Tomorrow I quit sugar

OuchBollocks · 06/08/2017 17:29

I am OuchBollocks and I am a sugar addict. Not for me one square a day or a frozen curly wurly to take the edge off, no. I have it, I eat it, I want it more.

Last year I quit sugar for New Year, and stayed off minus one or two teeny slips until I got pregnant with DS, then being off alcohol and caffeine combined with the summer heat made the lure of a cold Fanta too hard to resist. Then I broke my leg and was bed bound and in pain and people brought chocolate to the hospital, and the meals all came with dessert, and then I had DS and more chocolate, then Easter and more chocolate, and although I've managed to drop a dress size so far with the 5:2 diet I need to jack in the white stuff. I am going to Ibiza in September '18 and I want to feel confident.

God help me,it's going to be hard. The rules are:
No sweet drinks, including artificial sweeteners
No chocolate, sweets, icecream, cake, sorbets, pastries, jam, marmalade etc etc
No crisps
Read labels of sauces carefully to check sugar levels.

I will update this thread for my own personal records. I am going to kiss sugar goodbye with the slice of cheesecake that is waiting for me after dinner. Goodbye sugar, it's been fun :(

Definitely! That's great!

I am finding also that if I'm eating because I'm bored or sad or feeling worthless, just because I'm not eating sugar doesn't make that kind of eating a good plan

You are so right. And please don't stop with the armchair psychology, it's one of the reasons I love MN Smile Sorry you're having to cut your holiday short Sad Pastries and wine sound so good! Safe journey home.

I've done well today. Couscous salad, breadsticks and hummus for lunch. Chicken Caesar salad with a bit of foccacia for dinner. Nipped to Aldi for some full fat Greek yoghurt, chia seeds and linseeds. Will have a bowl of it later with some blueberries and blackberries. Prob when watching Game of Thrones (I usually have wine and sweets, so its an improvement). Dodged Apple juice and chocolate buttons today.

Have had a mild headache all day, despite drinking lots of water. Do we think it's withdrawal? I'm still having fresh fruit so thought I'd be ok.

OuchBollocks · 14/08/2017 20:29

That is a good day. I had proper porridge for breakfast, hard boiled eggs, corn cakes, cucumber sticks and strawberries for (picnic) lunch, rojan josh with brown rice and lots of spinach for dinner. I resisted the most amazing looking chocolate cake in a cafe when I stopped with DD - she had a small lolly but then she had been running like a maniac for 3 hours! And I had a cup of tea.

I discovered a really nice low sugar granola today that made me think of you guys. The brand is Lizis and it's pretty delicious. Loads of nuts so quite high in calories but really nice healthy ingredients (no crap) and 4% sugar.

I've been having mine with Greek yogurt and raspberries!

GoingRogue · 14/08/2017 22:32

humanfemale ooh where did you find it please? Love a crunchy breakfast!

honeyroar · 14/08/2017 22:56

That granola sounds lovely. I'd be interested to know where you find it too. I struggle with breakfasts.

I'm home now. Hardly ate on the plane as was run ragged by some horrible rude passengers! My uniform has gone loose again (I'd noticed a bit of bloating just starting after my five weeks off piste!). I'm hopeful the scales will go down soon and I'm back on the wagon. I'm off for 10 days now, so can be more in control.

humanfemale · 15/08/2017 06:52

I got mine from Sainsbury's in the online shop and have seen it in Waitrose too 😊

GoingRogue · 15/08/2017 07:55

Thanks human Smile Might be an excuse to go to Waitrose for a treat.

Anyone else waking in the night with hunger pains/headache? I keep waking once or twice then not being able to go back for 30 mins or so, due to being so hungry. Happened last night even though I had a bowl of thick yoghurt, seeds and berries at 8.30pm.

honeyroar · 15/08/2017 08:40

GoingRogie that doesn't sound nice. Are you eating enough generally, do you think?

GoingRogue · 15/08/2017 08:53

honeyroar I eat loads! Grin Just used to having a 10pm bowl of cereal. I'm hoping the hunger waking won't last too much longer, and is just my body adjusting to less food (I was having too much).

Sorry to hear about rude passengers the other night Angry I cannot understand why anyone would mistreat airline staff. I regard them in the same way as security guards, police and doctors; they're there to ensure my safety and well being.

Did you manage to avoid the chocolate at work then? Well done!

honeyroar · 15/08/2017 10:03

Rogue it sounds like you just have to get that late night sugar fix out of your system. Could you have your berries and yoghurt later? I often do!

(Passengers were in first class and used to having staff that ran around after them.. They were just returning from a cruise where they'd have had a personal butler each. I think they thought I was their onboard butler! Trouble is they weren't British and I was the only one that spoke their language, so got lumbered with them. On a good note, they scoffed all the chocolate, so that helped!)

Hopefully I'm back in the room. This thread has been great, it's good to have like minded people to talk to. There have been a couple of other threads this year, but they petered out (or I bored everyone!😳).

