Who's with me for couch to 5k?!

I'm going to start Couch to 5k when my new trainers arrive (today/tomorrow/weekend) and wondered if anyone wants to start too and we can have a little support group going?

I'm 39, 2 stone overweight, haven't done any running for over 10 years and even then I couldn't run 5k without walking. I have 2 young children and want to shape up. I currently swim twice a week and walk a lot (9,000 steps a day). But I'm still pretty unfit. I need to get my heart rate up!

So who is going to join me?! You need to be able to commit to 3 runs a week (30 minutes) for 9 weeks. Have a google of couch to 5k to see what it involves if you're not sure. I'll be using an app on my phone.

Who's in?!

You haven't let yourself down Beepbeep That's around 250 calories? If you ate them all the time then it would be a problem but it's fine. Ditch the guilt or it will gnaw away at you telling you you've failed, then you're more likely to have a sod it moment. I have found being flexible around AF time helps keep control. good luck with tonight's run.

Badgoushk · 05/07/2017 22:09

Apparently we need a few extra calories around AF.

I'm feeling proud of myself. No sugar today and I did W4R1 on the way home from work with a heavyish rucksack on in 29 degree heat! It was tough!!

Wow, that sounds hardcore - well done!

It's hotting up here in France soon running in 35 degree heat for me! Our air conditioning has broken down & the kids have been too hot to sleep till 10pm-ish, by which point it's pitch black.

If it cools down, I'll get out in the morning/evening, but other than that I will wait till next Monday.

beepbeeprichie · 05/07/2017 22:46

Look at you Badgoushk!! Proper army!

Thanks Mirabelle. I finished week 5 now but I'm tempted to repeat today's long run.

MirabelleTree · 06/07/2017 07:29

Wow Badgoushk major respect !!!

Beepbeep well done. It is a great moment knowing you can do 20 mins when a couple of weeks previous 3 mins seemed like a big hurdle.
Prosecco that sounds sensible. No point in pushing yourself, risking injury and putting yourself off.

AF has finally arrived a week late so at least I can now take my drugs for the cramps, I've had them all sodding week. Not sure if I'm going to run tomorrow morning or wait until the weekend, will see how I feel.

MirabelleTree · 07/07/2017 10:18

W6R3 done.

beepbeeprichie · 07/07/2017 10:45

Well done Mirabelle now you can spend the rest of Friday proud of yourself!
Will get on with W6R1 later this afternoon. Doesn't look as daunting as the 20 minute crawl of earlier in the week. Grin
I've been investigating virtual running races/ medals. I think I'm going to get a 5km one and get my husband to put it round my neck in a Olympic ceremony stylee when I complete my final run.

MirabelleTree · 09/07/2017 09:28

Went for a dog walk this morning and felt inspired to have a jog. Ditched the app and went just very very slowly went for it, I did 5k.

MirabelleTree · 09/07/2017 09:29

Unfortunately walking down my drive on way home my ankle gave way so a bit worried I might have done some damage, hopefully not.

Pumperthepumper · 09/07/2017 11:25

Just finished w4r1 and the last five minutes were a lot tougher than I was expecting. Just couldn't get my pace right at all and ending up jumping and plodding along, totally knackered now. Ho hum.

How's your ankle now Mirabelle? Have you iced it up?

MirabelleTree · 09/07/2017 11:42

Well done Pumper I think the first run of each week is always a bit of a shock, bet it's easier by run 3. It's done now so leave it behind you and feel knackered basking in the glow of the fact it's over.

Ankle okish I think. Knee only slightly cut so could have all been worse. Ice pack on as I type! Friend is Pilates instructor and has said she'll give my strengthening exercises if it happens again.

Pumperthepumper · 09/07/2017 14:38

Yeah, I hope so. Hope your ankle and knee is better now.

caremummy · 09/07/2017 18:26

Restarting today, completed it twice before but illness+exams=weight pile on. I'm doing SW as well. Aiming to get down to 60kg (currently 73) in the long term, but more importantly love running again.

caremummy · 09/07/2017 18:28

Hope you all don't mind me joining

beepbeeprichie · 09/07/2017 19:34

Oh no MirabelleTree rest, ice and all that. Get well soon. W6R2 today for me. Actually CBA with it for the first time. Will definitely have to repeat that run on Tuesday before R3 as I had to stop several times to adjust my shorts Blush

beepbeeprichie · 09/07/2017 19:35

Hi caremummy!! I might have to try SW if I can't shift this blubber myself in the next couple of months!!

MoreProseccoNow · 09/07/2017 20:07

W6 R2 complete! The temperature here in France dropped to 25 degrees & it was overcast, so I decided to go for it. Struggled with the last 5 mins of the final 10 min run - decided to stop for 30 steps & then re-start running.

Looking forward to running my usual route back home, in colder temperatures!!

Hope everyone's doing ok

Badgoushk · 09/07/2017 23:08

Hi guys, I'm on holiday in a hilly part of the UK. I did W4R2 tonight but had to do it up and down hills!! It was okay. But half way through I got initimidated by a german shepherd who wouldn't let me pass. I was actually quite scared. I called my husband and he came and saw him off. I had a little cry (it was the last straw as holiday isn't living up to expectations - first world problems!) and then finished the run. I'm supposed to run again on Tuesday but I don't know if I can face another run in with the dog! BTW, I have my own dog so not normally scared of them!

MirabelleTree · 10/07/2017 07:07

Well done Prosecco and Beepbeep I found W6R2 the hardest so far.

Badgoushk huge sympathies. I also have a fairly big dog but German Shepherds scare me, I'd definitely have cried at that. One lunged at my dog recently barking and snarling. Terrified me and the owners didn't even mutter a word. I think you did brilliantly to finish the run.

Welcome CareMummy

My weight loss has stalled and I'm up nearly a couple of pounds. Should be water retention as have been tracking and eaten at a deficit but am annoyed as was 2lbs off 5 stone loss the other week and now it's 4lb and I wanted to have done it by end of the month. Hopefully I'll have a woosh.

Badgoushk · 10/07/2017 20:39

Thanks for your sympathies MirabelleTree.

I'm sure you'll have a whoosh! I've taken to not weighing myself around my period or ovulation as it's always so disheartening! I'm away now so can't weigh myself for 2 weeks! Just keeping up with the tracking etc!

caremummy · 10/07/2017 20:46

W1R2 done and appreciating the bright weather. First proper day of sw eating and it's going well. I too don't weight myself when menstruating/ovulating as nearly a stone seems to appear !

Badgoushk · 10/07/2017 23:24

Well done caremummy!!

MirabelleTree · 11/07/2017 07:12

Well done Caremummy!

W7R2 done. I should weigh myself every two weeks but don't have the willpower to step away from the scales.

beepbeeprichie · 11/07/2017 21:37

Nice work caremummy!
Badgoushk any update on the dog situation?
I'm hoping for a weight woosh too Mirabelle. When I did weightwatchers (many moons ago when my achieved target weight is a laughable memory now) I tended to plateau then lose 2lbs, plateau then lose 1lb and so on. Turns out I started this C25k on 7/6 (so how I've finished W6 now I don't know!!) and I have lost a bit over 5lbs.

beepbeeprichie · 11/07/2017 21:39

Or 9/6. Can't even count!!!
