The last thread inspired us to shift the pounds so let's kick October's butt too!

Well done Kiki 3lbs is fantastic! You can definitely lose 6lb by Christmas if you can drop half that in a single week! That's less than 1lb a week, I think it's totally doable.

Hangover here too BOOP. I ate practically nothing yesterday: fasted in the morning in order to weigh in empty (except for my clearly leaden bladder Wink) and then didn't get a chance until 4 pm (!) and decided to treat myself to these amazing Mac n Cheese bites I used to love in this pub in Euston, along with a nice glass of wine. Well, I get there drooling all over the place and they've fecking arsing stopped doing them! I was now faint with hunger so ordered a starter portion of mac n cheese as a poor substitute, and when it came it was so bland, it tasted like plain boiled pasta. I think they forgot the "cheese" part Confused So I wolfed down about 60% of it and left the rest in protest, thinking I'd save myself for the lovely charcuterie.

So all in all, there wasn't much to soak up that glass of wine and I got smashed instantly...

DoinItFine · 29/10/2016 10:48

Ooooooh j'aime les Frenches Fancies

snapping at DH every time he touched my waist, lest he discover my tyre of shame (as if it really was a secret).

😂😂😂

I've been there.

I'm currently below my Podge Barrier.

I'd like to push on through to 9 stone or below, but I know my motivation is not there for that now.

The goal is to keep losing a bit or staying the same until December. Then all bets are off for Christmas.

QuimReaper · 29/10/2016 10:54

Howlong I hate telling people I'm on a diet. For some reason I don't mind telling them I'm doing the 5:2 though, I'm not sure why - probably because it's so trendy now. Well, I only told DH and my mum, but my mum is always offering me food which I basically don't eat, like baked potatoes, and "I'm on a fast day" is easier than a long conversation about carbs and you-don't-need-to-lose-weight and carbs-are-important and blah blah blah.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/10/2016 10:58

Oh if rally did snort at your leaden bladder quim Grin

I am doing my thrice weekly trick of loitering in the gym car park to avoid actually going in. I'm supposed to run today but my pounding head is telling me to just do some intervals then retire to the pool.

It won't be a graceful writing though. Trying to wrestle yourself into a cozzie with a frozen shoulder whilst slightly sweaty is the opposite of graceful. There will be grunting and muttered swearing.

Which pub Quim? I used to work on Euston road a lifetime ago. I feel your pain with the food disappointment, and if it tasted shit on a fast day then it must have been awful. Normally any food on a fast day tastes like nectar of the gods.

Your faith in my weightloss is lovely, except the reality is I'll probably be chasing that 3lbs up and down till Christmas! But I'll keep positive and keep going. Ooh, I start a new job next week, that'll throw a spanner in the works! Hopefully I won't have time to think about not eating! It's very different hours to my previous job and will involve proper full days which I don't think I've done since before children which is nearly 13 years ago.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/10/2016 11:11

Oh good luck with the new job Kiki.

OP posts:
KikisDeliveryService · 29/10/2016 11:37

Thanks Boop Are you still loitering in the gym car park?!

So while I'm weight obsessing this morning I thought I'd check out my BMI on the NHS calculator as haven't done for a while. The 3lb loss takes me out of overweight and into normal range, which has motivated me a bit as I don't want to drift back into the 25+ overweight category again (having worked so hard to get out of it a few years ago!). Anyway, what was interesting is that if you're normal BMI it goes straight to the chart but if in overweight section it asks activity level qs and gives you a suggested calorie intake too. I think that info would be helpful in all weight categories so it's a bit of a shame that it differentiates in that way.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/10/2016 12:50

I find the nhs BMI app so demotivating. You can put in a fantastic loss and you get a message saying "you've lost weight but you're still fat". Yeah. Thanks.

ponygirlcurtis · 29/10/2016 18:08

I take the BMI stuff with a pinch of salt. Even at my leanest pre-kids I was 10.5st, a good 10lb above the very upper BMI for my height. This was when I was exercising 5 times a week and really paying attention to what I was eating so I think it would have taken a really unrealistic and unsustainable effort to try and get those 10lb off. I am large of breast and thigh, neither of which reduce much regardless of weight lost. 10.5st is a good weight for me and is my long-term 'maybe one day' goal. Shorter term I would like to be 11st, which is 4/5 6 lbs away.

In other words - you know your own body and what is a healthy weight for you - and more importantly a realistic weight that can be maintained without too much stress.

QuimReaper · 30/10/2016 09:33

I feel exactly the same pony but in the other direction! It's pretty clear to me that the weight I was before was unhealthy for my frame, but BMI wise it wasn't cause for concern. I was carrying it all around my middle which I'm always hearing is a red flag health-wise and totally classic of my kind of gain, which was all down to overdoing it on wine and sugar and carbs. (If there's even a difference between the three!) As I said upthread my body doesn't carry it well, doesn't know what to do with it, and for me that is evidence enough that it wasn't right for me, even though other people of the same BMI could be fit as a fiddle and look and feel fine. I think everybody knows what feels right and wrong for their own body, and everyone has different bone density, muscle mass etc. which affect your starting weight and have nothing to do with carrying fat.