Cantseethewoods · 15/08/2017 11:51

I think it's more that people fall off the wagon and then slink away from the thread in shame, rather than using it as a running board to jump back on said wagon!

OuchBollocks · 15/08/2017 12:44

Anyone who falls off the wagon - just say so. This is a shame-free wagon and we can hold the horses til you leap back on :)

I had a huge dirty fryup this morning, I can hardly move haha. I did fancy a coke with it but had a tea. Luckily it was a very late breakfast, practically lunch, so if I don't snack and have the nice salad I had intended to have for lunch at dinner then the day won't be a disaster calorie wise. And there's no sugar in a fried egg.

honeyroar I have a good friend who is cabin crew. Hats off to you, it's a tough gig. goingrogue you should hear how some people talk to security, doctors and police! I'm a police officer and the abuse I've taken in the last 12 years... sigh. Not looking forward to mat leave ending. Plus my uniform trousers are rather unforgiving.

honeyroar · 15/08/2017 17:50

Ouch I take my hat off to you more, my ex was police, and he took way more abuse than I ever do! (To be fair, I don't really get abusive passengers, most are lovely, just some are entitled and demanding or a bit rude).

I've just booked a holiday in 28 days time, so that's something to focus on.

TheChampagneGalop · 15/08/2017 18:28

Day 19 here. Ordinary food tastes so satisfying now.
And yes it's all about breaking those habits! I went to a cafe´with a friend and only ordered a Brew, it felt empty without a biscuit with it...they had no healthy options though.

GoingRogue · 15/08/2017 20:47

honeyroar I didn't have my fruit and yoghurt straight after dinner. Going to have it around 9.30 and hope I don't wake hungry in the night.

Wow re: people having their own staff/butlers. How the other half live eh?! Where are you off in 28 days time?

Oh, and I'm a bugger for being a thread killer so will apologise now! I'm sure you didn't bore anyone Smile

OuchBollocks I have so much respect for the police. I was staff for 6yrs. Going back after mat leave is never easy. You still have a little while?

My day was ok, but I am missing my evening treats. Might have some red wine on the weekend and look forward to that.

B: porridge with berries and seeds
S: Apple
L: Chicken couscous salad, a couple of crackers and smidgen of cheese. Accidently had a bit of 3yo's orange Calippo and a few sips of flavoured water (am trying not to have sweeteners and it had aspartame) but it was hot and I'd run out of water.
D: Chicken and prawn stir fry, rice.
S: full fat Greek yoghurt with berries, banana and seeds.

Littlepig8834 · 15/08/2017 21:00

Today I have had:

B: alpro yoghurt with almond
L: boots shapers chicken Caesar salad
D: vegan burger with salad followed by soya yoghurt with blueberries and a smidge of macadamia butter

Snacked on veg sticks (celery/green pepper)

Had a meeting at work which had tea and biscuits, just had a cup of tea, minor victory to me!!

honeyroar · 15/08/2017 21:44

GoingRogue we're going to Scotland in the caravan, so nothing glam, but it's holiday for me to not get on a plane! We're staying on a tiny site right on a little sandy beach, and will be just chilling and taking the dogs for walks.

Today Ive had -

Late Breakfast - Fruit and Fibre (not good, I need to sort breakfast, I got bored of porridge)

Lunch/daily snacks - 2 bananas, 1 Apple, grapes in Greek yoghurt.

Dinner - pea, tomato, red onion and Feta frittata.

Now - grapes and yoghurt again!

Welcome home Gravity!

GoingRogue · 15/08/2017 22:17

Littlepig8834 your food sounded good! Well done for biscuit dodging at work. I managed to not have ice-cream at the park today, despite my sister and all three of our children having one. Little wins! That's the second time in three days I've not had ice-cream (And I bloody love the stuff).

honeyroar a caravan in Scotland with the dogs sounds lovely!

Welcome home Gravity...your French accommodation sounded...different?!

Cantseethewoods · 16/08/2017 04:50

OMG Gravity- that's terrible. Can you get a refund? We rent out our UK home as a holiday let and I'd be mortified if anyone left early.

Honey I think you guys must have the patience of saints. Also, is it true that you work with different people every time so you start every flight with a new boss/ as the new boss?

littlepig was your vegan burger one of those new soy types that genuinely look and taste like meat? I really want to try one but they're $$$$$ in Asia at the moment.

Ok day for me yesterday

B- 2 hard boiled eggs and a soy latte
S- 70g salted almonds
L- egg and cress sandwich after the gym
D- vege noodle soup - it was nice but not enough protein/ v white carb heavy. I do love a noodle though.
S-banana

Took my DC to swimming lessons and didnt have my usual glass of wine with the other mums (which is frankly a terrible habit at 4:30pm!). I should add the lessons are outside at a country club pool with loungers etc. so the atmosphere lends itself to a cheeky wine more than the local indoor pool where it would look v odd Grin, but still...

Also didnt have an icecream with the DC. Now they're old enough to go up and get them themselves it helps as I dont find myself saying "actually make that 3 cornettos"
