So I think I'm starting to look too skinny, what do you think?

Hmm
charimito · 28/04/2017 20:15

Serious question! I think everybody tells me I look ok because of all the hard work, but I don't think people are being honest :s

You need to tidy up.

TheFormidableMrsC · 28/04/2017 20:15

I think you look absolutely fine!

charimito · 28/04/2017 20:18

Well at least is not in a bathroom , lol and you haven't seen my work desk!!

BrieAndChilli · 28/04/2017 20:21

Bloody hell chipped you'd bettter not get a look at my makeup area!!!!

iMatter · 28/04/2017 20:25

I think you look fine. There was a v interesting article by Carole Midgley in the Times today commenting on the fact that our perceptions of a healthy weight are skewed and essentially she says that slim is normal and does not mean you are skinny/too thin.

Nancy91 · 28/04/2017 20:27

You don't look too skinny, don't worry about it.

charimito · 28/04/2017 20:30

That's interesting @iMatter I think perceptions are very odd thing. Like I can observe if people see me and still see a thick person but at the same time I don't recognise myself and think I look too skinny. I always thought I would end up a small 10, but I ended up a bit smaller so that doesn't help in the feeling to skinny department. :)

If it's any consolation I'm the opposite to you. Deep down I know I am v slim (8 st 4and 5'3" and I do triathlons) but see myself as anything but.

But that's what years of eating ishoos does to you!

You look great. Enjoy it!

charimito · 28/04/2017 20:49

We're the same height!! And I'm a runner :) ... Those jeans are a size 6, that still shocks me!!

limpit · 29/04/2017 08:26

You are not too skinny.

MyLittleBoyBlue · 29/04/2017 08:30

Definitely not skinny. You look normal.

Nishky · 29/04/2017 08:34

I know how you feel, I lost 5 stones and worried I was too skinny- I was a size 12 at 5 foot 8 so suspect not. I agree that our perceptions of normal are skewed

Having put 2 stones back on which I am trying to lose, I won't be complaining if I get there again!

Gwenhwyfar · 29/04/2017 12:27

"There was a v interesting article by Carole Midgley in the Times today commenting on the fact that our perceptions of a healthy weight are skewed and essentially she says that slim is normal and does not mean you are skinny/too thin."

Yes, but it's also how you see yourself isn't it and other people can give different replies. I have one friend who thinks I was too thin at a certain point in my life, but nobody agreed with her and I think she just has a preference for medium rather than slim.

roarityroar · 29/04/2017 12:34

You aren't too skinny.

SingaSong12 · 29/04/2017 12:40

I don't think you are too skinny but hard to judge without seeing anyone directly.
If you are within the healthy weight range for NHS/other reputable organisations then the real question is how you feel. Do you feel comfortable in your clothes and can you do the exercises you want? Do you feel healthy? Could you ask a close friend or relativewhat they think?

AyeAmarok · 29/04/2017 12:44

You're not too skinny.

Size 6 jeans of today are not the size 6 of yesteryear.

If you think you're too skinny and you're stressing about it and don't think you would look good any slimmer, then stop losing weight by eating more calories (healthy food calories).

Gwenhwyfar · 29/04/2017 17:06

"stop losing weight by eating more calories (healthy food calories)."

If I wanted to put on weight it would be my excuse to eat lots of chocolate and cheese (not together). Life's too short to be eating muesli type stuff.

stevie69 · 29/04/2017 18:14

Tis off no consequence what we think; it's what YOU think that counts. Ask for an opinion on here and, fairly predictably, you'll get a myriad of said opinions.

Go with your heart.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2017 22:21

It's hard to tell from a picture. I wouldn't think you need to actively gain weight but prob is time to try and focus on maintenance.

charimito · 30/04/2017 09:29

For the first time in my whole life I'm not overweight (but just barely as my BMI Is of 25). I think I look athletic, my mum thinks I'm way too skinny, a friend says I'm too skinny and husband and best friend think I look ok. So opinions are all over the place. I still think it's just the shock of getting used to buying xs clothes!

OP posts:
LimpidPools · 30/04/2017 09:39

Mums always think you look too skinny, it's part of their job.

Your husband presumably sees you naked and would mention it if you were starting to look emaciated. I'd listen to him.

My opinion (which you shouldn't listen to) is that you look great. And not too skinny. It's hard to see, but are you a bit of an apple shape? So any weight that is left is clinging round your waist?

Gwenhwyfar · 30/04/2017 09:57

"Mums always think you look too skinny, it's part of their job."

Yes. Is that from having a baby and having to worry it gains weight rather than lose it? Also your mother is likely to be middle age or in early old age so larger herself and her 'normal' might be a bigger size.

charimito · 30/04/2017 19:11

I'm technically an hourglass shape. I've always had a flat tummy and I currently weight like 10-14 lbs less that when I got pregnant. I've always been a size 12-14 at least since I was 11/12 so that's why I can't get used to it. Husband thinks I definitely look great but now he sees me as some sort of trophy wife ....
