2 stone (and more) to lose and looking for some support

flabby81 · 15/08/2017 21:02

Hello! I'm at my wits end and have decided to finally pull myself together and sort my health and weight out. I've put over a stone on in the past year for various reasons (stressful family situation, over-working, neglecting myself, etc) and need to now get a grip and lose that weight plus some more that's been hanging around since I had my kids.

I've half heartedly tried various diets in the past few months - low carb, slimming world, fasting but I always end up failing in the first few days and then binging out. I'm sick of this cycle and just want to actually feel good about myself.

Is anyone else in a similar boat and fancy a thread for support and accountability, maybe a thread to post what we've eaten that day, exercise and ideas to help each other out? I'm not planning any drastic diets - maybe just tracking calories to begin with so I get a better idea of what I am consuming and to get my portions under control but other than that just general healthy eating. I've already knocked the alcohol on the head so hoping that will help!

Current weight - 14 stone 6 lbs at 5 ft 6 in - I'm horrified at myself even writing that!

Hi Sort! I remember that feeling. It can be really hard with small babies/children.

Katkin - I would love some new ideas as well.

So far, we have:

  • drink water and brush teeth
  • make sticks/crudites as soon as you have bought the veg/fruit
  • eat a piece of fruit
  • I drink herbal teas as a snack
anymore?

And as I have you thinking about food, is there anyone with a favourite veggie tea/dinner recipe? I am OK as long as I have a good meal to look forward to that or wine.

Hey Chicken

So made it to a toning class this morning, diet still poor though.

I find the below are good for that late afternoon energy slump.
Apple with a piece of cheddar
Oat cakes with some nut butter
Boiled egg

chickensarethebest · 23/08/2017 08:04

One thing at a time - so, Sort, you are on top of the exercise and thanks for the tips.

Oddly enough, my late afternoon slump has gone since I started dieting and I think it might be my sugar intake is better regulated. Will test my theory for you all tomorrow - out having cake.

Snacks:

  • drink water and brush teeth
  • make sticks/crudites as soon as you have bought the veg/fruit
  • eat a piece of fruit
  • herbal teas
  • Apple with a piece of cheddar
  • Oat cakes with some nut butter
  • Boiled egg

How is everyone else doing? Falling off the scales allowed. Bad days, good days. Come and share. I watched Jamie Oliver's new show - my own form of torture but liked his quick bread and almond tart. Will make one and avoid the other.

OhOfCourse · 23/08/2017 19:30

@Mulch

Joined a gym (been swimming laps three times this week) and watching what I've been eating via MyFitnessPal. I have 4 stone to lose so long journey 😭

Oh gosh I've just check in on this thread and so pleased at all the replies! Last week ended up being manic for me as I suddenly had to go away for a few days with work. Weighed myself when I got back and I actually put ON a pound!!!

So that's a starting weight of 14st 7lbs for me. My weigh in day is going to be Friday, just to give me a little bit of room to have a drink and some nice food at the weekend!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Well, I weighed in on Monday-not good. It seemed that I'd actually managed to put on 2lbs, rather than lose! I was about to get very annoyed and dejected about it, but then I decided that it's probably all the eating out and rich food which I've been having since July still catching up on me. We've had a summer of going on day trips, having friends to stay (and eating much richer meals at home than usual as a result) and more get-togethers and occasions than usual this year. To top it off, we're going on holidays next Tuesday for twelve nights...
So, I'll continue to walk, and try to up the water intake, but I think I'll have to be realistic about the pounds starting to come off properly until September 11th onwards!
Best of luck to everyone here. You all seem to be doing really well, so I'm going to continue to read, and use your achievements as the spur to not go totally overboard while on holidays.
Next Monday will be my last chance to weigh myself before we go away, and I'm hoping that I might see a tiny downwards shift on the scales before I go on holiday!

Procrastination4 · 28/08/2017 11:46

Weighed in this morning, and 2lbs down. It's a start!

OhOfCourse · 29/08/2017 20:59

Well done @Procrastination4 !! Halo

OhOfCourse · 30/08/2017 09:09

Argh i lost nothing this week Confused why isn't there a crying emoji. Please give me words of encouragement ...

chickensarethebest · 30/08/2017 11:47

Hello OP!

OhOfCourse - the short term losses help but it is actually the long term stuff that is going to make the difference. It was bank holiday - did that throw you? Overall, you are still losing, aren't you? Have you taken measurements, too and have they started to change? WW gives you a graph - loved the visual support.

I am pleased I am still here - normally, by now, I would have given up and be eating extra because I might as well. I lost a pound so now have exactly 2 stones to shift. I need to add the exercise in - next on my list. It is fine to wobble - I had another day when I managed to eat my way through all my week's points: started by eating pudding. I now have to work out how to include desserts into life, rather than let them kick start a binge.

Well done, Pro'! I think that is my target for this week.

aurorie11 · 31/08/2017 20:54

Can I join in?
This time last year I was 14 stone, just after Christmas I was 11 stone and maintained, but has increased to 12st 4lb recently due to a number of factors. But need to put this behind me, I'd like to be 10st 7lb by Christmas and then get closer to 9.

OhOfCourse · 05/09/2017 16:19

Checking in with another 2lbs lost! Yay. Better progress than last week Grin

OhOfCourse · 05/09/2017 16:19

Hi @aurorie11 welcome!

chickensarethebest · 05/09/2017 18:48

I lost 1.5 and the best thing was one pair of trousers already feels better Grin.
Hi aurorie, what worked last year?
Still thinking about exercise - which doesn't really count! Oh - you're swimming aren't you? What is everyone else doing?

OhOfCourse · 05/09/2017 19:04

@chickensarethebest yay you! Flowers

chickensarethebest · 08/09/2017 10:08

Thanks - Oh - they are my first flowers ever on MN and I have been here for years Smile.
Did you weigh in OP?

chickensarethebest · 10/09/2017 09:29

I have lost 3 more pounds Grin - so, overall that is 9 pounds since I started. I am starting to feel like a smug-dieter and could turn into a diet bore if I am not careful.
Still haven't got the exercise sorted and the next big challenge of going away for the weekend. In the past, as soon as I socialise, I give up and then, can't start again. I am now in the band of weight that I have lost and put on numerous times this year, so wobbly grounds ahead.
So, how are you all? Please give me stories of losing a stone. What motivated you?

OhOfCourse · 10/09/2017 09:42

Amazing! @chickensarethebest massive well done!

I'm really worried for this weeks weigh in as have new puppy and we've been in all week and not exercising 😞

chickensarethebest · 10/09/2017 10:15

I actually brought the weigh-in back to my original day because I loathe them so much. Previously I definitely fooled myself I was eating less and well and then, got totally discouraged when I didn't lose weight or indeed had put it on. I know this week's loss is largely down to where I am in my cycle but I am holding to the overall downward trend and not expecting anything this time next week.

What puppy have you got? How is he/she? OK - right now that means less exercise, but long-term you are sorted. I am off now to walk my two - the health benefits of pets is huge. Saying that, I had to get out of my bath this morning and go stop a chicken shouting; I was dripping foam but it was too early to upset the neighbours Smile.
