Treadmill preferences?????

coggy · 23/03/2007 21:04

DH has decided that in the duty of encouraging me to get fitter we ought to buy a treadmill ......I need to act quickly(ish) before he changes his mind!

Any particularly good ones recommended?
Or any to definitely avoid?

At the moment I'm looking at a York one in Argos that is reduced by £180 but it only has a top speed of 10kph......not sure if that is a running or jogging-type speed???

Any help gratefully received.

i walk at 5.2 kmph on th treadmill..so it is definitely jogging

moondog · 23/03/2007 21:08

I wouldn't bother.
You will not use it.
Get out running or go to a gym
(I jog at 9-9.5 km an hour.)

Rubbish! I use mine 3 times/wk. It's in front of the tv so no excuses. An eliptical trainer & I love it.

dinny · 23/03/2007 21:21

hmmm, tempted to move my elliptical into living room - does it take up all the room, sauce?

coggy · 23/03/2007 21:25

There seems to be an either love 'em or hate 'em thing about home gym stuff.
I am sure that I will use it......but then again...I do have rather alot of not-very-well-used exercise DVDs!!!

I find running outside really hard as I set off too quickly and am knackered after a minute!
At least I can pace myself with a treadmill..............???

Eeew at the thought of steaming up yer house with sweat.

sauce · 23/03/2007 21:39

I'm not steaming up house as eliptical thingy is in the attic! along with telly - excellent idea, btw

moondog · 23/03/2007 21:57

Going to gym/out running is my social life so serves double purpose.
Without it would see noone for pleasure.

sauce · 23/03/2007 21:59

Good point. But we live in the middle of nowhere & although the countryside is beautiful, I find running hard on my knees & extremely boring.

moondog · 23/03/2007 22:01

Y'see,I tohught it would be but i really love it now.
I have a 20 0dd mile cycle track which runs past the fileds at the bottom of our garden so i get someone to drop me a few kms away, crank up led Zepp on my iPod and am away.

No cars.just fields, sheep, birds and glorious view over Anglesey and Snowdonia.

coggy · 23/03/2007 22:03

Sounds fab......don't you get put off though in the winter when it is naff weather?

zippitippitoes · 23/03/2007 22:04

moondog don't you feel scared though

moondog · 23/03/2007 22:05

I hate being cold but have decided I have to face what I hate head on,so step out there in a t shirt and brazen it out.

Running when cold makes you go faster and the zing! when you get home is incredible.

i haven't had a run in about 10 days and feel really down.
Am going tomorrow and know it will perk me up no end.

moondog · 23/03/2007 22:05

Scared of wot?

Sheep?

sauce · 23/03/2007 22:11

Since when are you in Snowdonia? What happened to Turkey?

iPod makes a big difference & totally agree about the rush from the zing!

zippitippitoes · 23/03/2007 22:12

being on your own

Beetrootccio · 23/03/2007 22:13

i have a cross trainer - it is great adn takes upless room

moondog · 23/03/2007 22:13

lol Zippi.
I am on my own for a huge proprtion of the time so with the sheep at least have some company.

We have packed up and left Turkey sauce.
Dh is now working in Tajikistan and I am back in our permanent home in Wales working and doing an MSc.

sauce · 23/03/2007 22:19

Well, that must be a relief. To be home, I mean. Your dh was often away, if I remember but Tajikistan? And doing the MSc is why you're not around much anymore?

moondog · 23/03/2007 22:53

Yes Sauce.
(Although still spending too much time on here \i think..)

zippitippitoes · 24/03/2007 07:04

I meant on your own out in the countryside not on your own living wise

dinny · 24/03/2007 11:13

ellipitcal users - how long do you do and how often?

sauce · 24/03/2007 17:34

3 times per week (every 2 days) for 40 mins with hr between 125 & 145.

mckenzie · 24/03/2007 17:46

if you do decide to buy one, check out Ebay. We bought nearly all our gym equipment from there.

coggy · 24/03/2007 23:39

Thank you.
