Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

HI everyone

Well, I've been to WW and looks like I need to lose about a stone (I'm at the top of my heathy BMI index range but want to get down to just under the halfway point on this range as that's where I feel best at). So that's the party over for me , no more unhealthy snacks and glasses of red wine midweek. Feel great that I've rejoined WW actually, more in control and hopefully will start to see the benefits of my exercise regime now .

speedymama · 28/02/2007 12:59

How many point per day are you allowed Laloop? I'm on 20 points per day and I don't plan to use my bonus points that I gain from exercising so I'm hoping to lose a stone by May.

laloop · 28/02/2007 13:11

I can't make my mind up whether I'm allowed 20 or 22 pts, speedymama. It all depends on which daily activity level I think I match - I'm a SAHM at the moment with 3 dc's, plus I look after my dniece as well 3 days per week, so I don't get to sit still for very long with 4 dc age 7 and under in the house . I'm tempted to put down the 4 pts for "walking most of the time" but don't know whether I should really be ticking the 2 pts "occassionally sitting, mostly standing". Any advice?

laloop · 28/02/2007 13:12

I'm not going to use my bonus points either btw, in hope of shifting the lbs a bit quicker.

speedymama · 28/02/2007 13:35

It sounds to me you have your hands full. I think running after 4 children under the age of 7 means that you are very active so I would go for 22, especially as you plan not to partake of your bonus points.

Good luck!

ashtanga - totally my fave thing in the world (well, nearly)

I've been practising yoga for 6 years, first 3 I did sivananda, and been doing ashtanga for 3 years (except when pg, did siv then too).

asthanga is a flowing, energetic form of yoga, starting off with sun salutations, then standing postures followed by seated (with vinyasa in-between). It is amazing and has totally changed my body. I go to two classes a week usually. thoroughly recommend if there's a class near you!

Overtiredmum · 28/02/2007 18:32

Dinny I think I will have a look and see if I can find a local class, although can only go at weekends. I tried Pilates once and although it was OK, I didn't feel like I had done enough (if that makes sense!).

Everyone sounds like they are doing so well, and I really find this thread helpful and encouraging.

I did my 20 minute work out again today and also the abdominal workout. My fitness level is certainly improving as I can do it at increased cardio level now and find although I still sweat loads, I don't need quite so much water as I used to during it, although I still drink the same amount after it, I find I don't gulp it, just drink normally - hope that makes sense too!!!

Am hoping (although may be unrealistic) to losing 2 stone by mid May in time for my holiday!

Lorns · 28/02/2007 22:25

Hey still here! Been v busy with life. Will chat tomorrow arvo! Well done everyone!!!!

Hi

I'm overdoing it. Last night after getting in from work, bathing and putting twins to bed, I did 8 minute Taebo work out followed by Keli Roberts Kickbox bootcamp.

After dropping twins off to nursery at 0715, I wanted to go for a run but I felt really tired. So I did basic Taebo followed by Taebo Glutes & Abs. I only did half of the abs DVD because I just felt worn out.

So no exercise for me until Saturday when I will endeavour to go for a slow 2 mile run. I probably need to increase my carb intake too as I have cut right back on this. Also, I am on my period so I always feel lethargic around this time.

laloop · 01/03/2007 10:13

I am doing no exercise today, I am wrecked on account of ds2 not sleeping last night. If it stays dry outside I might go for a walk to keep myself awake. Did stick to my ww points though yesterday so that's a start .

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/03/2007 11:17

speedymama - I know how you feel - yesterday i intended on going for a run then doing abs and glutes but i just felt SO exhausted I couldnt bring myself to. Plan on going for a run later then Tae Bo 8 min workout and abs and glutes - I will see how I get on.

Im going to the gym tomorrow night and think I will have a rest day on Saturday.

Im starting to see my body change now - much slimmer round the waist.

How does everyone else feel their body has changed? I'd be interested to hear!

dinny · 01/03/2007 11:33

Hi everyone - got a few minutes now before picking up the DS's!

Dinnny - exercise whenever fits it. When I was exercising early morning I had to watch what I ate the night before, 'cause it was easy to get into my head that I'd need to eat more to fuel me 1st thing in the morning!

Sorry it is so long. Was going to do a link. If you want it it's... www.tescodiets.com/b2b/tiscali/archive.cfm?article_id=2006&code=600452

Why execise in the mornings? (up to 12.00am)

? Over 90 percent of people who exercise consistently, exercise in the morning. If you want to exercise consistently, odds are in your favour if you exercise first thing in the morning.

? When you exercise early in the morning, it jump starts your metabolism and keeps it elevated for hours, sometimes up to 24 hours! That means you're burning more calories all day long just because you exercised in the morning!

? When you exercise in the morning you'll be energised for the day! Personally, I feel dramatically different on days when I have and haven't exercised in the morning.

? Many people find that morning exercise regulates their appetite for the day; that they aren't as hungry and they make better food choices. Many people have told me that it puts them in a healthy mindset.

? If you exercise at about the same time every morning, and ideally wake up at about the same time on a regular basis, your body's endocrine system and circadian rhythms adjust to that.

Physiologically, some wonderful things begin to happen. A couple of hours before you wake, your body begins to prepare for waking and exercise because it "knows" it's about to happen. Why? Because it "knows" you do the same thing just about every day. You benefit from that in several ways:

a. It's much easier to wake-up. When you wake-up at different times every day, it confuses your body and thus it's never really prepared to awaken.

b. Your metabolism and all the hormones involved in activity and exercise begin to elevate while you're sleeping. Thus, you feel more alert, energised and ready to exercise when you do wake up.

c. Hormones prepare your body for exercise by regulating blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow to muscles, etc.

? For many people, that appointed time every morning becomes something they look forward to. It's time they've set aside to do something good for themselves; to take care of their body, mind, and soul. Many find that it's a great time to think clearly, pray, plan their day, or just relax mentally.

I'd eat a good breakfast (healthy) after to ensure that you're not hungry later.

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE BENEFITS TO EXERCISING IN THE MORNING - ANYTIME IS GOOD. Sometimes people have more motivation in the mornings!!!

MN's - so pleased you're listening to your bodies. Don't overdo it - this leads to injuries. Please remember to do good stretching at the end of your workouts!!

No exercise for me today, my arms and legs really ached, so will probably rest for tomorrow too and start again at the weekend.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/03/2007 20:43

I have been for a 25 minute run tonight but didnt do Abs and Glutes - I have loads to do in the house as DS and DH are going camping tomorrow so didnt have time!

Going for long session at gym tomorrow.

I have stuck to WW points all week! Weigh in on Sunday, hope it shows a loss!

laloop · 02/03/2007 10:12

Hi everyone
Don't think I'm going to get to gym today so think it's either going to be Davina dvd later on instead. If weather is okay tomorrow I'm going to head out for a run .

How's everyone else today?

MuckyAnthea · 02/03/2007 10:45

Hi everyone
Did not get to the gym yesterday or today, only two times this week so far was going today but realised I had forgotton to wash my 'PE' kit. Will go for a good session tomorrow and Sunday I think. Got tested for an over/under ative thyroid and Cushings disease this week, as my doctor was shocked at how much exercise I was doing with little weight loss. Got the all clear, so on Monday my friend is doing a Kenisiology session with me, to find out if I am allergic to any foods. Should be interesting to see what we find out.

Have a good Friday everyone

Overtiredmum · 02/03/2007 18:01

dinny · 02/03/2007 20:46
