If you started C25k when overweight and unfit, how bad/hard was it?

I posted this in exercise but didn't get any replies!

I used to love running but was never great at it - used to get shin pain etc but I loved just putting music on and taking off!

I've barely done any exercise since getting pregnant with DS over 3 years ago I'd love to get back running, properly this time, and have downloaded the app but I'm now 3-4 stone heavier than I was last time I did this and am prone to planar fasciitis and shin issues.

I have proper running trainers which helped but not enough. Is this going to be too hard to do? Should I try to lose weight before starting? (I was hoping it would help during!)

I'm going to try and persuade DH to do it with me but wanted opinions first on whether it's worth persisting with if you're of the hideously fat and unfit variety...

I started it and made good progress fell off the wagon you can always repeat the same stages if you don't feel up to moving on. I found compression leggings really helped too. If you have shin splints, I'd go to a sports store that offers professional shoe fitting to make sure you have decent trainers that are right for you.

I started C25K when I was overweight and had never run in my life. Was it hard? Yes. Did it work? Yes. It gets easier as you go along. I worked myself up to a half marathon and ran one still overweight. I have problems with shin splints so I wear compression socks and this seems to help.

Thank you, will pick up some compression socks!

I'm building up to fully calorie counting and trying to lose weight but my fitness levels are dire so I'm hoping this will help rather than just being impossible Grin

I am on week 8 and between 3 and 3 stone overweight.
I'm not going to lie and say it was easy but it certainly wasn't as hard as I thought. I am doing it with a jogging group that do it every few months and that has made a huge difference. It's made me persevere when it got hard and I'd have given up because I'm a bit of a quitter like that. Running with someone has definitely made a huge difference.
I am slow but I have finished every run and setting this awful heat aside I'm probably capable of running a very slow 5k now.
I would say go for it.

I did the C25K with a BMI of 34. It was hard - I'd never run before in my life but I did it! Def give it a go :)
