Weight going back on-aargh!

I've lost about a stone over the last year, with exercise 3-4 times a week. Then the exercise stopped after xmas, was just so tired and working full time etc, so started going to Slimming World. Weight continued to come off slowly and then someone said "ooh you look good...lost some weight?" Next day similar thing happened.
I HATE it when people do this. What they're saying is "Urgh you looked awful before, thank God you're doing something about it"
I always feel like telling them I'm not doing it for them and they should mind their own business. Well, if they're rude enough to comment then why shouldn't I be rude back? In fact I usually simper and say "oh thanks"
Anyway, so the weight's going back on. I know people will say it's not the commenters fault, but I just can't be bothered all over again now.
Anyone experienced the same? Do these sort of comments have the same effect on others, or is it just me?
Please help..the weight has gone back on literally within a month-it's awful!

But people don't say it to hurt you!

They want you to feel good about yourself and you should try to take it as a compliment to boost your efforts!

Sorry I can't offer any help.

OK, but they're still insinuating I was obese before. You wouldn't say to someone you barely knew, who had had bad acne which was now better: "Oh your skin looks so much better now". That would imply that you'd noticed they had acne before, which would be taken as an insult.
It's not very nice to think I've been walking around with people thinking I'm fat!
A friend of mine lost about 10 stone over the period of about a year-ever so fast I know and it's gone back on now. We used to have people coming specifically up to our office everyday just to say "Oh you look really good now"...I used to feel so sorry for her.
Anyway, guess it's my problem. I think I'll wear fatty clothes to work so if I lose weight again, no-one notices!
