is very effective and great fun.

I'm a callanetics fan too, and the beginners one is easy to follow (even if I do find her a bit patronising in places!).

It seems to have fallen out of fashion now, but I like it because:
a) it puts less pressure on my back and knees than most other exercises I've tried.
b) it's effective with less time needed to get results (twice a week she recommends - I manage about once every four days which is near enough).
c) you don't need extra special equipment. I was tempted with pilates until I realised that I'd have to fork out for other stuff too.

Tracey Shaw - Salsercise. It is really good and she is quite down to earth whilst looking great. Also I love the flamenco music - it makes me want to start dancing. The only dvd/video I have bought that I want to do rather than feel I should iykwim

The seven secrets of Yoga, I love it! (need to get a new one as mine is already disintegrating)

chrissey14 · 24/07/2004 16:07

hi what,s the callanetics and yoga one about ?

neetsmassi · 10/08/2004 09:56

Anybody tried Yogalates - has very good reviews on Amazon

harrassedmum · 10/08/2004 23:27

I also love callanetics, its very gentle but effective movements that at the time seem ok, but when i go to walk downstairs after my legs nearly give way! Also do tae bo which gives you a good fat buster too. Both available cheap on ebay (just been looking for some new ones). Not a fan of yogalates, found it quite irritating, both exercises and the instructor, though its probably just me.