DoinItFine · 30/10/2016 12:17

The NHS BMI calculator telling me I was on the lower border of obese (at 13 stone) gave me the fright of my life.

When I'm breastfeeding I get fat. But by 3rd time around in 4 years, having not lost much in between, I was really fat.

I think it can be a useful tool when you are in that "oh it's fine, it'll cone off" frame of mind whike your weight is going upwards.

Less useful once you are on the right track, because bodies vary so much.

I can't magine anyone at 5'5" and 13 stone who doesn't have some weight to lose.

But certainly I think my ideal weight is below the healthy BMI. Others look far healthier carrying more weight than I do.

I'm slight of frame. Luckily I carry weight on my boobs and bum, so I can get away with a bit mire chub than I should probably have.

Went out for an 11k run this morning. Hope that burns off the hula hoops and wine.

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/10/2016 12:58

Morning all . I have yet again buggered up all my hard work by drinking beer and eating the wrong food . Have been away for a couple of days , had a fantastic time but I am now paying for it .

Have been to the gym this morning to serve my penance and am going to behave from now .

Roll on November !

BitOutOfPractice · 30/10/2016 12:59

11km?

Very well done!

I'm 5'7" and my healthy weight range is roughly 8.5 to 11.5 stone. That's quite a big difference isn't it? I know I would look ill at anything under 9 stone. I am aiming for 10 stone 7

I'm about to go for a walk as it's such a beautiful day here.

Hope you're all enjoying your Sundays

OP posts:
QuimReaper · 30/10/2016 13:03

Bloody heck Doin mad props on the 11km, and well done for the Sunday morning gym sesh Howlong!

Who's going to start the November thread this time...?

QuimReaper · 30/10/2016 13:05

Howlong as I was saying to BOOP upthread, having a fantastic time is so much more important than the calories - nobody ever looked back at their best memories and said "mmm, that was a great weekend but I wish I had drunk tonic water and abstained from the snacks" Grin

QuimReaper · 30/10/2016 13:06

I'm so jealous of anyone who carries extra weight in an hourglass. It sucks being an apple Sad

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/10/2016 13:13

That is very true Quim . And it was a fun weekend . But I do need to reign it in now .

I will weigh tomorrow and then draw a line under October and start afresh .

BitOutOfPractice · 30/10/2016 13:28

That's what I'm doing too how

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2016 06:43

At last. The scales have budged. Lost 2.6lbs. Thank goodness.

That makes my total for October 6lbs lost. Though it only looks like 2 on the bastard heavy-weighing new scales.

So, who's starting the the thread. And what should it be called?

NoFatBer? That's crap isn't it?

OP posts:
Howlongtillbedtime · 31/10/2016 07:03

Morning all . I have put on a scabby pound . No surprise as I have eaten like a fatty .

So that makes 5 pounds off in October which is ok but not what I wanted .I am of course going to spend the whole of November eating like a slim person and losing at least 7 pounds !

Well done Boop you must be delighted ! I am pleased the evil scales are behaving themselves .

I quite like nofatber and I know I can't think of anything else .

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2016 07:06

YY how that's what I'll be doing too. And yes I am aware that the road to hell is paved with good intentions

Happy Halloween by the way Halloween Grin

In its honour we are cooking hairy bikers Transylvanian meatballs tonight, locking the doors, closing the curtains and watching the walking dead

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2016 07:07

And bad luck on the pound. Bloody thing. Where did that come from eh?

OP posts:
Howlongtillbedtime · 31/10/2016 07:29

Happy Halloween to you too Halloween Grin

Sadly I still have to do the whole begging on the street thing with my youngest tonight so am evening of trying to persuade him not to eat his bodyweight in rubbish before bed . ........... losing battle for sure but every year I feel I should at least try .

Enjoy your evening . Sounds a lot better .
The meatballs sound good . I have got the hairy bikers book , not sure I have ever actually cooked anything from there . Might have a nosey before I go shopping after work .

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2016 07:46

I promise you I'm not on commission how but the hairy dieters recipe books are brilliant. They don't feel like diet food at all, good portion sizes and very very reliable recipes. Put them all on your Christmas list. There's 4 of them now and they are all great. I had Szechuan chicken from their latest book last night. Really delicious and 200 cals.

I've just done my monthy measure and I've lost 3cm off my waist and 4cm off my hips hips in October. Not bad!

ponygirlcurtis · 31/10/2016 08:11

Morning - well done on October's losses, nowt for me but next month will be better. Downwards and onwards!
