So, here's where I find myself. I'm 5foot, and weigh about 9 1/2 stone, wearing size 12 clothes. Last night, I was playing around on the bbc website, and tried the bmi calculator thingy. It came back that I have a bmi of 26.2, so therefore I'm overweight.

Panic has started to set in . I hadn't thought of myself as overweight, more rubenesque (sp?), IYSWIM. The situation is complicated by my past history. Between the ages of 13 and 20 I suffered from anorexia, finally beating it aged 21, when I found out I was pregnant. I lost the baby weight from both pregnancies fairly easily, but did have a bit of difficulty not resticting calories too much.

So, now I don't know what to do. I guess I'd appreciate anyone elses opinions- not sure I can trust mine .

I don't entirely trust BMI, to be honest. If you have a large frame, or good musculature, you can end up overweight, without being unhealthy at all.

If you are active, if your eating habits are good, I'd just leave it be.

Activities- hmm. I walk a mile to school and back each day- takes me about 15mins each way. At the weekend we usually go on long family cycles. Last week in Paris we walked 20ish miles a day. So, overall, not much that actually gets me out of breath, thinking about it.

Eating habits are pretty good, but I do like chocolate and red wine....

waist measurement is the "in" thing now

I, also, do not trust BMI. I was lighter but less healthy 3 years ago than I am now, I wore bigger clothes too. Although my BMI is higher now I know I am better being like this.

If you were happy before you looked up your BMI ignore it. My BMI is 26.5 but I KNOW I am healthy and strong and so I don't think it is accurate.

BMI is a very blunt instrument. Waist to height ratio is meant to be a better measure as waist size is supposed to indicate unhealthy patterns of fat storage.

Eat less
Walk more

But....if you are happy, stay as you are.

If you aren't lose some weight.

That's all there is to it.
