Week into diet - no weight loss. How to keep motivated?

I have 2 stone to lose and started a week ago. I was being really strict. Went from drinking every evening and snacking as well as having a large late dinner to eating only 3 meals, with larger healthy breakfast, healthy lunch and small dinner. Have had a gym session, 2 swims and yoga session. Basically a decent amount of exercise each day and have resisted snacking in the evenings. Ive gone to bed hungry each night and haven't lost weight. Was expecting to have lost around 4 lbs.

How do people stay motivated?

I will add that I did have a later dinner with DH last night and shared a bottle of wine but up until a week ago that was what I did every night! Ate something heavy going at 8 pm with wine every night and I was so motivated to change. Didn't think a weekend cheat day would derail the whole diet.

Ive literally had a bowl of homemade soup and handful of cherry tomatoes for dinner and feel like what's the point?!

Morning todays plan
Porridge with banana and raisins for breakfast
Roast veg and chickpeas for lunch
Lentil ragu, pasta and salad for dinner
Might do some stretching but have a cold so dont know if Ill make a workout video today

goteam · 18/07/2017 08:47

I don't eat eggs, owlina! I know omelettes would be easy, quick and healthy. DH always has them.

Are you veggie, Rainbow? Guessing so from your posts.

My breakfast was granola with chia seeds and almond milk with a piece of whole meal toast and orange juice.

Planning mid morning coffee.

Lunch will be giant couscous with roast aubergine, sundries tomatoes, fresh herbs and lemon tahini dressing with strawberries after and water to drink.

Dinner will be veggie chilli with a few potato wedges (would prefer sweet potato but kids won't eat those ame have potatoes from the garden) maybe a small amount of cheese. This will be eaten at around 6 and nothing after. Will try to go to the gym / run / yoga kids permitting.

Hi goteam I'm not vegetarian but I do find meat too much in summer and a bit gross so cook a lot of vegetarian meals. Your meals look quite vegetarian too. Have a good day.

goteam · 18/07/2017 08:54

Oh and I weighed myself this morning and I do appear to have lost 3 lbs.

I am veggie, Rainbow. I'm not changing what I eat really, just portion size, less cheese, no takeaways, no crisps, very little chocolate and limited booze. My home made main meals have always been quite healthy but dinner eaten too late, with too much wine and without enough exercise!

Have a good day too. Planning picnic in the park with kids so should be quite active.

Well done OP! Never weigh after a night off as the carbs and wine add lbs.. I put on 5lbs every time! It comes off in the next day or two though. I reckon you'll be at your target end of August/mid sept.

Rainbowflower24 · 18/07/2017 09:19

3 lbs! Great news. Well done.

goteam · 18/07/2017 09:30

Thanks both. Yeah, I think it will be more like mid sept for target but that's fine. As long as I'm feeling that I'm on the right track and clothes fit a bit better for my holiday!

AceholeRimmer · 18/07/2017 10:39

Exactly... reaching the target will be ace but you will feel good along the journey!

Rainbowflower24 · 18/07/2017 19:20

Good evening. Breakfast and lunch went to plan. Dinner just wasnt ready in time- so we had pasta, pesto, mozarella with salad. The lentil ragu Im finishing now so will have that for dinner tomorrow and freeze some . Im not going to do any stretching. Feeling coldy and grumpy so will drink camomile tea and go to bed early.

goteam · 18/07/2017 21:10

Hope you feel better tomorrow, Rainbow.

I ended up having the chilli with wedges and a small amount of cheese front lunch.

Had a plum at around 3 pm and a 40 min pre dinner swim.

Dinner was slight change of plan. A pitta, spinach, almond and red onion salad with dates. It's a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe.

I am having a gin and tonic now which is admittedly off plan but have had a healthy day, no snacks, plenty of exercise but full on with kids!

During my first 2 weeks of healthy eating I actually put on weight - shocking I know but I did. I figure my body went into shock at the dramatic changes and was adjusting. Week 3 I lost 5lb just like that and it's been coming off ever since. I've lost 2.5 stone so far in 8 months. Going from a size 16 to a 8/10. I've found walking from work home helps as well. And going gym.

