Lose weight but still drink wine?
6

I am 11 stone and 5 ft 4. BMI 27.
I can cut out anything with a bit of forward planning but my weakness is red wine - 2-3 small glasses per night.
Can I lose weight by cutting out other thing apart from the wine?

It'll be very very hard. That's a lot of calories each night. I'm following a MFP calorie counting diet eating 1200 calories a day to lose a pound a week. If I drank, it would leave me struggling to remain within allowance.

I suppose it depends on what diet you're going to try but it would be so much easier if you knocked the booze on the head.

Buy some of those 18cl little bottles - about 150 cals each. Have one a night, that should be doable even on 1200 cals a day.

I have finally made the move to vodka lemon and ice as I still wanted alcohol but wanted to cut calories and figured summer was the only time I could do this.

Gin and club soda with lime is also good for a low calorie drink. Sadly though, for most of us, you have to weight the joy of wine against the joy of being thin. (I generally choose wine).

I am posting this as someone who has tried to lose weight and still include wine. You possibly can but you will massively cutting out a lot of useful calories. Wine contains nothing at all but alcohol. It is so empty it is not true. So if you cut it out and used the 300 calories (or whatever amount) on wholesome food it would be a lot better for you.

I am now successfully losing weight by cutting out all weekday wine and only having some at the weekends. It is strange but i am not enjoying it as much as i used to and am preferring to have a few gins and slimline as my weekend treat.

Thank you all for your replies. You are all right I know. Will start by cutting out bread and cut down to one very small bottle and wean myself off it gradually. One occasional glass has turned into 2 or 3 every night - partly to cope with other things going on. No use making excuses anymore though - your advice will really help me to get on with it. Come on willpower!
