Don't know if garden chair will take my humungous weight

I 'm going to a party where the garden chairs available state a maximum weight of 17st 4 pounds. I'm 17st 11 sorry to say. Will they collapse under me? Can I lose 7 lbs in 10 days?

How do you know what weight the chair will take?

If you are worried, you could stand up and mingle for the party?

Agree with timeforabrewnow, you will have to decide to stay standing if you are worried, or if you know the venue, is there somewhere else you could sit, eg a low garden wall.
Perhaps you could make a lighthearted comment about thinking the chair won't take your weight.
No one else will take any notice, so don't be worrying and spoiling your day.

Ive seen the chairs and they have labels stating the max weight they will take. Yes I think Ill just have to make that light hearted remark or take my own chair. You're right that nobody woll care. Its not as if they cant see that Im obese.

That's a weirdly precise weight to put on the label. You could take your own chair if you're comfortable to do so, I'd be amazed if the extra few pounds was enough to collapse the chair though!

As you've posted in the weight loss thread topic, I'm wondering if you are wanting to lose weight, or was it just the practical concern about the chair?

to be honest even if you lose the weight, I wouldn't risk it if you're right up against the limit

I am the sort of person that looks anxiously at overcrowded lifts and the weight limit though....

I'm sure the chair won't collapse... But you could easily lose that weight in the time you have...

I lost a stone in a week by using my Fitbit and walking 20,000 steps a day, eating under a thousand calories and only drinking water. (Except for the Friday where I shared a bottle of wine with my friend!)

My BIL broke a chair at christmas precisely because we didn't know our chairs had a limit. It was embarrassing for all concerned not least because they were a day old!

But then he was 2 stone over the limit.

If it was me I would worry about getting in and out of the garden chair elegantly.

dontcrynow, sounds like you're doing really well there.
At next summer's garden parties, you won't need to worry about chairs.

I'd say they err on the side of caution but I still probably wouldn't risk it. I was at a family do last week and we were all sitting out the back on the grass , on garden chairs. I was so self conscious and paranoid because I could feel the metal legs sinking slightly into the wet grass and it just drove home to me how much weight I've piled on in the last year. So I understand how you feel : (. In a way it was a good thing though because it has made me determined not to feel like that again and lose weight.

Just coming back to let you know the chair was fine and very comfortable. I didn't feel at all insecure and noticed lots of other heavy people sitting in similar chairs with no mishaps
