What's a realistic amount of weight to lose in five weeks?

I'm going on holiday in five weeks and dreading wearing a swimming costume.

I work out three times a week doing a mixture of weights and badminton.

My eating habits aren't the best and my position sizes are probably on the large side.

Does anyone having any tips on how to curb my appetite and is six pounds an achievable amount of weight to lose in five weeks?

Thank you

I would say half a stone.

Mooey89 · 09/07/2017 20:43

How much is achievable depends on how much you weigh now- if you are 7lbs overweight total, it will probably take longer than if you have 5 stone to lose, you know?

Have you tried 5:2?

Achoopichu · 09/07/2017 20:44

Why not try the app my fitness pal? Every day I log my calories it tells me what I will weigh in 5 weeks if I eat those calories every day.

annandale · 09/07/2017 20:44

Yes, it's very achievable. Go onto myfitnesspal and be precise about your amounts - might have to weigh things initially. Opinion varies about how many 'exercise' calories you can eat, i aim to eat about 10% of what the app tells me i have burned.

I would do a bit of toning too, maybe pilates and /or pressups.

I'm also going on holiday in 5 weeks and aiming for 10lbs. Largely to give myself some slack to gain on holiday!

It's probably not achievable given that I have my birthday, DH's birthday, a weekend camping and umpteen other things in that time but that's what I'm aiming for.

I am just going to cut sugar, reduce carbs and alcohol and make sure I stick to 1200 cake a day on MFP.

Kr1stina · 09/07/2017 20:56

That amount of exercise will not compensate for a bad diet, sorry.

You need to eat better.

chaz777 · 09/07/2017 20:56

Thank you everyone..some great tips!

I wanted to get back to my pre baby weight if I can which is 6 pounds less than I am now. My main problem area/dislike is the tops of my legs. My shape is ok but I have a lot of cellulite. The weights I'm going is helping but has anyone else tried anything that's helped them improve their cellulite.

Thanks again x

Yes, you are right. I do need to concentrate on improving my diet. Will have a look at some apps/websites for some meal ideas

Grin Unfortunately 1200 CALS of cake doesn't go very far!

getahellyeah · 09/07/2017 22:28

1200 cake Grin FUCK YEAH

Best diet ever.

lorelairoryemily · 09/07/2017 22:31

I started Herbalife on Thursday and I've lost 6lbs already.... It's brilliant!

GooodMythicalMorning · 09/07/2017 22:33

Smaller plates help

Movablefeast · 09/07/2017 23:59

Eat lean protein with veggies the protein will stop you feeling hungry. Have a high protein meal replacement for breakfast and 2 meals as described. Drink lots of water. Stick between 1200-1400 calories. Exercise at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes or more. Brisk walking is great anything that gets your heart pumping fast.

Really? This has never worked for me; I think I must be doing something very wrong - although I am old, and find that one evening out, with 2-course meal and wine, now puts on a kg overnight. Fucking depressing.
What's Herbalife Lorelair? I didn't think pills etc. were supposed to work.

Sorry I'm hijacking op; you probably will lose six pounds in that time if you stay focused.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 10/07/2017 08:23

Ih, it's meal replacement.

PickAChew · 10/07/2017 08:25

Herbalife is MLM nonsense.

6lb in 5 weeks is very achievable by cutting out refined carbs and sensible portion sizes.

AceholeRimmer · 10/07/2017 08:28

I've lost 1 stone 8lbs in the last 5 weeks low carbing but I have a few stone to lose!

notarehearsal · 10/07/2017 08:36

I've been eating sensibly and cut down on booze since January. I eat low carbs and very little sugar. It's still taken me this length of time to lose 1 1/2 stone. I'm near my target now but was terribly disappointed it didnt just fall off!

lorelairoryemily · 11/07/2017 00:02

@Agoddessonamountaintop Herbalife is a meal replacement programme, 1 shake a day, aloe Vera drink, fruit tea, and 2 healthy balanced meals. A friend of mind started it 6 weeks ago and has lost over 2 stone, it's easy to follow, and before anyone accuses be of selling it I don't! I just bought it, I'm a hairdresser!

revolution909 · 13/07/2017 07:52

Count calories (1200 - 1500) and exercise a lot more. Worked for me!

AdalindSchade · 13/07/2017 07:53

Why don't you do low carb bootcamp for 6 weeks? Threads are under weight loss and there is an instruction spreadsheet at the top of every chat thread.

Kr1stina · 13/07/2017 10:22

As someone said upthread, if you have a few stone to lose it will come off easily at first. As long as you balance inputs and outputs.

If you only have half a stone to lose then you are probably a healthy weight and just want to lose it for the sake of appearances (nothing wrong with that !!) so it will be very tough to get rid of it .

Sorry