I did use raspberry ketones in the early stages and make sure I get enough of everything.

I also allow myself something if I crave it consistently for a couple of days but will only have a small amount- so chocolate for example I will buy a small bar or a can of coke not a big bottle and a multipack which would have been gone by 11 am before

Rainbowflower24 · 19/07/2017 12:41

Hello. Thanks goteam i am feeling a bit better

Todays plan

Breakfast -boiled egg, bread with peanut butter, fruit
Lunch - pasta, kidney beans, ham, cheese, cucumber, tomato, nectarine
Dinner - lentil ragu and spaghetti with salad.

Quite carb heavy but small portions of bread and pasta are better for me than having none. Will go easy on the spaghetti tonight.

Rainbowflower24 · 19/07/2017 12:41

I suppose I better weigh myself at some point - maybe tomorrow morning

goteam · 19/07/2017 18:03

Not a great day here.

Breakfast was granola with almond milk, coffee and marmite on toast with orange juice.

Lunch was a soft play centre (raining) and veggie options were dismal so I had a cheese and tomato panini with potato wedges. Didn't eat It though. Had apple juice to drink as no water on sale and forgot to take any.

Meeting friends in an hour with no time to eat beforehand and looking ahead at the menu, it's pretty dismal options. Will keep drinks to minimum.

It's hard with kids and when it's a sociable time of year. No snacks today though but not a lot of exercise either due to the weather.

goteam · 19/07/2017 18:03

I meant I didn't eat it all!

OP posts:
Rainbowflower24 · 19/07/2017 21:38

Ha. I understood what you meant. Smile
Tomorrow is a new day. Lets keep going. You are right about it being a sociavle time of year. Ive got two appointments this weekend which usually involve cake. At thw inlaws its a party so can probablu get away with sharing a small piece with dd but letting her eat it and looking busy the rest of the time so no one questions why I Am not partaking of the bbq meat fest. Theres never enough salad though. I might take one as well as the cake Ive been asked to do. Andbwith friends I think ill just tell them id prefer not. Theyll understand.

Rainbowflower24 · 20/07/2017 23:29

Evening. I ate so badly today, Im embarassed to write it down. Tomorrow is a new day.

Ollivander84 · 20/07/2017 23:50

I'm using an app and weighing daily. Might sound weird but bear with me! Your weight fluctuates daily so take 7 days and pretend the starting weight is 200lbs (obviously this would be over a longer period of time in real life!) and you weigh on day 1 and 7 only

Day 1 200
Day 2 200
Day 3 199
Day 4 200
Day 5 198
Day 6 197
Day 7 201

So you weigh on day 7 and go "FFS I've put on 1lb!!!" But you haven't because if you had weighed on day 6 you would be over the moon and lost 3lbs
So I downloaded an app, and started using it and I'm amazed how much I fluctuate but it has a graph so you can see the overall trend is down

goteam · 21/07/2017 10:54

Sympathy rainbow. Same here. It's the hardest time of year to lose weight butthe time of year when we realise we need to.

I am hoping to do better today it but having a country outing where once again veggie options are unhealthy in the only pub.

I have sort of come to terms with the fact that you body shape has changed since having kids though. I am gonna take all my size 10 skinny jeans etc to a charity shop as that is no longer my body. I just want go be a healthy size 12. I am a 12 but want to lose weight anyway as over 11 is too much for your height.

My weight I mean!

That's interesting Oliver. I guess it's a long game with hurdles along the way!

OP posts:
Rainbowflower24 · 21/07/2017 14:35

Im down to 77kg from 78kg. Maybe just fluctuation but im taking it

goteam · 25/07/2017 20:32

Had a rubbish few days (not previous levels of rubbish but rubbish for a diet!) Back on track today, although a pound has crept back on. My clothes, particularly trousers are beginning to fit better so while my weight is plateuing I think I'm losing a bit of the belly fat. Still hoping to lose a couple more pounds by the end of the month.
