Cutting out the crap, sticking to three meals a day and some gentle exercise??

I've about three stone to lose but lack motivation and self control. As soon as I think "diet" I justify wee "treats" if I've been "good".

I tried hitt classes but as I was so unfit they were very hard.

I'm on holiday next week but was planning to take myself in hand when I get back with no crap and some gentle exercise (walking).

Or is that not really going to make any difference?!

Yes.

If you cut out the chap, you will instantly cut out calories and therefore lose weight.

Walking won't make much difference calories wise.you should be exercising more for the health benefits than weigh loss iyswim?

You lose fatness in the kitchen and gain fitness in the gym

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 05/07/2017 21:35

Yes and ime it is the best way to do it!

All these 'diets' are just ways for someone to make a lot of money, by selling books, dvds, etc.

Just stick to 3 meals a day, don't have massive portions and you will lose weight.

I think it depends how much crap you're used to. 3500 calories = 1lb of fat. Also, don't forget that "healthy" Doesn't equal calorie efficient. Nuts and hoummus are a good example of this.

A lot of us are using the myfitnesspal app to record what we are eating. You put in your exercise too and it adds it all up for you. I've found it really helpful. I've lost 2 1/2 stone ----shame I've still got 5 1/2 to lose

Thanks everyone! At the hitt classes there was a sign "you can't work off a bad diet" but the diet sheet they gave me was imho a bit faddy e.g. No dairy which for me would not be a long term way of eating.

I'd thought about the MFP actually as I'm not realistic about the true level of snacking that's going on.

That saying has two meanings imho. One is that you can't really burn all of those extra calories with exercise (which you actually can but it's very time consuming) and the other one is that if you only eat empty calories there's no other way you can get the nutrients.

Owl1011 · 05/07/2017 22:13

I do agree with the theory 'you can't out exercise a bad diet' because I've been there myself. If you choose a balanced diet full of nutritious food and choose good options that will keep you fuller for longer (lean proteins, low GI options, bulk your plate with veg at meal times) then you'll be too full to snack on treats. Waking is excellent exercise but must be coupled with a balanced and healthy diet. But also don't put pressure on yourself and instead of rewarding yourself with food for being good, maybe pick something non food related that you love as a little treat instead? Good luck on your journey, I definitely think it helps to have the support of a friend/the online community. You can do it! Smile

Mfp is amazing. You get to know exactly what you are eating, also about portion size. It's a real eye opener.

Getting your head around it can seem like a bit of a fiddle for a couple of days, bit stick with it because it becomes very easy after that.

PastysPrincess · 06/07/2017 07:35

I forgot to add I use an app called Runtastic as well as MFP; it tracks your route when walking/running and tells you how many calories you've burned. Its brilliant. You can link it to the music in your phone too so it starts plays automatically and shows you on a map what you've done. It does keep trying to sell you the main version but you can just ignore it.

Walking may not make you lose weight, but it will make you feel better about yourself, which is a tool to not putting crap in your mouth.
