Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh enjoy him, Im broody thinking of how gorgeous he will be - ohhhh sniff his head!!!

laloop · 06/03/2007 14:54

Hi bethoo, welcome to the exercise buddies thread
Just clicked on your pic of Hayden - he looks so cute, congratulations

Lorns · 06/03/2007 15:31

Hey everyone - sorry I've not been around. Too busy exercising. (don't often see that do you!! [happy].

Well done to you all. I think you're doing fab!

Sorry if I miss some of your general q's out but still short of time!!

Laloop re weights. It's good to have a selection of hand weghts. A pair of 1kg and 2.5kg would be good. Why not look on ebay and have a bid. Sometimes Tesco sell weights too. I usually order from specialist fitness companies but if your having trouble find somewhere then I can give you a quote?

Hi to stripy and Bethoo. I'm a fitness Instructor so if you have any q's please let me know. Congrats on your DS. I know it's frustrating wanting to get back to exercising and regain your shape. Even if you've had a normal delivery (and pregnancy) you need to leave 6 weeks post partum before exercising. Why not take gentle walks with your DS strapped to you or in the pushchair etc. Please watch your milk supply when exercsing and remember you will bleed more when exercsing too. You also have masses of relaxin in your body so you might feel more bendy than you actually are!

What you can do (which I'm sure the hospital would have advised you to do) is pelvic floor exercises and drawing navel to spine 30% (see posting on Monday 26th Feb).

Bye for now!!

Lorns · 07/03/2007 09:11

Hi Biglips - your welcome! [smle] Good luck with your gym trial this morning. Hope it goes well. Does this gym have classes or a swimming pool? It's good to do a variety of exercise to get your heart going, strengthen your muscles and some flexibility. Salsa is excellent isn't it. It's really good for your mid section and hips! - all that gyrating!!!

Stripey - well done....how many minutes cud u do when you first started?

laloop · 07/03/2007 11:07

Hi everyone

Welcome Biglips - hope you enjoy your gym session this morning

Well done Stripey, 17mins is fantastic, go girl!!!

A big hello to everyone else as well, you all are doing great. I went to ww this morning and have lost 4lbs in my first week - yeahhhh, so happy about that. Stopped at greengrocer's on way home, so well stocked up with healthy food for this week - had to resist the temptation to trat myself to a nice pastry from the bakery as a treat.

No exercise yesterday unfortunately and just a walk on Monday - so, yes, I'm feeling a bit slobbish too pecka - will have to try to do something later on. Still need to buy handweights and new sportsbra so think I'll try to get to sports shop over next few days as well.

Catch up with you all later x

MuckyAnthea · 07/03/2007 11:07

flippin heck stripey!! your doing so well! I started off running 10 minutes non stop, but then it degenerated into 6 minute spurts followed by 4 minutes fast walking. I have actually given up smoking this week, and its had quite an effect on my running, I am out of breath more so then before when I was smoking,...weird.

Bethoo, glas you found us! you and your son look fantastic. I'm all broody now!

Biglips welcome!!

Pecka, I too feel guilty when I haven't exercised, but also if I eat something I shouldn't, I feel even worse. I hope I can keep a grip on it and not let it get out of control....

MuckyAnthea · 07/03/2007 11:09

well done on the weight loss laloop!!
Can you recommend a good sports bra, mine are jiggleing abit too much for my liking these days....

laloop · 07/03/2007 11:21

Mucky, good on you for giving up the fags, I'm sure you'll notice a change in your lung function soon, your body probably just starting to get rid of all the toxic stuff that's gathered up. I used to be a "social" smoker but gave up years ago, so I know what a massive difference you'll notice if you stay off them. Not only will you feel fitter and healthier, food will taste better, your skin will look fantastic and you'll save a fortune

Sports bras - had a look on the lessbounce.co.uk website and I'm going to buy a ShockAbsorber one, a few recommendations about them on this thread. Was going to buy online but think I'll buy first one from a sports shop so that I can try it one to see what their sizes are like.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 07/03/2007 13:25

MuckyAnthea - Well done for smoking - that is my guilty secret that I have never revealed on this thread

I am a smoker

MummyPenguin · 07/03/2007 13:40

Can I join the 'smoking outers' too?
I don't smoke a lot, but know that I shouldn't at all.

Have been back to the gym this week after a break of a couple of weeks due to half term and catching up on stuff at home.
Have mainly been doing treadmill and cross trainer and weights and cycling there and back.

Today I tried interval training whilst running on the treadmill, as recommended by Lorns a while back. It was hard, although the faster speed felt much more effective than my usual slower one. I normally run at about 9.7 that's the fastest I've ever maintained. Ramped it up to about 10.6 today for a couple of minutes. Did that twice. I hope to be able to extend it as my fitness levels increase.

laloop · 07/03/2007 13:43

Lol, pecka. Think I've already owned up to my shocking red wine habit (currently being addressed as I love food too much to forego the pts for the wine, weekends only now!)

MummyPenguin · 07/03/2007 13:44

Congratulations to Bethoo. was just wondering about her, as I haven't visited this thread for a while, then I saw that she's had a little Hayden!

Where's the picture, or has it been taken down now?

laloop · 07/03/2007 13:48

Mummypenguin, sounds like the running is really coming along, well done!!!

Biglips · 07/03/2007 14:00

Biglips · 07/03/2007 14:01

laloop · 07/03/2007 14:04

Biglips · 07/03/2007 14:08

speedymama · 07/03/2007 14:16

Yesterday morning I did David Kirsch's bootcamp DVD before going to work. Then just before I went to pick up DTS from nursery I did the 8 minute Taebo work out followed by the Abs and Glutes.

This morning I did the Basic Taebo work out and I feel so invigorated.

My clothes are looser, I feel more energetic and my mindset is so focussed on getting fit and trim. I don't even want to snack now unless it is fruit because I automatically think about how it will affect my body.

My gym membership at work has run out so I need to renew this so I can do a work out there at least once a week.

Well done Laloop on losing 4lb!

speedymama · 07/03/2007 14:17

Well done Biglips. Once you get the exercise bug, there is no looking back!

Biglips · 07/03/2007 14:18
