May I join too please?
I have about 4 stone to lose, but can't weigh myself until I get back home, in a couple of days.

I've started eating properly as of today. I'm going for smaller, sensible meals, with no snacking. I'm dropping the alcohol for a while too. I don't drink much, but it has got too regular. I plan to walk more too.

I Feel very overwhelmed by the amount I need to lose (I've tried so many times before), but it's lovely to have found other people doing the same thing.

Fatbird71 · 01/01/2017 17:22

Think I need to join too. Before Xmas the scales said 128kgs. Not looked yet. Used to be really fit, then had to take steroids and it all went horribly wrong, now have arthritis in my ankle so no more running. Won't be starting until next weekend, but definitely need the focus and pressure from others who are going to be doing so well

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/01/2017 17:22

I've just got back from my lovely walk, the family didn't fancy coming with me in the cold so I was able to go where I wanted at my own pace with my audiobook on. It was really nice. I was out for about an hour, but I still haven't actually hit my 10,000 step target. I took DD swimming earlier too, which was fun and I did manage to swim a few lengths.

Stellar67 · 01/01/2017 17:56

Well done awesome. My hangover is kicking in now. Might go to bed.

DesperatelySeeking2016 · 01/01/2017 18:08

Impressive work awesome, well done. I have not been very active today but am psyching myself up to go to the gym tomorrow.
Dh has just offered my ice cream and I said no!

flapjackfairy · 01/01/2017 18:13

I feel terrible. Just measured myself and i have regained all the inches i lost 18 months ago for dd wedding when i lost 3 stone. WHY,? I l feel so angry and disgusted with myself!
Need to lose 3 stone again. Sigh!

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/01/2017 18:20

More amazing work here as we are not having our planned dessert after dinner. That is not really sure to me wanting to lose weight, is more to do with me forgetting to get it out of the freezer to defrost Blush, but it does save me eating delicious dessert.

OhHolyFuck · 01/01/2017 18:48

How's everyone's day gone? I've had

B - porridge with stewed Apple
L - didn't have any (had porridge quite late by the time I'd cleaned the kitchen)
D - chicken and broccoli
S - grapes, mullerlight yoghurt
Dr - diet tonic water, 2 x coffee with sweetener, options hot chocolate
Ex - none, just pottered around the house today

Feel a little virtuous and like I should have lost a stone already but need to move more

lovelearning · 01/01/2017 19:09

diet tonic water

OhHolyFuck

Artificial sweeteners raise insulin levels

Kick the habit

Drink tea

HerRoyalFattyness · 01/01/2017 19:19

I've had 2 cups of coffee
2 cups of tea
A massive roast dinner consisting of pork, roasties, carrots, peas, cauliflower and a Yorkshire pud.
And a slice of cake.

I'm going to have another cup of tea soon.

Can I join? I need the support desperately, I lost 150lbs a few years ago and have regained 90lbs. I don't want to diet in a short-term way, I want to change my eating patterns for good.

My plan is to do it through:

My FitnessPal - genuinely log everything I eat so I know what i'm eating and where it's building up
FitBit - build up my steps per day
FitBit Aria scales - really good for me because I weigh in every day but don't look at the number, it all gets recorded.

Anyway, today is a very high starting weigh. I'm hoping to lose 5lbs by next Sunday but ONLY because that's my Christmas gain largely and I think it should go down quite quickly.

Good luck everyone!

smartiecake · 01/01/2017 20:18

I would like to join, I have 4 stone to lose. This is the year i am going to do something about it!

RandomMcRandomface · 01/01/2017 20:29

In Oh's defence, I will be drinking plenty of artificial sweeteners during this journey! Better than the real thing, and given that it's proven willpower is finite if I try to do everything perfectly I'll fall off the wagon.

Given that the science around health anx weight loss is so variable can we make it a rule of the group we don't comment or judge each other's choices? At the end of the day we all need to choose a path that we can stick to, however that may look

RandomMcRandomface · 01/01/2017 20:30

P.s. How do I find you all on Fitbit?

HerRoyalFattyness · 01/01/2017 20:33

random PM me your email that you use for it and I can send you a request.

Lizsmum · 01/01/2017 20:34

I really need to lose about 5 stones - just over a third of my current weight. But if I think of the whole amount it's just too depressing so I'm focussing on the first 20lbs - which would be 10% of my starting weight.
My birthday is at the end of March so it would be good to have lost the first 20lbs by then. I'll be happy with a pound a week.

I lost a bit before Christmas but have put on about 5lbs during the festivities. I'll post a current weight tomorrow.

Exercise is a problem as I have joint problems which can make walking very painful. Hopefully as I lose this will improve. I use a static bike at the gym and am planning to go swimming.

At 62 im guessing I'm older than most of you. And I've been trying to lose weight for about 50 years so not a great success story yet! Blush

Kiwimiri · 02/01/2017 07:02

Yup, I weighed myself and am just under 85kg, 13 stone. Need to get to 10 stone/65kg. Did living room Pilates 20mins and a walk today so that's a start. Need to work on the sleep deprivation related carbs. I have a 2 1/2yo and an 8 month old.

Stellar67 · 02/01/2017 07:28

Random send me your email for Fitbit.

Feel better today. Getting some coffee in me then I'm getting rid of Christmas tree.

RandomMcRandomface · 02/01/2017 07:29

Kiwimiri are you in NZ?

Kiwimiri · 02/01/2017 07:44

Yes, I found it hard to think of a good username!

RandomMcRandomface · 02/01/2017 08:02

Me too! Always nice to have someone in my Timezone

badhotfanny · 02/01/2017 08:04

I'm starting today - weighed in at 11 st 2. At my best weight I was 9 st 8. - I've never really managed to get below that.

It feels strangely ok. I feel in control.

I mainly eat higher protein, lower carb - though I'm training for a marathon, so need to eat sensibly for this. I'm actually just fucking greedy!

Running 10 miles with a friend this morning - just had porridge with almonds and dates - a conservative portion though.

In response to a pp, I have some non-diet goals, mostly around running. If I weigh less and maintain a healthier diet, this should help me achieve them more easily. Also not really drinking alcohol.

The other non-diet goal is about getting better-quality sleep ie not taking phone to bed. Waking up tired is not a good way to make sensible diet/exercise choices.

Am planning chicken and veg later, possibly soup for lunch. Definitely with broccoli. Last year's resolution was to eat green veg every day, and I reckon I managed every day card about 10.

PushingElephantsUpStairs · 02/01/2017 09:06

Right, first day today! Have only just woken up so not sure if that's the right start but have had loads of sleep!

Have a sainsburys order coming soon with loads of healthy food so will probably spend today making soup and prepping for the week.

Exercise will be the first day of Davina'a 5 week fit.

Redhot I'm going to try and improve my lifestyle as well - no screens after 9.30 and try to do some mindfulness each day too. Have read a lot recently about it being a whole package - food, sleep, exercise, mind. Not sure if I'm trying to change too much all in one go though ...

PushingElephantsUpStairs · 02/01/2017 09:07

Sorry meant badhotfanny

BecauseWeCanCanCan · 02/01/2017 09:23

Good start yesterday:

  • no booze
  • stuck to eating plan
  • came in under calories on MFP

Downside is that I didn't walk hardly at all, but I was soooooooooooo hungover! Feeling good about today though :)
