Anyone doing/ done the lose a stone in a week diet?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 21/05/2017 09:56

I'm just starting Day 6 (though have moved day 1 to the end so it's day 7 of the plan- don't have access to anywhere to cook tomorrow in work so had to switch days so I'm home to cook the day 7 menu iyswim). Does weight loss stop/ decrease towards the end? I've been weighing myself each morning, and there's no change from yesterday (well, 0.2 lb heavier, but not much change). Bit disappointed as thought I was on target. Does anyone with any experience know if it'll kick back in? It's pretty hard going and if the last 3 days aren't going to help I wonder if it's worth carrying on.
I'm 5'6", starting weight 10 stone 9, down to 10 stone 1 after 4 days. I'm hoping to use the diet to kick start weight loss again (lost 7lb in the previous month and will continue healthy eating plan once my week is up)

Yes, that's it.

Mathematically I don't think it's possible.

1 stone = 14 lbs
1 lbs = 3500 calories give or take
1 stone is 49,000 calories

As a female you're supposed to eat 2000 calories to maintain your weight.

If you eat nothing at all for a week, that's -14,000.

The other 35,000 you'd have to lose from exercise.

I don't see how it can work unless I've worked it out wrong.

TittyGolightly · 21/05/2017 16:18

As a female you're supposed to eat 2000 calories to maintain your weight.

That's outdated for today's lifestyles. I e functioned perfectly well on 800 cals per day for 14 of the last 18 weeks.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 21/05/2017 16:33

According to my Apple Watch, if I want to lose 2lb a week I'd have to eat 2400 a day, so I'm assuming the 2000 is for quite a sedentary lifestyle.
From what I've read the grapefruit acts to release glycogen from fat stores and increases metabolism, so on this diet your calories equate to a negative amount. Energy used comes from fat, hence you don't feel hungry and lose weight.

OP posts:
Goldfishjane · 21/05/2017 16:45

OP you're aware the effect grapefruit might have in any meds, including the Pill, no point gaining an accidental baby.

I'm short so I'd be the size of a house on 2000 cals and that's with running. I think that 2000 is based in days when we used mangles etc.

Sallycinnamum · 21/05/2017 16:52

I'm doing the blood sugar diet and have lost 5lbs in 5 days. I only have a stone to lose and did lots of research beforehand.

For me losing the weight quickly spurs me on and once I lose the weight intend to eat 800 calories every other day to maintain.

That said, your diet is very restrictive OP!

reetgood · 21/05/2017 16:59

There's really no way it can be anything but water weight and stored glycogen www.thoughtco.com/science-explains-why-you-lose-water-weight-4102879

The evidence is that low calorie crash diets may actually hinder long term weight loss authoritynutrition.com/starvation-mode/

You're unlikely to do too much damage with just a one off, but I do encourage you to look at longer term solutions. It's something like 95% of people regain weight lost through extreme calorie restriction. The diet you're following is for a specific, emergency purpose not to shift the last few pounds. Also focusing on inches rather than weight might be helpful, especially if you up activity. Finally, maybe reconsider your goals. Is it realistic and maintainable?

AnnaNimmity · 21/05/2017 17:05

I found getting dumped the most effective diet yet

I think if you can manage not to eat at all that's quite effective - my tip is to delay eating as late as you can in the day. Eating increases appetite ime

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 21/05/2017 17:46

There are no drug interactions for me, but thanks for mentioning.
It is restrictive, but it's only 7 days.
Longer term solutions are obviously important. As I mentioned, I've been eating healthily/ reducing calories/ exercising previously and will continue this from Tuesday.
I completely understand the skepticism, I felt that way at first, but read around then figured I'd give it a try.

I just posted looking for others experiences with this- has no one else tried it?

I did it to kickstart things last summer and lost 7lbs but the following 2 wks were spoilt by mindless munching on crap and put 4lbs back on. Two colleagues did it a few weeks ago and both lost 10lbs and so far have only put 1lb back on.

I didn't find it too bad but skipped the 2nd egg dinner and moved the dinners up to make it easier to fit in with planned events. My mum recognised it as the scarsdale diet that she followed in the 80s.

Goingtobeawesome · 21/05/2017 18:37

I'm on day four of a food plan which you can only do one week in four. Could lose a stone. Friend did it and lost 7lbs. So far I've lost 5.8lbs.

