I want to loose weight off the tops of my thighs. Happy with the rest of my body except there.
After having children, they are never the same again (unless your famous and don't eat!!!).
I would just like to loose an inch or two, by the Summer. I practice yoga about 4 times a week, but that is for purely relaxation and tension release.
What leg exercises can I do that would help my large beefy thighs thin down. I can't run as I have inflamed achiles heels but any home exercises you could offer would be brill. What about an exercise bike is that any good?
Thanks

exercise bike, step ups, skipping, what about those cross glider things?

nappyaddict · 22/01/2007 12:20

leg extensions, lunges and squats are also good.

nappyaddict · 22/01/2007 12:21

oh and leg curls.

moosh · 22/01/2007 12:37

Don't the leg exercises bulk up the muscle so legs get bigger? Unless you loose weight too? Just wondering...

if it is saddle bags then you need to focus on toning those muscles - I use a machine at the gym, but Jane Fonda type lower body workouts show you how to target them too.

Low weight lots of reps not to bulk out.

heres a link. cross trainer

leg curls

Thanks for the info. I am a size 12-14 so don't really want to diet, but not sure how to get the tops of my thighs thinner. Believe me, I have quite chunky thighs at the top, so ideally do not want to bulk up just to thin them out slightly at the top.

try to use low weights, more reps....will help tone rather than bulking up that large weights few reps does.....

swimming will help too

nappyaddict · 22/01/2007 13:49

also rowing machines are good for thighs.

ledodgy · 22/01/2007 13:51

Brisk 30-60 minute walks work too.

JustSometimes · 22/01/2007 14:39

Swimming with a float to keep arms infront working the legs is good.
Walking 45 - 50 mins on treadmill

moosh · 22/01/2007 17:31

I do walk but not quick enough at times because I usually have my 3 year old with me, the only time I power walk is when I walk back from the nursery 2 mornings a week after I have dropped him off.
I work at a gym twice a week running my own treatment room doing Massage and it has only just occured to me that I could use their facilities for free hopefully. Because this is the wrong time of the year financially for me to pay to join a fitness centre, I'll ask them tomorrow night if I can use the treadmill e.t.c. without paying anything.
Thanks for all the suggestions hopefully by the Summer I'll have trimmer looking thighs.

swim - lots of back stroke with kicking legs deeply (IYKWIM), ie slower but deeper in the water.

toned my thighs up last year - damn Christmas and all that chocolate, got to start again!

In fact I lost 26" all over + a stone in weight by following Low-GI plan and lots of exercise.

moosh · 22/01/2007 17:41

Well done Kbear, thats what I need to do just to feel healthier. I eat well but only do Yoga to chill out and brisk walk twice a week, I need to exercise because I am beginning to look at people's thighs when I'm out and about and thinking , Why are mine not like that!!!!

pilates did it for me

Take all your measurements before you start and re-measure every week. You will be stunned and the inch-loss keeps you going when the scales don't move much!

I lost 4 inches off my waist in two weeks! I wasn't bloated anymore (gave up white bread etc) and the difference was incredible.

Also lost 2 inches off my thighs in two months - (just looking at my record card).

For the past month I've been off the wagon and again I feel bloated and uncomfortable. Back on it from now on though and stepping up the exercise.

Good luck.