The food is dry toast, grilled tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, fruit, salad, grilled chicken, grilled steak, grapefruit juice, fish.

No carbs, oil, alcohol.

It's been a revelation for me and I'll carry on but add some carbs to make it sustainable then once a month follow it for a week. I've also bought Joe Wicks' first book and we'll be eating from there.

Dodie66 · 21/05/2017 18:45

What are you eating each day? Could you point us in the direction of the plan. I'm stuck and can't lose anythng now

BarchesterFlowers · 21/05/2017 18:55

It doesn't sound too bad written down OP. Better than I expected you would be doing. Veg, salad, fruit, chicken, steak, eggs and toast, sounds almost sensible!

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 21/05/2017 19:24

Goingtobe, yes, that's the same plan!

Minny, good to hear it can stay off. Did your loss continue right to the end of the week or did it stop/ slow down? No loss this morning for me, hoping I can still shift a couple more pounds!

Dodie- someone's typed it out at the top of the second page of posts.

My friend did that and looked amazing for her holiday, couldn't believe the difference a stone makes! She's put it all back on and more but she's not been trying. Good luck, hope you succeed! I'm sure you'll be fine if you eat healthily afterwards but maybe with smaller portions than you normally have.

toffeeboffin · 22/05/2017 02:30

Sounds like you're doing great OP, koko

FreddoFrog · 22/05/2017 02:43

My step Mother is a nurse and this is the diet they give to certain patients who need to lose weight before surgery. She did this diet a week before each of our (her 4 daughters and step-daughters)' weddings Grin. Hers also includes a recipe for a celery- cabbage soup which is basically zero calories and you can eat the soup as much as you want. Flatulence central!!!

Good luck OP. I could never stick to it past a day!!

Goingtobeawesome · 22/05/2017 09:28

I've found losing weight difficult as I have emotional food issues but I was in the right place this time and I've found it easier than expected as I've lost weight. So far today I'm 6lb down. The loss has slowed but that's fine. Today is day five. I'm out for a few hours but fortunately lunch is fruit so I've got a bag full and I'm good to go. Fish and salad for dinner. I'm having fresh tuna and prawns. Yum.

LiftElevatorWhatever · 22/05/2017 10:03

The diet Daytona mentions is so heavy on the eggs, but I am allergic to them. Does no substitutions really mean nothing at all in place of the eggs?

Btw, does anyone know if that diet has a Googleable name? TIA

Daytona79 · 22/05/2017 10:41

British heart diet

There is a 3 day version that will lose you 10lb and don't include eggs

As others have said it's mostly water you are losing and the heart foundation also acknowledge that too.

WaitingfortheMiracle · 22/05/2017 12:58

I know this diet as either The Chemical Diet or James Duncan Diet.
Can't say if it works as I can't stay off chocolate long enough to find out.
Best wishes OP, & good luck!

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 23/05/2017 21:32

Ok, so I finished. First 4 days were promising then it tailed off. Total loss 9lb so not bad. Friends on SlimmingWorld tell me it it's with part of their plan where they just eat speed food and protein for a day or 2 to burn fat when loss stalls, so maybe it's not as extreme as it seems

OP posts:
acatcalledjohn · 23/05/2017 23:06

Given that SW leaders are measured on how much their members lose, that advice doesn't surprise me. It's on par with members being told to not do weight training as it slows down the weight loss.

So no, if it's practice within SW then I would assume it's pretty extreme. Make your customers crash diet, they will likely revert back to their pre crash diet weight and hey presto, more money for SW.

Goingtobeawesome · 24/05/2017 06:06

Today is my last day and I've lost 7lbs so hopefully maybe another 0.5-1lb off by tomorrow morning. Yesterday was the hardest so but it was more emotional as I was upset about the bombing and was exhausted. I am being tested for celiac disease so from tomorrow I have to eat wheat, gluten etc before the blood tests in two weeks.

ShoesHaveSouls · 24/05/2017 11:44

I tried it before a holiday once. I lasted 5 days - it was awful - in the end I felt nauseous and couldn't face another egg! And I love eggs.

I think I lost about 6lb in 5 days.

I'm doing the blood sugar diet at the moment, I just want to shift some weight before holiday. I lost 7lb in the first week. Its harsh, 800 cals a day - but I feel an awful lost better on it than I did on the lose a stone one.
